Exploring Comb Ridge Utah April 2018
This video summarizes an early April 2018 trip to explore the east side of Comb Ridge along what is called Butler Wash, near Bluff Utah.
Bluff, Utah has a few hotel-motels, RV sites with tent sites, a couple good restaurants, and one place to get gasoline and supplies. Comb Ridge Bistro is excellent for coffee and food.
I chose to stay the first night at Sand Island which is very near the south entrance to Comb Ridge. Sand Island is a semi primitive campsite with a nice host family, dry toilets, potable water, fire rings, a few grills, picnic tables and lots of blow sand. If tent camping prepare for the blow sand. Campground was very quite and cost $15/night.
The sites included in this trip were;
Wolfman Panel and Ruins
Big Crane site
Double Stack Ruins
Procession Panel
Monarch Ruin
Cold Spring Ruin
Split Level Ruin
Fishmouth Cave and Ruin
Butler Wash Road was very well graded and did not have to utilize 4WD. Road was much better than the Coyote Gulch road for comparison. Many free, primitive campsites are available along Butler Wash and I felt very safe in this area primarily due to the lack of people.
ATT Cell phone coverage was good in Bluff, Sand Island but was marginal along Butler Wash. Sometimes up on the Comb itself you could get coverage. Deep in the canyons though, even my Garmin GPS failed to pick up any signal and Gaiagps stopped functioning.
By far my favorite locations were Cold Spring Ruin and Procession Panel. All ruins and petroglyph panels were easy to find and get to, except for Procession Panel. I followed the many Procession Panel cairns but one cairn path routed me to a steep approach so had to back track and choose a less sketchy route. Best to drop into the canyon as soon as you can instead of proceeding higher up on top of the Comb.
I did not see much of any wildlife while there. I did see large cat tracks inside Cold Spring Cave and a few in the drainage areas. I did not see any snakes but a snake track of one inside Cold Spring Cave.
All of the area was very clean and just a few instances of vandalism. The hiker pottery museums are becoming abundant and would like to discourage people from doing this and leave the sites as you found them.
Weather in early April was amazing. I made sure to time the trip based along no rain forecasts. Temperature was in the high 20s one night and during the day it would warm up to the 70s. Very low humidity so hydration important.
Hard to recommend on how many days you will need. I chose 4 days and this was perfect and allowed me to explore some of the river ruins.
In regard to the video, I chose to include many minutes of driving the Butler Wash road. I wish that this had been available to me prior so I could get an idea what condition the road would be in. I also included excessive footage of the Procession Panel. Many people were asking questions about the glyphs and thought this would give people an idea of the procession characters.

Old Ephraim's Grave 4WD Road - Logan, Utah
For the full trail guide please visit:
The life of a grizzly bear is celebrated among this trail as it runs to the grave of Old Ephraim, the last known grizzly bear in the state of Utah. Along this scenic drive through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache national forest situated near Logan, Utah, you will wind your way through aspen groves, towering pines, and across open valleys. This off-road trail is a great way to escape the heat of the city during the few months of the year that it is open. Due to its elevation and location deep in the mountains, it is only accessible about 6 months out of the year. Camping and hunting are very popular along this trail so you are likely to not be alone. Although this may seem like an easy trail, there is much to see and do in the area so you can plan anything from a day trip to a multi-day adventure within this large network of trails, combining it with routes such as FSR 007, Millville Canyon and Logan Peak, or you can jump over to Bear Lake Summit Trail or Temple Canyon and spend some time down at Bear Lake.

Hole In The Rock Road, Utah - Escalante to Lake Powell
Like Drivelapse? Friend it!
Ready to spend an entire day in one of the most remote corners of the USA? Take a drive down Hole In The Rock Road and end up 56 miles from the nearest pavement. Hole In The Rock Road cuts into the heart of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, to a dead-end, high above Lake Powell, a.k.a. the Colorado River.
That dead-end was a major obstacle for early Mormon settlers. They needed to cross the river, in order to settle the land on the opposite side. The only way down to the river was to build an almost-vertical road, by blasting away rock in a narrow slot in the cliff, then lowering their wagons down by rope.
Nowadays, it's impossible to imagine that their mission was successful. It's quite a feat just to make it to the end of the road in a regular vehicle (though it can be done without 4-wheel-drive). The rewards for driving this road are immense -- you get to see an other-worldly corner of Utah, and experience overwhelming solitude.

