Xi'an Terracotta Warriors Museum - Trip to China part 20 - Travel video HD
The Terracotta Army or the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210--209 BC and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from around the late third century BC, were discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province. The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits near by Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.

Xi'an Painting Workshop - Trip to China part 23 - Travel video HD
One fantastic and very special type of souvenir from Xi'an is a local folk painting. The local folk painters have borrowed the line drawing techniques of traditional Chinese brush painting and drawn inspiration from cultural and historical figures, animals, flowers and birds. Many of the paintings come from Huxian County (20 kilometers from Xi'an) where farmers have made a career of producing them.

Exclusive: Dvorchaks hosted Xi Jinping in 1985
Several decades ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping himself had a taste of American hospitality in the Midwest when he first visited as a provincial official. With Iowa becoming an important link in developing China-US ties, Xi has kept the state close to his heart, with more than 30 years of friendship with a family there who took him in as a guest. There are no others who would remember that visit better than the Dvorchaks. Gary Dvorchak’s parents, Tom and Eleanor, were the ones who hosted the young Chinese official back in 1985. In a World Insight exclusive interview, Gary reveals that the Chinese president even stayed in his room then, when he was living in school.

Chinese firm acquires Australia’s largest dairy company
The Australian government has approved the sale of Van Diemen’s Land Company, Australia’s largest dairy operation, to Chinese businessman Lu Xianfeng. The sale, which is expected to be finalized later this year, is worth about 200 million US dollars. In return, Lu will get an operation with more than 19,000 milking cows over 25 dairy farms. But one politician has raised concerns that the sale to a foreign investor could impact food security in Australia.

Millions Of Chinese People Still Living In Caves In The 21st Century HD 2014
Millions Of Chinese People Still Living In Caves In The 21St Century Hd 2014
Cave dwelling is known to be a thing of the past especially in the 21st modern China. Xi Jinping, the current paramount leader of China once lived in a cave too. Those who have moved out of the caves to live in the cities would love to retire there later on in their lives.
Most of these Chinese caves have been passed on from generation to generation. They have been modernized to have electricity, plumbing, water, phone services, etc. depending on one’s financial status. Building materials required are few since they are built on existing landscape. The hills they are dug into provide all year round natural insulation and are more energy-efficient. The caves favor farmers who get more arable land to plant their crops.
Shaanxi province is home to most of the caves in China since it’s endowed with porous soil which makes it easy to dig. The caves feature a semicircular entrance covered with quilts or rice paper that leads to a vaulted long room dug into the side of the mountain. The walls are covered with decorations like photographs of movie stars or famous people torn out of magazines. Some of the caves have been reinforced with brick masonry and protrude from the mountains. A family can have different chambers by connecting the caves laterally. Some of the beautiful caves are spacious with high ceilings and a nice yard for exercises and basking in the sun out front.
