Southern Africa Family Trip vlog 2019: Victoria Falls, South Africa, Cape Town, Kruger National Park
In August 2019, we took an amazing family trip to South Africa and Zimbabwe. Our journey began in Victoria Falls, where we swam in Devil's Pool and made day trips into Zambia and to Chobe National Park in Botswana. Then, we flew down to Cape Town. We visited Table Mountain, Langa Township, and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, before taking a day trip out to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope. We spent 2 nights in Simonstown, and loved visiting the friendly penguins at Boulders Beach! Finally, we flew to Johannesburg, drove the gorgeous Panorama Route to Kruger National Park, and spent 5 nights on safari, splitting our time between Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge and Hamilton's Tented Camp on the Mluwati Concession.
We saw incredible wildlife and stunning landscapes, and met some of the friendliest people! Africa definitely has our hearts, and we hope to one day be back.

Lion Walk at Lion & Safari Park, Johannesburg, South Africa
The oldest lions I've been able to interact with during my 2 weeks volunteership at the LIon & Safari Park were 12 months old Noah and Leila. Unsurprisingly, the Lion Walk I did with these two beautiful, strong white lions was definitely one of the coolest things I've ever did in my life. It's a very special feeling, being one with these big cats with no fence in between and just the help of a guide and a bucket full of meat!

Sun City, Valley of Waves - South Africa Travel Channel
The Valley of Waves is part of the Sun City resort in South Africa. An artificial sandy beach conveys the feeling of being at the sea. A powerful wave machine keeps the water constantly moving and creates artificial breakers.
Different water slides, a gentle flowing channel and a wonderful flora and fauna world make your stay unforgettable. A pool with a half dilapidated column-gallery as well as an amphitheater are parts of the Lost City and complement the resort.

Welcome to Cape Town! I consider this to be one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. For the next couple of days, I am going to be exploring the city, it’s surroundings and showing you the must dos!
First stop is Downtown Cape Town. This is Greenmarket square the biggest and first market in Cape Town. Here you can find all types of souvenirs. What I am looking for today are elephant hair bracelets.
Greenmarket square is an authentic African market where artist and traders come to sell their arts, fabrics, sculptures and bead work.
Next we head to the artsy district of Woodstock. Throughout the district you can see street art everywhere!
Now for the most iconic site in Cape Town. We made it to the top of Table Mountain the iconic landmark of Cape Town. It’s a flat top mountain and there are two ways to get to the top.
Table Mountain has been proclaimed one of the new seven natural wonders of the world! And they say from up here you get one of the most epic views in Africa.
Table Mountain is considered to be of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders. It is also South Africa’s most photographed attraction. If you’re feeling adventurous, it’s even possible to rappel down the mountain.
Over 800,000 people visit the mountain each year! If you’re planning a visit, remember that the mountain is sometimes overcast, so if you arrive on a clear day, take the opportunity!
An interesting fact about Table Mountain is that it dates back 600,000,000 years making it one of the oldest mountains in the world! Now lets go down to the next mountain.
Lions Head is a 2,200 foot mountain in between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. It takes around 90 minutes and they say the views from up there are incredible, now lets start our hike!
Like I said, there is only one way up and its by hiking so remember to wear sneakers and bring lots of water! From the top of Lions Head you will get some of the best views in Cape Town. Remember to take pictures of people sitting on the edges of the rock!
We are here with Cape Town Helicopters and we are about to take a 15 minute ride at 2500 ft! Now lets hit the sky for an even better view. Cape Town is known for its dramatic coastline and there’s is no better way to see it than from the sky!
If you’re looking for an epic sunset, then I recommend you head to Bakoven beach. This was once a small fishing village and from here you can get an incredible sunset from the rocks.
One of the best hotels on the water is Tintswalo Atlantic. This is one of the most unique properties I have ever stayed at. They have 10 rooms and a presidential suite, you cant get closer to the water I guarantee it!
Here are a few day trip options from Cape Town, just a 45-minute drive south. We have arrived at Boulders Beach home to the youngest African penguin colony.
This is one of few places in the world where you can see penguins up close. They have been wandering freely here since 1982, and the colony currently has more then 3,000 members. The boulders after which the beach is names date back over 540 million years!
Now let’s head down to Cape Point! Welcome to Cape Point, the southwestern most point of Africa. It’s located only a one hour drive south from Cape Town and you have to see it.
Cape Point is located within Table Mountain National Park in a section referred to as ‘Cape of Good Hope.’ This area of the park is wild and unspoiled – a very important haven for seabirds.
I left the best for last! Most people shudder at the thought of great white sharks that live in the waters off Cape Town, but we decided to be more adventurous and dive in and take a swim with their favorite prey, sea lions!
Animal Ocean offers adventure seekers the rare chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful animals. We departed from Houts Bay, to a nearby island that’s a bit shallow for the sharks.
After the Wetsuit is on, we dive in! The water was freezing and a bit murky, but the seals aren’t shy at all. They’re playful and graceful. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Kruger Park 4 day Safari South Africa Trip
Our second part of our vacation in South Africa was to Kruger Park. We started and ended in Johannesburg, so I've put that in separate videos and in this video I'd like to share most of the wonderful animal sightings we had.
There is no way to show what it is like to be there in person and actually being face to face with a wild lion or elephant, but I hope I was able to give a good feeling of what our trip was like in Kruger Park.
I would love to hear what you think about the travel videos, I know they are not run related like most of my videos, but I want to share this beautiful experience with you. Since I travel for a lot of my races I would love to hear if this is something you'd like me to share more often.

Announcing Our Trip To South Africa!!!
In late December, roughly the halfway mark of our time in teacher's college, we were bouncing ideas off of one another in terms of where we'd like to travel to as a graduation present for completing our degrees. What completely shocked us was when we found a deal to Johannesburg, South Africa for $350 return from New York City. To put this price in perspective we typically are not able to fly anywhere in Canada (1-2 hour flights) for that kind of price. Immediately we pounced on it.

The two of us have visited five different continents together; however, we've yet to set food on African soil. South Africa, a destination visited recently by many travel bloggers, has long been on our radar. After waiting for nearly five months we're now finished school and our adventures in South Africa have begun! We couldn't be more excited!
We plan on doing an overland journey from Jo-Burg to Cape Town focusing primarily on outdoors adventures including wildlife safaris and hiking. Some of the top highlights we're most excited about include having the opportunity to do an African wildlife safari at Kruger National Park and spending ample time in Cape Town.
We hope you'll come along for the ride :)
Announcing Our Trip To South Africa!!! Travel Video Transcript:
So it is a very exciting day today. This past week we graduated University which means it is time to travel again.
So we've kind of kept this trip as a surprise. We're going to somewhere we've never been before. New continent! Yeah, our 6th continent. We're heading to Africa - specifically, South Africa. And we're going to be there for an entire month almost.
So this video is going to be all about the journey getting there. It is actually going to take us three days to travel from Canada to South Africa. So we'll show you what that looks like and I have a feeling we'll be all disheveled and stinky by the end of it.
So this is flight one of three.
Okay, so the first part of our journey is complete. We made it from Toronto to La Guardia transferred over to JFK and now it is time for some lunch. And lucky for us we've found some Korean food here. So I'm having Kimchi Jigae which I haven't had in weeks. What a find! I know. That's a great way to kill all of the time we have. Yeah. Look at all of that soft tofu. Yum!
Flight number two out of three. We've been traveling for 13 hours.
So good morning from Abu Dhabi. We spent the night here just at a hotel in the airport because we had a really long layover. It was like 13 hours and we were exhausted. And there is no way I can handle sleeping on the floor at this age, so here we are. We're well rested. We had a shower and this morning we're going to go catch our last flight. Our third and final flight that will take us to Johannesburg.
So what is the plan once we get to South Africa? Well, we're doing an overland trip all the way from Johannesburg to Cape Town. And the main focus of this trip is just going to be a lot of outdoors adventures. The first thing we're doing is a safari and then after that we're going to be doing a lot of trekking and just other kinds of cool things.
So the goal for this trip is to make a vlog every day and we're going to try our best to stick to that.
And before we leave I just wanted to show you the view from the room. We're in the desert. It looks very dry. And yeah, that is all that we saw of Abu Dhabi, so we'll have to return sometime.
I have four seats all to myself.
Hello! All right we are finally here in Johannesburg. And I couldn't be more excited to start our journey. I am exhausted but you know adrenaline is pumping through my veins right now.
This is part of our Travel in South Africa series. We're making a series of videos showcasing South African culture, South African arts, South African foods, South African religion, South African cuisine and South African people.

South African Airways flight from South Africa to Germany travel vlog (Cape Town - Joburg - Munich) video transcript:
Well today is a travel day. What happened to our time in South Africa? Like it flew by.
Seriously. We've been here for 2 weeks and I still can't believe it. I feel like literally like we just got here.
Anyways, so we have a really long journey ahead of us. We are basically going to be traveling for a day and a half. Or two. Well first we're catching a taxi to the airport in Cape Town and then it it what a two hour flight to Joburg. A flight to Joburg. And then from Joburg we have an eleven hour flight to Munich in Germany and then we're going to arrive there and then we're going to have time to kill because we're going to be arriving early in the morning and we can't even check-in to our AirBNB until like mid-afternoon.
Then we're going to have to take a bus or a train to Nuremberg where we've rented an AirBNB. No, no no and then from the center of town we have to take another train because we're staying in the outskirts. Right so buckle up because we're going to show you the whole thing.
Two cups of Rooibos and a glass of Pinotage for Sam. The pinotage hasn't arrived yet but we are basically we're trying to get some of our favorite local things before we leave because we probably won't be able to have rooibos tea again for a while.
So our 1st of 2 flights with South African Airways. All aboard. All aboard. So Joburg and then we don't have that long of a wait and then yeah. Thankfully this is a short flight. The next one is going to be longer.
Wine o'clock. Even on the plane. Even on a short flight like this. That is so nice of them to give us wine. I know. The flight is less than 2 hours. Only an hour and forty minutes. And we're getting a meal too.
Dinner has been served.
Um, we are having stir-fried beef and it comes with salad. Salad and a piece of chocolate cake..
Alright, bit of a crazy update. We're not sure if we're going to make our flight.
We made it. They are holding the flight. You know what? W wouldn't have made it had it not been for these two really nice girls I think from the States who let us like jump two lines in the queue. Oh my gosh. Yes. Because we still had like 2 long zigzags to get through.
Update. We are greasy, we are sweaty. Feeling dirty and sleep deprived. Now we have to go find the S-Bahn. One step closer to getting to Nuremberg. Let's do it. Yes, get to the train station in Munich and then find the bus to Nuremberg.
So we made it to the bus terminal. We have our tickets for Nuremberg and now it is time for lunch. It is almost noon. So we hit up a German bakery and we got two savory things and a sweet thing.
We made it. I think it has been exactly 24 hours door to door because we left our AirBNB in Cape Town at like 2 in the afternoon and I think it is past 2 in the afternoon at this point.
So long day of travel. We arrived at our AirBNB which is pretty cute. Maybe we'll do a tour another day. But yes, it is time to sign off, get some rest. Say goodbye! Bye!
