SHAWN MENDES - Before They Were Famous
SUBSCRIBE:
BEFORE Shawn Mendes would become the opeing act for Taylor Swift on the North American leg of her 1989 tour.
BEFORE Shawn Mendes would be globally billed as the next Justin Beiber.
BEFORE Justin would coyly say in a radio interview, ‘who is Shawn Mendes?’
BEFORE Shawn had millions of die hard fans on Facebook, Vine, Instagram and Twitter.
Shawn Mendes was a student at Pine Ridge Secondary School in Pickering, Ontario – not yet even in highschool when he blew up. Previous to this he was a regular kid who played ice hockey, soccer and enjoyed long boarding with his pals. In June 2012 Vine was launched and in August Shawn uploaded a clip of himself singing an acoustic version of Bieber’s ‘As Long as You Love Me’ just for the heck of it. When he logged on to his account the next morning, it had 10,000 likes and his follower count had gone through the roof!
Surprisingly a few of you guys did ask for this one – this kid is blowing up! Next video we get back to rap and hip hop, so sit tight and enjoy this one, also be sure to let me know who to document next.
Shawn Mendes was born Aug 8 1998 in Pickering, Ontario Canada, in a town located an hour outside of Downtown Toronto.
He is the son of Karen, a real estate agent, and Manuel Mendes, a businessman, selling bar and restaurant supplies in Toronto. His father is of Portuguese descent and his mother is English.
Shawn got started in music in elementary school where he gave it a go and got a fantastic response from fellow students, so he was motivated to keep pushing forward.
He also got his hands on a guitar and taught himself to play by watching tutorial videos on YouTube. He would also pass the time watching others pour out their souls online singing covers of their favorite artists and he wanted to do the same.
My name is Michael McCrudden documenting the life of Shawn Mendes prior to fame, here for you on Before They Were Famous.

Pickering Family’s Christmas Lights Display Delights Thousands | 1289 Ilona Park Road, Pickering
Christmas Display | One of the best displays in Pickering Ontario! Lights are everywhere!
Have a look and enjoy the video! Merry Christmas!
Tammy Wright starts her Christmas decorating on Thanksgiving.
It’s easier to erect a perimeter fence and hammer swooping arches over a driveway before the ground is frozen. Time is also needed when you’re converting a 6-metre flagpole into a giant conical tree, transforming retaining walls into scenes worthy of the North Pole and festooning a “Merry Christmas” sign to your roof that’s big enough to be read by passengers aboard a descending plane.
It takes Wright four days just to drape her porch with garlands and wreaths. The extension cords, which are stored off-season in seven oversized tote bins, require another two days of logistical snaking. Then there are the glowing lawn creatures and ornaments — stockings, reindeer, polar bears, candy canes, elves, lollipops, stars, gift boxes — that need to be assembled and tricked out with LED lights. This wooden menagerie twinkles around a centrepiece sleigh and is scattered under a dazzling cavalcade of red, green, gold and blue lights that now attracts visitors from as faraway as Russia and Ireland.
Put it this way: the Christmas tree in Rockfeller Center, a hulking Norway spruce that climbs 23 metres into the New York City skyline, is illuminated by 45,000 bulbs. There are nearly twice as many lights outside Wright’s house in Pickering.
This extreme decorating started in 2004 when Wright’s parents, who were living in the United States, sent over two inflatable yard characters — an 8-foot tall Santa and equally big Frosty. Wright and her husband, Chris, placed them in the front yard, mostly to amuse their children, daughter Natalie and twin boys Robert and James.
But within a few hours, Santa and Frosty were creating gridlock in Pickering.
“People started driving by at all hours,” recalls Wright, 40. “My husband said, ‘We’re getting a lot of traffic here just for these silly blow-up things.’ Then he said, ‘Well, let’s try something.’”
Eager to turn the silly blow-up things into a serious throwdown for charity, an empty box with “Community Food Bank” scrawled on the side was dragged to the end of the driveway.
“When we got up in the morning, there was actually quite a bit of food in the box,” says Wright. “We were totally surprised. But from then on, we just kind of went nuts. We just started adding more and more decorations.”
What happened next was the opposite of what social scientists sometimes refer to as broken windows theory. The lavishly decorated home at 1289 Ilona Park Rd. inspired neighbours to get out and adorn their own houses. It became a festive hub, bringing out the best in everyone.
The Wright kids have grown — Natalie is now 22, Robert and James are 13 — and over the years so has the display. The family now stand out in the cold nightly, giving candy canes to strangers. The ceremonial “Light Up” on Dec. 1 attracted more than 300 people. Closer to Christmas, the number of daily visitors will tip past 1,000.
There have been out-of-town light seekers and tour buses. Many neighbourhood kids refuse to go to bed each night until they’ve seen the display. As for the cost of providing this entertainment, Wright’s hydro bill last December went up by about $300 — a relatively small increase due to the energy-efficient LEDs.
As she wryly observes: “I don’t know if I could afford to this incandescently.”
Last year, the Wrights raised $6,500 in cash and 3,500 pounds of non-perishables for the St. Paul’s on-the-hill food bank. This year, the goal is to surpass $10,000.
“There are two joys for me,” says Wright. “The biggest being the amount of food and money that we get for the local food bank. But this is also one of the few things that I’ve come across in life that breaks all barriers — religion, race, colour, anything. Everyone enjoys it.”

