Lake Te Anau's New Launch - MV Faith
A Cue TV Segment on the Arrival of a Classic Wooden Scottish Built
Launch... Nov 2014
Sailing on Lake Te Anau
For a change in pace and a more relaxing adventure in New Zealand we joined four other Aussies for an elegant exploration cruise on the historic sailing ship, Faith. Guided by her passionate Kiwi crew, we soaked up the opportunity to sail across Lake Te Anau, exploring remote areas of the Fiordland National Park. We initially crossed the stunning South Fiord, surrounded by untouched wilderness before disembarking on an isolated island. Here we strolled through absolutely majestic native vegetation to the Hidden Lake, before venturing back to the Faith. After boarding, we were delightfully surprised by being served exquisite canapés and thirst-quenching refreshments on deck before raising the sails to head towards home. The Owner, George, the Master, Lou, and the energetic First Mate were so passionate about the Faith, sailing and Lake Te Anau that you couldn’t help but be totally absorbed in the experience.
【NZ Track】Lake Marian Track in Te Anau, New Zealand
Lake Marian is one of the famous track in Te Anau in South Island New Zealand, which I believe this track should be put in your must-do list when you decide to go to Te Anua. Lake Marian looks stunning differently during four seasons.

Medulla Oblongata
Medulla Oblongata a/k/a Abraham Naim, came to New Zealand first as a high school exchange student and later, after political activism, as an asylum seeker who eventually gained refugee status.
Medulla’s first experience of New Zealand was as an international student to Fiordland College in Te Anau. When he came out as gay to his parents in 2010, he lost his funding to study in New Zealand and had to return to the Maldives. He began organising protests on human rights abuses and the lack of religious freedom. It was dangerous work, one of the leaders of the protests had his throat slashed. Fearing for his safety, Medulla sought asylum. When he won a Wellington drag pageant in 2014, the news was picked up in the Maldive press. The government condemned anyone seeking asylum as a criminal.
“It’s a terrifying thing going to another country and leaving everything you know behind. I was quite lucky because I had friends in New Zealand who offered me a bed and food. That made the transition for me easier. I got off that plane onto that tarmac at 18 years old and I was like, oh my gosh, I am home. That cold breeze slapped me in the face and I was like, wow—I can’t describe it—it’s always just felt right.”
What does he want Kiwis to understand about the refugee experience?
“We are people and we have feelings just like you, and everybody else. We want equal opporunities, to be our most authentic, true self. Sometimes we’re not able to do that, but then, sometimes we are. We just want a chance. Everybody just wants a chance.”
Medulla's stunning portrait by photographer Alistair Guthrie will be featured as part of 'Transplanted: Refugee Portraits of New Zealand' at the Dunedin Community Gallery May 8-18th. Join us for speakers on refugee issues all week. For more information, kindly like and share our programme:
