Deir al-Qamar (Arabic: دير القمر), meaning Monastery of the Moonis a village in south-central Lebanon, five kilometres outside of Beiteddine, consisting of stone houses with red-tiled roofs.
During the 16th to 18th centuries, Deir al-Qamar was the capital and the residence of the governors of Lebanon. It is also notable for its 15th-century Fakhreddine Mosque, Fakhreddine II Palace, and other historical palaces and administrative buildings. The 17th century Deir al-Qamar Synagogue is also in the village, although closed to the public. During its peak, the city was the centre of Lebanese literary tradition. It was the first village in Lebanon to have a municipality in 1864, and it is the birthplace of many well known personalities, such as artists, writers, and politicians. It was the winter capital of the Druze Cancimat of Lebanon (1840-1860), the summer capital being Baakleen.
Deir al-Qamar is a known as the Capital of Emirs. From its palaces, Mount Lebanon was governed from the 16th century until the 18th century. People from all religious backgrounds lived there and the town had a mosque, synagogue and Christian churches.
In the year 1860, Deir al-Qamar was destroyed during the civil war between Druze and Christians during which the town was set ablaze. Napoleon III sent a French contingent to rebuild it, recalling France ancient role as protector of the Christians in the Ottoman Empire as established by a treaty in 1523.
In 1864, Deir el-Qamar elected the first municipality in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire.
A census done by the Ottomans during Qorqmaz bin-Maan's reign, Fakhr-al-Din II's father, counted 156 men in Deir al-Qamar who were all Druze. Today, 85% of Deir al-Qamar's inhabitants are Maronites and 14% are Melkites.

Deir El-Qamar (دير القمر, Deir:le Couvent ,de Qamar:la Lune) est un village du Chouf au Liban, situé à 16 km du littoral méditerranéen, à 900m d'altitude. En arabe, دير القمر, le nom signifie Le couvent de la lune auparavant c'était Dar El Qamar qui signifiait La demeure de la Lune, car c'était un village à majorité druze. Il est situé à coté de la ville de Beiteddine. Aujourd'hui c'est un village majoritairement habité par des chrétiens, un des rare village chrétien intact du chouf à la fin de la guerre du Liban, mais tristement célèbre par le fameux blocus provoqué par les hommes de Walid Joumblatt, lors de la guerre de la montagne.
Deir-el-Qamar fut la capitale du Mont-Liban au début du XVIIe siècle sous le règne de l'émir druze Fakhreddine II, jusqu'à sa mort en 1635.
Ce village conserve un aspect pittoresque remarquable, avec des maisons typiques en pierre. Il est un lieu touristique, et il fait bon se balader dans ses rues. Il a été classé en 1945 comme monument historique.
C'est une des rares communes du Liban à avoir un plan concret d'urbanisme et à s'y tenir.
Camille Chamoun, ancien président du Liban est né dans ce village. Le président Chamoun était régulièrement élu par les voix des druzes modérés représentés par la famille Hamadé. Les cheikhs Akl Druzes (la plus haute autorité spirituelle druze) qui a siégé durant des siècles à Baakline vivaient en harmonie exemplaire avec les habitants de Deir El-Qamar et notamment à l'époque du président Camille Chamoun.
دير القمر هي قرية لبنانية تقع في منطقة الشوف في محافظة جبل لبنان و تبعد عن بيروت كلم. للبلدة مكانة هامة في تاريخ لبنان حيث كانت عاصمة للأمراء الشهابيين. أدرجت سنة 1945 على لائحة التراث العالمي. يشكل المسيحيون و خاصة الموارنة أغلبية سكانها, و قد كانت البلدة من البلدات القلائل التي سلمت من التهجير و التدمير إبان ماسمي بحرب الجبل سنة 1983 بين ميليشيا القوات اللبنانية ذات الأغلبية المسيحية و ميليشيا الحزب التقدمي الاشتراكي ذات الأغلبية الدرزية. من أشهر أعلام البلدة الرئيس اللبناني الأسبق كميل شمعون الذي يرأس نجله دوري بلديتها منذ 1998
