This was our second weekend being back in the states.
We hiked Fatman's Loop Trail close to the mall. Our cabin Airnbnb was located in Kachina Village.
Ep. #118 Fatmans Loop Mount Elden, Flagstaff AZ
For the most part, the Fatmans Loop is an easy walk, although it does have a few short, steep sections to the Fatman's Gap.
Scenic overlooks of Flagstaff, the city's eastern suburbs and the surrounding countryside, make this a good place for a stroll when you have time to stop and enjoy the view.
Along the route there are a number of interesting rock formations that bear witness to Mt. Elden's volcanic origins.
The area through which this trail leads supports a diverse community of plant species, including upland trees such as white fir and ponderosa pine. Shrubs and smaller trees more usually associated with lower altitudes are also present.
The trail begins at the Elden Lookout Trailhead parking lot. Start out on the main trail and at about 0.15 miles you will reach a fork. Take the right side trail to Fatman's Loop passing through a fence and following the base of the mountain.
At 0.4 miles, you will see a sign for Fatman's loop and Elden Lookout, go left. At mile 1.5 you will reach another fork right side leads up to Mt Elden. Take the left fork and it is all down hill from here.
You will encounter huge rocks and the trail whinds through gaps between these rocks. One such gap is about 4 feet wide, thus giving the trail its name; Fatman's Loop.

Hiking Mount Elden Lookout Trail in Flagstaff, Arizona
A great hike in Flagstaff. Not quite as far as Humphrey's Peak, but it's still a pretty intense climb. 2.5 miles up and 2000 ft of elevation gain.

Tenny's hiked up Humphrey's on her own 2 feet at 4 1/2. Tru is very much the baby and we were shocked by how much he did! Having a bunch of siblings ready to play games and help you over the ice has to help.

Camera Crusades; The Adventure Continues... I want to start by saying this was a really enjoyable hiking trail. The weather, time of year and other factors made this a great day in the outdoors. The Trail-head is located south of Flagstaff near Lower Lake Mary. Arriving at the parking area the pine trees are everywhere and off in the distance is Sandy’s Canyon. Backpack is ready and bottles filled with water, time to hit the trail and enjoy another photography adventure.