Lindsey 4WD Road near Hector, Arkansas
If you are into floating, whether it be in a canoe, a kayak, or a tube, the Ozark Mountains are the place for you to be. This trail ends near the Illinois Bayou in the Ozark National Forest, and there are several places along Highway 27, on the west end of the trail, to begin your day on the water, or end your day after a drive in the beautiful Ozark National Forest. In addition to the Illinois Bayou, it's just a short drive from this trail to Big Piney Creek or the Buffalo National River.
An easy drive along a relatively smooth forest service road, the highlight of Lindsey Road is the ford at East Fork Illinois Bayou near the west end of the trail. There are several intersecting trails along Lindsey Road so feel free to explore the area. Be sure to consult the Big Piney Ranger District Motor Vehicle Use Map before heading out. Just south of the trails west end is the USFS Bayou Bluff Recreation Area on IIlinois Bayou. This USFS campground/recreation area was constructed by the WPA in the 1930's and features some native stone masonry shelters located on the west bank of Illinois Bayou. The campground also has a pavilion that can be rented for group gatherings and potable water and vault/pit toilets are available. The recreation area is closed from the 3rd weekend in December to the 3rd weekend in March each year.
This area is popular with canoeists, kayakers, tubers and other outdoor enthusiasts. You can put into the stream with your boat or tube at Bayou Bluff, and take out a short distance downstream near a highway bridge over the Middle Fork Illinois Bayou.

Ep. 95: Green River Kayak Camping | Utah kayaking Canyonlands National Park
A voyage down the final 100 miles of the Green River by kayak, canoe or raft, through the Labyrinth Canyon and Stillwater Canyon into Utah's Canyonlands National Park, is an epic bucket list camping trip. It's also the only way to see this part of Canyonlands. We spend eight days on the river, encountering other river travelers from four other states and two other countries along the way. We find remnants of ancient people dating from 200 to 1,200 years old, including the Outlaw Cabin and Anasazi cliff dwellings. We descend through numerous layers of the earth’s crust, passing through two seasons. Throughout it all, though, the river is our constant, yet moody companion; at times our lover and best friend, and at other times our worst enemy, the river is alive -- a living, breathing creature that dominates our lives for days on end.
FOR MORE INFORMATION
Separate river permits are required from the BLM for Labyrinth Canyon, and from Canyonlands National Park for Stillwater Canyon. The Labyrinth Canyon permit requires little more than filling out a form and carrying the required gear, while the permit for Stillwater Canyon requires a bit more arduous and bureaucratic process and while there’s no lottery involved, permits are limited by the number of people who can be shuttled by outfitters from The Confluence or Spanish Bottom. Ruby Ranch’s owners also charge a fee for those who choose to launch their boats there, although there are alternative put-ins at Crystal Geyser and in the town of Green River.
Applications and more information may be found at:
* BLM Labyrinth Canyon
* Canyonlands National Park river permits
Two outfitters are permitted to provide shuttle services from Spanish Bottom to Moab and also provide guided expeditions:
* Tag-A-Long Expeditions
* Tex’s Riverways