Woodbine Beach - A Review
Woodbine Beach was the first location I flew my first Drone in February 2018. Woke up at 5am, got into the Blue Night Bus Line and 40 minute later I was there, alone in the dark, freezing but happy and excited :) That's why I've decided to re-edit this video, in an attempt to boost my memories from that day.

Woodbine Beach - Revisao
Schindler 330A Hydraulic Elevator @ Pickering Town Centre, Pickering ON
This elevator has an epic motor, however the Schindler HT fixtures are in bad condition and I've heard a few tales of this elevator breaking down, but I haven't seen it broken recently. Anyway, notice that a man in the video mentions the other elevator that talks. That elevator is a Kone EcoSpace with KSS 500 fixtures.

Sadly, there are too many boring travel guides for Toronto, that's why I dug deep into this city to find the best hidden spots in the largest city of Canada.
My favorite districts are easily located in close proximity; Chinatown, Kensington Market, the Waterfront and the new Little Tokyo district for its delicious Japanese dishes, treats and first Uniqlo store.
Toronto can be expensive if you don't know what you are doing but luckily there are some FREE things to do as well, like hanging out at the RecRoom, Graffiti alley, Sunnyside Pavilion and FREE beer from the Steam Whistle Brewery or drive out of town for the FREE sites at Cheltenham Badlands and Scarborough Bluffs.
I personally recommend going all out because there are so many awesome things to do, do not cheap out, saving up a few extra months will be worth every penny in the end. A rough budget for 5 awesome days in Toronto for 1-person would be around $400 airbnb/hotel and $600 for transit, shopping, food, events, museums & parties = around $1000.
The first thing you have to remember about Toronto is that distances are a lot further than what you may be used to in Europe or Asia, streets and blocks are very large. Everything is very spread out in this massive metropolitan city so try to at least visit a few new districts every day.
My recommendations for a daily itinerary include Annex, Koreatown, Queen Street, Chinatown, Kensington Market and Entertainment district on day 1. Waterfront, Toronto Islands, Yonge Street & Leslieville on day 2 and the outskirts Caledon (Badlands) & Scarborough (Beach) on day 3.
My favorite way to explore Toronto is by jogging, you'll be surprised as to what you may find. Many of these photos were taken at places I randomly ran into, places you will never see on a guided tour.
After dinner at The Dime (where dishes are $5 each) you'll be energized to explore the massive Toronto nightlife. I recommend nightclubs Rebel, Coda or Uniun for some fist pumping and RecRoom, Belfast Love and Tilt for a few drinks but remember the nightlife in Toronto ends very early, the bar closes at 2:00am thus making the nightlife often feel very rushed since most people party extremely hard between 12am and 2am, definitely a down side of the city.
I would love to know if my YouTube video was helpful and if so, please leave a comment below and let me know which place seems most interesting to you? Or let me know if you want more information about a specific place I mentioned.

In recent news, Drake has been crowned the most streamed artist of the decade on Spotify – but I’m not surprised. He’s a celeb that almost everyone seems to love, along with all of his music. Born Aubrey Drake Graham back in the 80s, Drake is 33 at the time of this recording. The man may be in his 30s but it doesn’t seem like he’s going to settle down anytime soon – looks to me like he’s enjoying his success. When you see Drake’s mansions you’ll really understand.
Drake was in the show biz forever, but through the past decade he’s really reached the height of his fame. I mean ya, he played Jimmy in Degrassi for years but id say hes best known as one of the biggest hip hop artists these days. The 28 billion “streams” he’s compiled over on Spotify confirm it. And of course Drake hails from the Six which everyone knows. Drake is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, business man and more, and on Instagram, at the time of this recording Champagne Papi has 61.9million followers (@champagnepapi). Aside from all the grammy awards, American music awards and other awards, Drake has a number of great successes under his belt. Billboard even named Drake the 16th most successful artist of ALL time, and the rapper founded his own record label OVO Sound in 2012 as well. Aside from music Drake has other business ventures such as his whiskey Virginia Black, and his October’s Very Own or “OVO” clothing shops. Not to mention Drake continues to show pride for his hometown. And Being the dedicated fan of the Toronto Raptors that he is, he was also announced as the team’s “global ambassador” – whatever that is. Drake has his own members-only bar and lounge in the Air Canada Centre where the Raptors play their home games – and it costs 7K a year to be a part of it. Even if you cough up the cash, apparently it’s also invite only or you need to be approved first.

