Fairfield Moravian Settlement, Manchester, UK
Fairfield Moravian Church and its surrounding settlement was founded in 1785 by Benjamin La Trobe as a centre for evangelistic work in the Manchester area.
In 1785, membership at Fairfield stood at 110 souls. Twenty two men lived in the Single Brethren's House and forty five women in the Single Sisters' House.
The congregation was overseen by an Elders Conference consisting of the Minister and his wife, the Single Brethren's Labourer, the Single Sisters' Labouress, a member of the Married Choir and, later, two elected representatives of the congregation In turn, the Elders appointed a College of Overseers to manage the settlement. This dealt with repair of buildings, maintenance of roads, street lighting and supervision of economic activity.
Economic activities included weaving, baking, and saddlery by the single brethren; an inn (which was closed in 1848 because of drunkenness and reopened as a hostel in 1861) and a farm, laundry and needlework shop by the single sisters. The settlement also maintained and operated its own fire engine. Later activities included brickmaking and cotton carding and spinning.
The Single Brethren's House was not a success financially.
In the eighteenth century, the chapel was called the 'hall'. It was unlit and unheated. Hard benches surrounded a pulpit and communion table in the centre of the north wall. The sisters sat on the east side of the hall, near their House; and the brethren on the west side, next to theirs. When the Married choir came to church, the men sat with the single brethren and the women with the sisters. This practice continued until late in the nineteenth century. On the wall opposite the pulpit, there was a gallery with an organ in it; and a musical choir assembled there to sing the responses in the liturgy.

On the 1st Sunday of the month at 3.15pm A service of Lovefeast & Holy Communion takes place in the Moravian Church.
The Covenant Hymn is sung at the end of this service.
(Tune: Der Sabbath).
We Covenant with hand and heart,
To follow Christ, our, Lord,
With world and sin and self to part,
And obey his word:
To love each other heartily,
In truth and sincerity,
And under cross, reproach and shame,
To Glorify his name.
(1792 - S.T.Benade)
My thanks to Rev. Phillip Cooper and Glyn Jones (organist) for allowing the recording of this music in Fairfield Moravian Church.

A Day Out In Droylsden by Roy West
Greater Manchester Police never took into consideration, that I could not have been in two places at the same time. surprisingly all these so called incidents of harassment were taking place when I was somewhere else, but this did not matter to GMP because they were acting politically to have me constantly arrested and taken away from my family.

Welcome to our school
Welcome to Droylsden Academy. Droylsden Academy is not just a school for students; it is a school for the community. As students, we have access to the latest modern technology that not only helps us with our learning, but gives us the opportunity to have experiences that not many other students across the country have, such as latest Apple Mac computers, a professional photography studio and facilities across performing arts which supports us to produce spectacular musicals and productions such as our recent success in Hairspray the musical. We not only have a completely unique building, but also have the opportunity to visit countries abroad and experience different cultures while at the same time receiving help with subjects - for example a physics trip to CERN in Switzerland and MFL trip to France.