SUMMARY
=======
Utah ( YOO-taw, -tah listen) is a state in the western United States. It became the 45th state admitted to the U.S. on January 4, 1896. Utah is the 13th-largest by area, 31st-most-populous, and 10th-least-densely populated of the 50 United States. Utah has a population of more than 3 million according to the Census estimate for July 1, 2016. Urban development is mostly concentrated in two areas: the Wasatch Front in the north-central part of the state, which contains approximately 2.5 million people; and Washington County in Southern Utah, with over 160,000 residents. Utah is bordered by Colorado to the east, Wyoming to the northeast, Idaho to the north, Arizona to the south, and Nevada to the west. It also touches a corner of New Mexico in the southeast.
Approximately 62% of Utahns are reported to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), making Utah the only state with a majority population belonging to a single church. This greatly influences Utahn culture and daily life. The LDS Church's world headquarters is located in Salt Lake City.The state is a center of transportation, education, information technology and research, government services, mining, and a major tourist destination for outdoor recreation. In 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that Utah had the second fastest-growing population of any state. St. George was the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States from 2000 to 2005. Utah also has the 14th highest median average income and the least income inequality of any U.S. state. A 2012 Gallup national survey found Utah overall to be the best state to live in based on 13 forward-looking measurements including various economic, lifestyle, and health-related outlook metrics.

Report # 16580 (Class Alpha)
STATE: Arizona
COUNTY: Apache County
LOCATION DETAILS: Coming down off a slight rise. The sides of the road were low, you would have to climb up onto the highway. There were lots of junipers about 10 to 15 tall on both sides of the road. I failed to get a road marker. It happened so fast and I was so unprepared.
NEAREST TOWN: About 6 miles from Concho, AZ
NEAREST ROAD: The main highway between Sow Low and Concho
OBSERVED: My name is Dr. XXXXXXXXXXX I'm a chiropractor. One afternoon a few weeks back, I was on my way from Show Low, AZ to a ranch past Concho, AZ to work with a horse. I'm certified in animal skeletal adjusting (chiropractic for animals.) Between the Y in the highway and Concho, about 6 miles outside of Concho, at about 2:30 PM, on a clear, sunny day (Oct. 26, 2006), I saw something come up onto the road about a half mile in front of me. At first, I thought it might be a very large dog as it initially was coming up onto the road, but as it fully entered the highway, I could see that it stood straight up, to a height about as tall as a road sign, maybe 6 or 7 feet? It had long, dark brown hair from top to bottom and stood absolutely straight up, no slouch, no forward bending at all. It ran across the road from my right toward my left and remained fully standing as it ran off into the brush. The full incident took maybe 10 seconds.
The area I live in is plentiful with big animals - elk, deer, bear, big cats. Many of my patients come to see me for injuries after auto encounters with these big animals. I've had some very close calls myself. During the 12 1/2 years I've lived here I've seen several animals I had never seen in the wild before. Each one, including a coaty mundi, were immediately recognizable. My far vision is incredibly good. It is my habit to drive hypervigilant for animals here.
I'm quite familiar with bear movements since they are pretty well a nuisance to locals and spotted often here. It's the only other local animal that could have possibly fit the description as far as fur, color and standing height. However, bear do not stand straight up to run across a road. In fact, they don't stand straight up. When they stand, they sort of hunch and hang their front paws. This did no such thing.
Bigfoot
So I've heard many different stories about how bigfoot can be real or be fake... I personally think if these sightings were going down for a very long time now...It will be hard to get a clan of wanna be sasquatch to dress up and hide/live out in the forests and caves of nearby mountains to create a more than a several decade hoax...unless evolution took place and really started to breed these types I can't say. This video explains some samples and verbal evidence that might change your mind in the way you think on bigfoot. I personally had a similar encounter in the state of az. I and my dad traveled up north to chill in the little snow we had during the winter. There is a cabin that my dads half brother owns and behind is a few acres of uncharted forest near the rim. We decided to hike up it and found some fresh droppings of some sort of animal but not too far. There was a giant footprint embedded into the snow and I have a picture somewhere I left 1000miles away. It looked like a big human foot.. that day I felt someone or something was watching we both got creeped out after we seen a bear like creature hide & ducked behind trees and shrubs...Still to this day I can't say what it was or what made that footprint...it surely cut our expedition short.. I can believe there is a form of human like bear such as bigfoot and yetis hiding away in the forests or the cold tundra. Thanks for Watching!
