Trip to China - North Korea - Russia border - Changbai mountains & Heavenly Lake
A trip to China-North Korea-Russia 3 country border scenic area and beautiful mountains of Changbai and Tianqi Heavenly lake. TianChi Lake is 13 km in circumference but cannot be walked around owing to the border with North Korea. The border with North Korea is not clearly marked and there have been arrests by North Korean border guards of foreigners. The terrestrial boundary between Russia and North Korea runs along the fairway of the Tumen River and its estuary, while the maritime boundary separates the two countries' territorial waters in the Sea of Japan. The principal border treaty was signed on April 17, 1985. A separate, trilateral treaty specifies the position of the tripoint of the borders of Russia, North Korea, and China. Because the theoretical tripoint is in the middle of the river, where it would be impractical to install a border monument, the agreement provides instead that the three countries install border monuments on the riverbank, and that the position of the tripoint be determined with respect to those monuments. Covers cities such as Yanji, Hunchun, Fangchuan, Tumen, Rason, Namyang town of North Korea.
