BALOS BEACH CRETE, All You Need To See About Balos Beach
In this video you are going to see the beautiful and famous beach of Balos which is located approximately 56km northwest of Chania and 17km northwest of Kissamos, formed between the Cape Gramvousa and the small Cape Tigani and below the range of Platiskinos. Balos is surely the mostly photographed beach in Crete, a very favorite subject of all tourist guides for Greece. It is no coincidence that Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balos with their private yacht many years ago.

(1) Balos wreck at Chania, Crete of Landing Craft Tank Mk1 (LCT from WW2)
During the battle of Crete, in Greece, at late May 1941 a British Landing Craft was sunk by German planes, probbaly stukas, and is located south of Balos lagoon (by some is confused with Gramvousa, hence I also include this name). According to the locals the LCT was carrying Lee Enfield rifles and had a crew of 5-10 soldiers and sailors. The conditions under which the vessel was sunk are not clear, nevertheless, more southwards next to the archaeological place of Falassarna a similar vesel is located, which was subject of an MA Thesis with a link at the end of this text. Further research needs to be donne, will update the information when available. It is located 10 meters deep around 15 meters away from the rocky shore, in a small cove.