Singer Shawn Mendes biography, Camila Cabello in relationship
Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on 8 August 1998. He is a Canadian singer, songwriter and model. He gained followers in 2013 after posting song covers on the video-sharing application Vine. The following year, he caught the attention of artist manager Andrew Gertler and Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton. It led to him signing a deal with the record label. He has since released three studio albums, headlined three world tours and received several awards.
[Biography from Wikipedia]
[All Photos may not represent the story.]
[Watch to become bilingual as this video is especially made for English learners.]
Shawn released his self-titled debut EP (2014) and his debut studio album Handwritten (2015), whose single Stitches reached number one in the United Kingdom and the top 10 in the United States and Canada. He then released his second studio album Illuminate (2016), whose singles Treat You Better and There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back reached the top 10 in several countries. His self-titled third studio album (2018) was supported by the lead single In My Blood. All three albums debuted atop the US Billboard 200, with the first one making him one of five artists ever to debut at number one before the age of 18, and the third one making him the third-youngest artist to achieve three number one albums. In 2017, he became the first artist to land three number one singles on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. In 2018, he became the first artist to achieve four number one singles on the Adult Pop Songs chart before the age of 20. In 2019, he released the hit singles If I Can't Have You and Señorita with the latter peaking at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.
He has headlined four concert tours: #ShawnsFirstHeadlines, Shawn Mendes World Tour, Illuminate World Tour, and Shawn Mendes: The Tour. Among his accolades, he has won 13 SOCAN awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, eight Juno Awards, eight iHeartRadio MMVAs, two American Music Awards, and received two Grammy Award nominations. In 2018, Time named Mendes as one of the 100 most influential people in the world on their annual list.
Shawn was born in the Toronto suburb of Pickering, Ontario, to Karen (née Rayment), a real estate agent, and Manuel Mendes, a businessman, who sells bar and restaurant supplies in Toronto. His father is Portuguese (from the Algarve), while his mother is from England. He has a younger sister named Aaliyah. He was raised in a religious family.
He was raised in Pickering where he attended Pine Ridge Secondary School. At school, he played ice hockey and soccer, joined his high school glee club, and practised his stage presence in acting lessons (leading as Prince Charming at one point). He also auditioned for Disney Channel in Toronto. He graduated from high school in June 2016.
Shawn learned to play guitar by watching YouTube tutorial videos at the age of 14 in 2012. Less than a year later he started posting cover videos on YouTube. He started attracting viewers after he posted a cover from Justin Bieber As Long as You Love Me on the social video app Vine in 2013 and got 10,000 likes and as many followers the next day. After that he gained millions of views and followers in a few months, becoming well known for his six-second snippets of renditions of many popular songs. By August 2014, he was the third most-followed musician on Vine. Artist manager Andrew Gertler discovered Mendes online in November 2013, bringing him to Island Records in January 2014. In April, he won Ryan Seacrest's Best Cover Song contest with Say Something by A Great Big World. He officially signed to Island in May 2014.
He released his first single Life of the Party on June 26, 2014. He became the youngest to debut in the top 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it to number 24 for the week ending July 12, 2014. Prior to his signing, Shawn toured as a member of the Magcon Tour alongside other young Viners with a large following on social media. He was also on a nationwide tour with Austin Mahone as an opening act. He released his debut major label EP in July. The EP debuted and peaked at number five on Billboard 200, selling 48,000 copies in its first week. He won a Teen Choice award in 2014 for Webstar in Music. On September 5, 2014, Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) featuring Mendes was released as the fifth single from The Vamps' debut album, Meet the Vamps. On November 6, 2014, Something Big was released as the second single.

benjamen harvey pickering raps at mcdonalds
ben pickering has been making me pee my pants for almost a year now. they say laughter is the best medicine, but laughter at this level needs adult undergarments. he had just eaten 8 bucks worth of french fries to fuel this rap. it's been sweet of him to go vegan all of the sudden. this is not an advertisement for animal cruelty but rather, a parody.
while i do not participate in animal liberation front level animal rights activism, i am more peacefully inclined to celebrate my 21st year meatfree by feeding the seagulls, who make me feel so loved and popular. my leo ego needs a lot of love sometimes.
