Darwin Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Darwin – Welcome to the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory. This coastal city has lots on offer; check out our video to see the best spots to visit.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Darwin:
Also known as “The Top End,” #Darwin perches on the Timor Sea, giving it striking views of the ocean. Due to its distance from other Australian cities, it is somewhat isolated, leading to a real sense of small-town community despite its status as a large city.
Get a taste of this community during your Darwin #vacation by stopping at the Mindil Beach Markets; on Thursdays and Sundays, you can run into almost half the city as residents turn out to shop at the various vendors and devour local multicultural cuisine.
Get outdoors at Crocadylys Park, which is filled with Darwin’s legendary salt and freshwater crocodiles. The Darwin region is home to over 20 national parks, so you can get a taste of the Australian outback without venturing too far from civilization.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia. Situated on the Timor Sea, Darwin has a population of 120,900, making it by far the largest and most populated city in the sparsely peopled Northern Territory, but the least populous of all Australia's capital cities. It is the smallest and most northerly of the Australian capital cities, and acts as the Top End's regional centre.
Over time Darwin has grown from a pioneer outpost and small port into one of Australia's most modern and multicultural cities. Its proximity to Asia makes it an important Australian gateway to countries such as Indonesia and East Timor. The Stuart Highway begins in Darwin, ending at Port Augusta in South Australia.
The city itself is built on a low bluff overlooking the harbour. Its suburbs spread out over some area, beginning at Lee Point in the north and stretching to Berrimah in the east past Berrimah, the Stuart Highway goes on to Darwin's satellite city, Palmerston, and its suburbs.
The region, like the rest of the Top End, has a tropical climate, with a wet season and a dry season. It receives heavy rainfall during the Wet, and is well-known for its spectacular lightning.
The original inhabitants of the greater Darwin area are the Larrakia people. On 9 September 1839, HMS Beagle sailed into Darwin harbour during its surveying of the area. John Clements Wickham named the region Port Darwin in honour of a former shipmate, famed scientist Charles Darwin.
Having been almost entirely rebuilt twice, once due to Japanese air raids during World War II and again after being devastated by Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the city is one of Australia's most modern capitals.
Kakadu National Park, Kakadu Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Kakadu National Park – Step back in time to a wilderness unspoiled by human occupation. Check out the top spots to explore in this remarkable sanctuary.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Kakadu National Park:
Just three hours away from Darwin, Australia is #KakaduNationalPark. Located deep within the Northern Territory, this stunning portion of the Outback is open year-round and is a popular place to #visit during the dry season.
A Kakadu National Park #vacation isn’t something you can breeze through in just a few hours. The park has more than 25 trails, ranging from easy, daylong hikes to scenic routes that take several days to cover. Kakadu National Park #sightseeing isn’t all about athleticism, the area has long been used as an art gallery by Aboriginals, and some of its cave paintings are 20,000 years old.
If you’re not up to hiking through miles of beautiful territory, then hop on a boat and cruise down the Yellow Water Billabong. Geese, jabiru, and crocodiles make this marshy area their home so keep your cameras ready!
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Around The World By Motorcycle - Episode 13 Australia
Episode 13 of the TeapotOne Around the World by motorcycle series covers Australia, and the many adventures I had therein. This is a re-edit of the original video due to copyright issues with the music I'd previously used.
Arriving in Darwin in the North from East Timor, I ride through the outback and over to the East Coast. After reaching Byron Bay, the most Easterly point on the Ozzy mainland, I cut back West to Adelaide, before following the coast down to Melbourne, via the beautiful Great Ocean Road. After a tour of Phillip Island, and reunion with a long lost mate, I head to Sydney, via the amazing Snowy Mountains and Canberra, before shipping to Chile.
The incredible LIVE Your Life - TeapotOne RTW by sportsbike, is the story of Bruce Smart's epic 74,000 miles, 54 countries in 442 days, solo & unsupported around the world by motorcycle adventure, to keep a promise.
From 1st October 2012 to 14th June 2014, Bruce Smart rode a Suzuki GSX-R1000 74,000 miles around the world, solo and unsupported, through 54 countries to keep a promise he made his mum before she lost her battle with cancer. There were ups, there were downs, highs and lows, but one aspect shone through, the overwhelming friendship and support shown from almost everybody he met around the world.
From Europe to South East Asia, Russia to Australasia, South America to the USA and Canada, almost everybody he met opened their lives and homes to a complete stranger, and the journey grew and grew.
The entire RTW adventure was caught on film, from issues with motorcycle shipping, to the most dangerous road traveled, this travel blog, or travel vlog, is a documentary you just can't miss.

About All 4 Adventure Series 9: Tackling the Territory ►
Jase and Simon return to TEN November 5th in All 4 Adventure: Tackling the Territory. Starting at the southern Queensland border, they set out on an expedition to locate a lost 130-year-old marker along the Northern Territory border. On their way from the Simpson Desert to the Gulf of Carpentaria, they visit the centre of Australia, meet colourful locals, assist in a wild croc relocation, and are taken to rarely-visited sites at Groote Eylandt where stunning Aboriginal artwork sheds new light on the history of the region. There are plenty of challenges on and off the tracks, and the recovery gear is pushed to the limit. With all-new trucks, a new caravan, and a military-grade Unimog for extreme bush bashing, this is a whole new take on the Northern Territory like you’ve never seen before!
MAXTRAX - 4WD Adventure - Darwin Unplugged - Roothy - Roothless Tales
Darwin Unplugged Digital Download -
Anyone who's into their 4wd'ing seriously enough to get adventurous knows that carrying a set of MaxTrax is mandatory. Doesn't matter whether it's mud or sand or even that pea soup gravel that'll put a truck on it's chassis, having MaxTrax on hand is the ultimate 'get the vehicle home' ticket. And often the only way if you're on your own!
I know, I've seen an overloaded 79 worth two hundred times what I paid for Milo - I should say 'cost', not worth, my little mate's worth more than any new fairy conditioned bauble - driven off a remote beach as the tide rushed in thanks to a road of MaxTrax. That time alone they paid for themselves but there's been plenty of times they've just sorted an immediate problem.
This clip, taken from the second of our last DVDs, 'Darwin Unleashed - The Handbrake's Holiday', proves something else fair dinkum off-roaders know about MaxTrax. Because they're made from the same reinforced polymer nylon used in weapons systems they can take weight even when not fully supported. I've seen them bend to the shape of a wheel when I used them to get our old David Brown tractor out of a mud pit on the test track here at home. Wish I'd got a photo of that but hey, like the best MaxTrax moments, a bloke's usually got something else on his mind!
Here we're stopping Penny's 80 Series Toyota from rolling over by using a couple of MaxTrax under the front wheel in a wet ditch stitched over with a few tree roots. More than half the weight of the vehicle's punching these MaxTrax on an uneven surface but they hardly notice it.
There's a lesson here. If you're serious about off road adventure, don't waste your time with the cheap knock off's made from plastic. Pretending doesn't get you far in a country the size of Australia. Make it MaxTrax and make it home. - Roothy.
