harrow 2013
Harrow Ontario our fourth stop of the summer and second stop of the weekend . saw cowboys criss crossing the province trying to hit all they could . while the show times did manage to dodge the rain it was a soggy time for some. the cowboys that could stay healthy to compete gave it hell . my hats off to the young bucks who threw their names in the hat to compete for the big bucks with the big boys.
ATB 43 New England Farm Traditions
For many, trying to farm the rocky New England landscape is a hard thing. But to the tough New England farmer, he see's richness, vitality and profits. Join us as we look at these tried and true New England farming traditions. Why was a team of oxen an important family asset? What the heck is a stone boat? The New England farmer was a real optimist, working the soil to grow corn, beans and grain. Besides a good dose of patience, it also requires sound traditions; traditions of hard work, family get-togethers, story-telling and a tradition of caring for your animals and your neighbors.

Gravel Rascal - ATV Driveway Grader & Landscape Rake
WEBSITE: | PHONE: 877.788.7253
A TRUE UTILITY TOOL FOR PROPERTY OWNERS, the Gravel Rascal combines loosening teeth, a landscaping rake, soil pulverizer and rear grading blade into one patented ATV & UTV drag. Like it's bigger 3-point-tractor brother, the TR3®, the Gravel Rascal is a complete one-tool-does-it-all solution for maintaining property. With the Rascal's patented wheel-lift system, the operator is in complete control. The manual jack (or optional electric actuator) adjusts the wheel height, sets the maximum depth of penetration, allows the user easy access to swap between Profile Blades and scarifiers, and makes transportation a breeze! During use the loosening teeth breakup hardpan material and the rear adjustable rake goes to work pulverizing clods and raking material to a level finish. For larger Cut & Fill grading and renovation work, the back manual jack pivots the rake up to 90°—into a perfect grading position! For further versatility, add the optional electric actuator and the Gravel Rascal's pivoting finish rake can easily spread fresh gravel, fill in washouts, collect rocks and pull debris into piles! The Gravel Rascal excels at driveway and parking lot maintenance and is capable of breaking up hardpan, removing potholes from driveways, and even repairing large-scale washouts! With the Gravel Rascal's aggressive adjustable loosening teeth, heavy unit weight and the optional weight rack, this tool can bite through nearly any tough job! NO OTHER ATV TOOL MAKES QUICKER WORK OF DRIVEWAYS, POTHOLES, WASHOUTS, & MORE! Commerical-quality construction excels when other tools fail.

There was a little complaint with my last driveway repair video. I believe I have fixed it.
I had to cut out a lot to try and keep this short, but I think you can get the general point.
In the first video, I talked a lot about my new tractor and what my troubles were and how I fixed them, but I never showed how I used the tractor and the implements/attachments to fix the 600 feet worth of driveway.
So, in turn, this video has exactly no talking. Instead I show you the Kubota Tractor and King Kutter Box Blade in action, ripping, tearing, leveling and ditch digging. Action. Pure Action.
Here is basically what I did:
Lowered the ripping tines all the way and tightened the top link all the way so that, when lowered, the front end (the tines) of the box blade ripped into the dirt and rocks without gathering any material in the box.
I made a few passes like that so that the surface was well broken.
Then I raised the tines all the way and slightly loosened the top link so that, when lowered, the box blade would hit the surface but the tines would not.
I then used this setup to scrape off high points of the driveway and fill in the low points. I made several passes at two different heights (On my tractor, in this case, a 1 and then a 2).
Then I adjusted a side link so that the bucket was tilted as much as I could make it and dropped the tine on that low side all the way down for some ripping power. I then scraped the lower edge into the dirt where I wanted water to runoff. It is my hope that these little ditches will help slow down future erosion of the road.
To make them, I put the implement height at a 0 and drive along the edge of the road. I then repeated the process 3-4 times, getting slightly deeper each time. I also would move away from the digging side of the tractor about 1 tire width each time.
I hope you enjoy it :-)

