Cannes France Travel Guide - French Riviera Film Festival & More | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
Where does the most renowned film festival in the world take place? Cannes, France, of course!
If you want to be a part of this glamorous event, you should visit this beautiful French city in mid to late May. That’s the time when thousands of films are screened, and the world biggest celebrities arrive to the town to take a walk down the red carpet.
We also recommend you check out Les Allées des Étoiles (Cannes’ mini version of Hollywood’s famous Walk of Fame), handprints of various film stars in the concrete. You will definitely come across some familiar names, such as Gerard Depardieu, Meryl Streep, and Sylvester Stallone, but also, Akira Kurosawa and David Lynch.
Cannes Walk of Fame begins at the base of the Palais des Festivals near the Tourism Office, wraps around the park and ends on the Croisette so you won’t have any troubles finding it.

Cannes - France, French Riviera - Côte d'Azur, Palais des Festivals in Cannes
Cannes - France, French Riviera - Cannes Côte d'Azur video by Saint-Tropez-Mobilheim infos
umgeben vom roten Esterel Gebirge.

It’s also home to the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, a modern building complete with red carpet and Allée des Étoiles – Cannes’ walk of fame.
Cannes has a Mediterranean climate and the city enjoys 11 hours of sunshine per day during summer (July), while in winter (December to February) the weather is mild. Both seasons see a relatively low rainfall and most rain occurs during October and November, when 110 mm (4.3 in) falls.
Cannes summers are long and warm, with summer daytime temperatures regularly hitting 30 °C (86 °F), while average temperatures are about 25 °C (77 °F). Temperatures remain high from June to September, the busiest time of the year.
Mean temperatures drop below 10 °C (50 °F) for only three months of the year (December to February). The spring and autumn are also warm, although more suited to those who prefer slightly cooler weather.
The Promenade de la Croisette is the waterfront avenue with palm trees. La Croisette is known for picturesque beaches, restaurants, cafés and boutiques. Le Suquet, the old town, provides a good view of La Croisette. The fortified tower and Chapel of St Anne house the Musée de la Castre. A distinctive building in Cannes is the Russian Orthodox church.
The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Provence houses artifacts from prehistoric to present, in an 18th-century mansion. The Musée de la Castre has objects from the Pacific Atolls, Peruvian relics and Mayan pottery. Other venues include the Musée de la Marine, Musée de la Mer, Musée de la Photographie and Musée International de la Parfumerie.

Places to see in ( Cannes - France ) La Croisette
Places to see in ( Cannes - France ) La Croisette
The Promenade de la Croisette (or Boulevard de la Croisette) is a prominent road in Cannes, France. It stretches along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea and is about 2 km long. The Croisette is known for the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, where the Cannes Film Festival (Le Festival International du Film de Cannes) is held. Many expensive shops, restaurants, and hotels (such as the Carlton, Majestic, JW Marriott Cannes, and Martinez) line the road. It goes completely along the coastline of Cannes. The Croisette is listed in the cultural heritage general inventory of France.
The Promenade de la Croisette is the true heart of Cannes. Under the shade of pine and palm trees, this boardwalk stretches for over three kilometres. A great place to soak up the sun and the sea breeze while you check out the best luxury shops and hotels. The Croisette promenade was born in the second half of the 19th century, although its current image owes more to the 1960s when it was renovated. Its name comes from the cross that once stood at the promontory between Cannes and the bay of Golfe-Juan, which attracted many pilgrims.
This wide pedestrianised walkway runs between the sandy beach and the coastal road, on which you'll find all the fancy hotels and posh boutiques. The French love to 'promenade' - you'll find romantic couples taking a stroll after a meal and chic French ladies walking their dogs with their husbands. La Croisette also has play areas for children at either end - a small funfair lies at the Palais des Festival end. You'll find many free events and activities such as music concerts here during the summer months. Plenty of bars and restaurants can be found along both sides - beach clubs on the beach, and swanky eateries on the shopping side.
Its fame comes mostly from the Palais des Festivals, where the Cannes Film Festival is hosted every year with a red carpet that reaches the boulevard. But you cannot leave Cannes without walking the Croisette and enjoying the beautiful views over the sea and Isle Sainte Marguerite. It is the best place to witness how this city came to be one of the luxury capitals of France. The street is dotted with luxury shops such as Chanel or Louis Vuitton, as well as five-star hotels like the Le Canberra Hotel, the Splendid Hotel, the iconic Carlton Hotel or the oldest one, Le Grand Hotel.
Of course, you can just take a seat on the Croisette itself - there are blue metal seats for this purpose, and you can position yourself under the palm tress to enjoy some shade on sunny days. It's fantastic for people watching, and for admiring the sports cars that glide along the boulevard.
This promenade is also the gate to some of Cannes best beaches, both public ones such as Plage Mace or Plage du Casino, and private like the Croisette Beach, or the chic Baoli Beach. The exclusive Pierre Canto Marina, located at the far end of the boardwalk, is where all the A-list stars drop anchor during the Film Festival, while the smaller Port de la Pointe Croisette, a marina for sailing boats, stands at the tip of the boulevard
