Columbia, Missouri
Columbia is a city of 116,906 people in the state of Missouri. Founded in 1820 as the county seat of Boone County and home to the University of Missouri, it is the principal municipality of the Columbia Metropolitan Area, the fourth most populous urban area in Missouri. As a midwestern college town, the city has a reputation for progressive politics, public art, and powerful journalism. The tripartite establishment of Stephens College, University of Missouri, and Columbia College has long made the city a center of education, culture, and athletic competition. These three schools surround Downtown Columbia on the east, south, and north; at the center is the Avenue of the Columns, which connects Francis Quadrangle and Jesse Hall to the Boone County Courthouse and the City Hall. Originally an agricultural town, today the cultivation of the mind is Columbia's chief economic concern. Never a major center of manufacturing, the city also depends on healthcare, insurance, and technology businesses. Several companies—Shelter Insurance, Carfax, and Slackers CDs and Games among them—were founded in the city. Cultural institutions include the State Historical Society of Missouri, the Museum of Art and Archaeology, and the annual True/False Film Festival. The Missouri Tigers, the state's only major athletic program, play football at Faurot Field and basketball at Mizzou Arena as members of the Southeastern Conference.
The city is built upon the forested hills and rolling prairies of Mid-Missouri, near the Missouri River valley, where the Ozark Mountains begin to transform into plains and savanna; limestone forms bluffs and glades while rain carves caves and springs which water the Hinkson, Roche Perche, and Petite Bonne Femme creeks. Surrounding the city, Rock Bridge State Park, Mark Twain National Forest, and Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge form a greenbelt preserving sensitive and rare environments. The first humans were nomadic hunters who entered the area at least twelve-thousand years ago. Later, woodland tribes lived in villages along waterways and built mounds in high places. The Osage and Missouria nations were expelled by the exploration of French traders and the rapid settlement of American pioneers. The latter arrived by the Boone's Lick Trail and hailed from the slave-owning culture of the Upland South, especially Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee, giving Boonslick the name Little Dixie during American Civil War. German, Irish, and other European immigrants soon joined. The modern populace is unusually diverse, over eight percent foreign-born. While White and Black remain the largest ethnicities, Asians are now the third-largest group. Today's Columbians are remarkably highly educated and culturally midwestern, though traces of their Southern past remain. The city has been called the Athens of Missouri or a reference to its classic beauty and educational emphasis, but is more commonly called CoMo.

Abilene, Texas: A great place to work and live!
Hear firsthand from some of our people the advantages to working at WaveCreste and living in Abilene. Learn more about WaveCreste, our career opportunities, and our Rural-Sourced solutions at wavecreste.com
TRANSCRIPT: Abilene, Texas, is a real breath of fresh air. I am a city person by nature and have always lived in the city, but the lack of rush hour traffic, the smaller town intimacy, and the fact that I've come here and they've been really warm, just a warm reception from the people. You get eye contact; it's a lot different than the city.
When I first came to Abilene I was not sure if this is the place I'm meant to be because it looked so geographically different from what I was used to in Miami, but the people, especially my coworkers, they have very much supported me, and they have helped me out in every direction.
We look for people with strong work ethics, with very good team skills with a desire for the team to succeed. I don't want to sound like a coach of some sort, but that's very important to us. We need our teams to succeed for our customers. Our customers very seldom come in and hire an individual. They want to hire a solution, and we can only do that when we all work together.
One of the biggest selling points of this area is the community that it has. We've made some friends here that I don't know if I'd ever want to leave them.
Abilene is so unique in that the business community is so tightly knit. They often know when we bring in new employees, and they ask about them and they ask how can they help with them. And that is such a unique and wonderful environment. It's as if the entire village is helping this company succeed.
For those people who are married with children, it's ideal. For someone younger, it's great because there are college environments. College environments are very influential in this town.
After spending my four and a half years here, I feel at home.

BayAreaTransit-Buses and LightRail Costly and Inefficient
A new university study found that the Bay Area is home to transit systems that are among the most and least cost-efficient in the nation. Robert Cervero, an internationally noted scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, is a co-author of a new study comparing 54 transit districts across the United States. ...On the other hand, the second-to-the-least cost-efficient system is the Silicon Valley's shiny, but largely empty Valley Transportation Authority, also known as VTA.
The trolley line running north to Mountain View called the Tasman North Extension came in at almost $5 per passenger miletraveled, compared with San Francisco's 32 cents for the same thing.
VTA spokeswoman Brandi Childress said her agency is building for the future. Santa Clara County is known for its suburban sprawl,
People need to read between the lines on this report. The bottom line is that public transportation is NOT cost effective unless there is a certain density in the population. So the social engineers in the transportation agencies want to stop sprawl by FORCING future development in high density, stack and pack housing along transit corridors. This is called Transit Oriented Development (TOD) One Bay Area (onebayarea.org), a 25 year plan that combines housing, transportation, and land use is forcing every city in the Bay Area to take it's fair share of all income levels accommodated in Priority Development Areas (PDAs). Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) are promoting this plan which must be approved by Spring 2013. Additionally the Grand Boulevard Initiative ( proposes to take out a lane in each direction along El Camino for high speed busses and put stack and pack housing on each side of the road one quarter mile deep. There are also regional plans to serious restict parking and let's not forget the Vehicle Mileage Traveled Tax. The objective of all this unelected bureaucracy is to make driving expensive so that people are forced out of their cars and are required to live near mass transit.
If you are concerned about this and are interested in learning more or helping to stop this, please sign up for the free email updates at bayarealiberty.org