How to Make a Sculpture (or Anything Else) Spin in the Wind - Kevin Caron
From - Artist Kevin Caron answers viewers' questions about how to make a sculpture - or anything else - spin in the wind. We first find him playing with Genome Project, one of his sculptures. Then he takes us inside his studio and shows a stand like the one Genome Project sits on. It's actually a used harrow disk from a farm implement. Caron fillled in the hole on the top of the disk by welding some metal stock in the opening, then drilled a hole in it to match the size of the sculpture's shaft. Because this particular disk was pretty worn down, Caron didn't have enough room beneath it to put the mount and two bearings that allows the sculpture to spin. So he added a lift kit of a 1/2 piece of square tubing that he shaped in his Chinese pipe bender (also called a stock bender) then welded it into place on the bottom rim of the disk. Inside the disk, he takes a piece of C-channel - which offers enough support to hold up the sculpture - and welds it inside the disk, aligned with the hole. Then he shows the bearings he is using. They are small flanges with bearings in the middle. They have a grease fitting that allows you to grease it every six months or year to keep the sculpture spinning. He chose this particular type of bearing because the hole matches the size of the 3/4 shaft of the sculpture that will sit on top of it. He used two bearings because they are made to mount sideways, with the weight on the vertical axis. When you mount them horizontally, or flat, and put the load above the bearing, there is some freeplay, or wobble, that can be pronounced in a tall sculpture. Depending upon the height of the sculpture, an 1/8 of an inch wobble at the bearing can translate to a variance of 6 - 8 at the top of a sculpture, allowing it to sway. He mounts one bearing on top of the C-channel and the other on the bottom, so they cancel each other's slop, or run out. The sculpture can still spin freely but without the freeplay, or wobble. Caron got the bearings at a local supplier of industrial bearings called Motion Industries. You can also find the bearings at Grainger and online. Caron paid about $35 each for these 3/4, 2-bolt flange bearings, which are rated to a very high weight rating for his needs. See more how-to videos at

Kila Raipur Festival or Rural Olympics is a very popular annual sports meet. An interesting part of the event is that all participants are given enough time to show off their ability. This sports event is so exciting whether it is a tractor race or dog race, it is special for all. Much of the allure of the Rural Olympics lies in the traditional forms of contest and in the ability to compete in events where no specific skills are required. This particular event involves many people who go through a circular set of rods and test their strengths over the other.
According to the Rural Olympics website:
It was in 1933. Philanthropist Inder Singh Grewal visualised an annual recreational meet where farmers from areas surrounding Kila Raipur could get together and test their corporal endurance. The idea gave birth to Kila Raipur Sports, the undisputed Rural Olympics.
In over six decades the festival has grown from a toddler to a prancing, energetic youthful organisation. This pioneer rural sports festival has become an annual international event, which is normally held in the first weekend of February. A dynamic team of organisers -- Grewal Sports Association -- has taken yet again another pioneering step of giving rural women a break in sports.
Today this festival of the rustics attracts more than 4,000 sportsmen and women, both of recognised and traditional sports. The three-day festival is witnessed by more than a million people. Besides, several million others watch it on television, read about it in newspapers and magazines.
Whether you are in Punjab or in Toronto or in Southall, you will know the latest about Kila Raipur Sports. Its participants come from all over the globe. Since it takes several months for the immigrants in England, Canada or the USA to select, train and send their Kabbadi and Tug of War teams to this festival which of late has become a truly international, talks about destination KILA RAIPUR start much early.
When Mr. Inder Singh Grewal and subsequently Grewal Sports Association visualised the Games, the solitary aim was, healthy mind in a healthy body, the watchword has been excellence, in accordance with the Olympic motto of CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS. Besides, it was to provide a platform where boys and girls, men and even veterans could come and exhibit their acumen not only in recognised sporting events but also in traditional rural sports.
So it has been always the best. Those who have been watching this festival grow from year to year can vouch that they have seen hundreds of Olympians and internationals in action on the bald but even playfields of perhaps the biggest Rural Sports Stadium in the country.
For the Grewal Sports Association, it is not only the annual Rural Olympics but also sports promotion which gets its paramount attention. The Association sponsors and runs a hockey academy for schoolboys. At present 150 budding hockey stars are training at the Academy on a regular basis -- 125 of them are day boarders and 25 are boarders.
The Association plans to extend the stadium further, construct a new modern hostel for the Academy, start another academy in track and field and lay a synthetic surface for hockey. Kila Raipur and surrounding villages have made a matchless contribution to the national mainstream of sports in almost all major recognised sports.
These activities apart, Grewal Sports Association enjoy the proud privilege of being the pioneer of organised Rural Sports in the country. It is perhaps the only meet which attracts sponsors from multinational companies and where prize money attracts the best of sportsmen and women. The organisers are none other than dedicated, qualified and reputed men who have spent their youthful days on playfields of the village. No other rural sports meet can even come near the Kila Raipur sports, either in organisation or in size. It remains the biggest and the most prestigious one of its type.

Handmade bike 1+1 Furrow Plow
Perfect for small gardens! Durable and easy 2 work with...
Big Bud with 21 bottom plow
Big Bud 525/50 pulling a 21 bottom plow. This was taken at the Alvordton, OH Plow Day on 8-8-15.
To try and answer some of the questions in the comments, a plow day is where people bring antique tractors and plows and plow a field for fun and nostalgia. (Click here to see the antiques ) This tractor and plow were there for people to look at and see in action. It's not really used for actual production as plows are mostly obsolete at least in this part of the country. I've been told this plow and tractor originally came from North Dakota where it would be more practical.
The video was filmed with a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced.
See this video for a ground view of the plow.
