China’s Wanda to Become World’s Largest Tourism Operator in Five Years: Wanda Chairman
Wanda Group’s goal is to become the No. 1 tourism company in the world in five years, said Wanda chairman Wang Jianlin in the opening ceremony of another amusement park in the eastern city of Hefei on Sept. 24.
The amusement park is part of 5.2 billion U.S. dollar Hefei Wanda City, which includes a theme park, hotels and shopping malls.
On its opening day, the park drew 500,000 tourists. Many of them were thrilled by the world’s fastest and highest vertical ring roller coaster.
It is so thrilling that I think it could be the ultimate version. Ordinary people could hardly handle it, said a tourist.
It is so exciting up there that I felt like flying up at the end, said a boy.
It is not the first tourism complex opened by Wanda this year. It followed Nanchang Wanda City, which opened three months ago and attracted more than two million tourists in a month.
In contrast, it took Shanghai Disney Resort more than a month to see its tourist number surpass one million.
Wang said Wanda planned to open 15 such Wanda Cities at home and five more abroad by the end of 2020.
Some said it could a besiege to the Disney resort in China, since Wang openly said Shanghai Disney could not be profitable for ten to 20 years in China in rivalry with Wanda.
The programs that have opened have their local characteristics. The Xishuangbannan park features the distinctive Dai style and the parks in Jiangxi and Anhui had their local inks. When Harbin park opens, it will present an ice and snow culture. That’s our advantage. Tourism will be Wanda’s pillar industry and our goal is to become the world’s No. 1 tourism company in five years, with the projected tourist flow reaching 200 million, said Wang.
There will be 59 new theme parks in China and its tourist flow is estimated to reach 220 million by 2020, equivalent to that in the United States, according to consultancy firm AECOM.

Discover THE REAL China
If you travel to China and just see the big cities, you are missing out on a big cultural experience. In my opinion, some of China's richest history and culture is best experienced in a small town or village. I spent last week exploring a small prefecture in Fujian province called Yong Chun. While there, I tried my hand at calligraphy, kung fu, the performance art of tea making, and tinkered with some Chinese musical instruments - it was AWESOME. I want to share my time there with you, and encourage you to check out a small village if you ever come to China - you won't regret it!

Wanda Group Takes On Disney With Theme Park
The Wanda Group, China's largest private property developer, opened an entertainment complex on Saturday that it's positioning as a distinctly homegrown rival to Disney. Disney opens its $5.5 billion Shanghai theme park opening next month.
Wanda executives unveiled their $3 billion Wanda City in the southeastern provincial capital of Nanchang to thundering music reminiscent of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. They hailed the center as a representative of Chinese entertainment culture in the face of encroaching foreign influences.
Wanda's massive site includes an $800 million China-themed park filled with twirling porcelain teacup rides and bamboo forests, an indoor shopping mall with cinemas, restaurants, hotels and the world's largest ocean park. Disney is set to open its own resort in Shanghai in June. The park will be the largest Disneyland in the world.
As a leading player in Chinese firms' globalization push, the property group has invested heavily in the film and cinema business and has spoken openly about its nationalistic mission to fend off Disney in the Chinese market and become an entertainment brand recognized around the world.

Tianya Haijiao Park, Sanya, Hainan, China - Part 1
Tianya Haijiao (天涯海角)
Source: Wikipedia
Tianya Haijiao is a popular resort in the southern part of Hainan province, People's Republic of China. It is located 24 kilometres (15 mi) to the west of Sanya's municipal region.
The venue is considered the southernmost point of China's land area despite the fact that Jinmu Cape actually is. It is for this reason that it is a popular sightseeing destination for tourists, as well as the fact that, on clear days, various islets are visible.
In Chinese literature, the cape is mentioned in many famous poems, such as I will follow you to Tian-Ya-Hai-Jiao, which means the couple will never be separated. Therefore, many newlyweds spend part of their honeymoon visiting the place.

A Photo-Diversity Series Documentary
Celebrating and Saving Fireflies and Nocturnal Habitats
Presented and Produced by The Zoological Lighting Institute
Directed by Emily V. Driscoll
Description of the Film, promoted in the Kickstarter Video above!
Fireflies calling, the night smiles.
Night. Not simply the gathering of twinkling lights in constellations above, but the gentle, softly illuminated habitats of our lives, an intimate peace beyond the fears of day. Peoples the world over celebrate firefly nights, with a quiet beauty to quench the solar thirst and stress of the burning day. Rather like a true love or calling ghosts of the past, Hotaru reward the attentive with respite, respect given for respect shown. Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night celebrates fireflies and the nocturnal environments they depend upon. The film features artistic and scientific explorations of fireflies, calling attention to, and begging action upon, the loss of night due to artificial night lighting.
Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night begins and ends in Takachiho at the Amanoiwato-jinja Shinto shrine, set within Ama-no-Iwato cave, storied birthplace of Japan and well spring of the little hotaru; genjii firefly borne in waterfed moss and nurtured to adulthood by the river's bounty. This documentary embraces the story of Rei Ohara, a former conflict photographer who discovered solace and beauty in the little rivers and gentle nights of Kyushu. For 16 years he has traveled in solitude and in darkness to capture the magical insects that inspired his art, experiencing the brilliant gifts of the genjii firefly as never before in photography. Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night enshrines Rei Ohara's experience through the stunning cinematography of Sakuma Fumio, offering a nocturnal experience to viewers that has become far too rare in modern society.
Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night invests hope that this can change, and offers examples of current efforts to do so. The film highlights Fukui citizens, heroically attempting to restore the salve of night, masking ill-conceived streetlights installed along a pristine river with finely crafted housings. Recalling the fireflies banished thereby, such creativity is needed to combat over-hasty developments lacking thought for consequence. The gentle illumination of natural night remains, but requires the dedication of artists, public advocates and scientists to restore.
Assuming leadership to combat luminous degradation, Dr. Nobuaki Ochi of Toyo University, the International Dark Sky Association and The Zoological Lighting Institute, teaches the importance of the night for science, culture and the environment in Japan and the world. Firefly researchers highlight the importance of Dr. Ochi's work t protect the firefly. To better understand and care for the cherished firefly, Dr. Nobuyoshi Ohba built the Ohba Firefly Institute and Biotope in Yokosuka City. Dr. Among a rich 40-year commitment to research, Dr. Ohba explores technical lighting solutions to minimize the effect of development on firefly populations. In America at the University of Florida's pre-eminent Entomology Department, Dr. James Lloyd and Dr. Marc Branham investigate the loss of diversity in firefly populations, hypothesizing the disruption of luminous communication necessary for breeding. Bringing meticulous care in research to a familiar setting, they examine the potential effects of porch lights on fireflies. Using light sensors constructed of ping-pong balls, their research demonstrates that even minimal artificial lighting can have a drastic impact on the subtle interplay of life at night. Dr. Zach Lehmann of the Audubon Nature Institute's Insectarium in New Orleans likewise relates the importance of all insect life, including fireflies, the the environment we all depend upon.
Fireflies create peaceable nights, leaving anxieties behind for a time free of the stress and pressures of contemporary life. Whether in art, science or thoughtful moments of the everyday, people the world over express their appreciation of the firefly. Brilliant Darkness: Hotaru in the Night is a film produced to celebrate the celebrations and encourage conservation of the nocturnal habitats life depends upon. Share with us the vision and experiences of Rei Ohara, the passion of local communities and the care of scientists as we explore the nocturnal world of fireflies together.
