Mysterious Faces and Granaries at Ollantaytambo - Cusco, Peru

Two mysterious faces can be seen from the Ollantaytambo fort. These are huge faces which are naturally formed on the mountain opposite to the fort. However, the Incas carved the eyes and some rough features into them to give meaning to them. One of them is Viracocha or Tunupa, the God of creation. Experts don't agree on who the other face represents. Also, you can see plenty of granaries built on the mountains. They were used to store grains (duh) .

Peru Trip | Altitude sickness & Faces of Cusco!
(July 2 - 3, 2015) We finally land in the city of Cusco! Cusco is so much more traditional than the modernized city of Lima. We got to visit the Qorikancha which was the religious temple of the Incas. I also was the lucky winner and experienced altitude sickness for the first time. I never thought I would have to deal with that and boy was that one of the crappiest feelings ever. Haha. I am so glad it only lasted a day instead of 2-3 days! We did more exploring in the historic district of Plaza de Armas and got to try out more peruvian food even though I was keeping it simple since my stomach was still very sensitive from vomiting. One of my favorite parts of the trip was getting to experience Faces of Cusco. They offer several different classes and we chose the Peruvian chocolate making and painted Peruvian pottery. I had a blast doing that! Enjoy the vlog!

What It's Like: The First Day in Cusco, Peru
A sleepy and beautiful town!
Avoid Plaza de Armas for food. I suggest you head on to San Pedro's Market and stuff yourself senseless for less than 10 soles. This is where the locals eat. The food is rustic and satisfying.
The market is also great for buying foodie souvenirs. I bought large, thick bars of pure chocolate for a measly 10 soles. You can't find pure chocolate for that price in the States!

How to Prevent and Treat Altitude Sickness in Peru (From Cusco)
Most people who visit Machu Picchu ( go through the beautiful city of Cusco, which is over 11,000 feet above sea level. Altitude sickness can be an issue in either place so I made this video on how to prevent and treat altitude sickness, with the Cusco Cathedral in the background. I had put off my trip to Peru for years due to the fact that I suffered altitude sickness once before in the U.S. and didn't want to go through that again. However, even though it did hit me in Peru, it was not as nearly as bad as I anticipated, due to the precautions I took.
