Long Distance Guided Walks: The Complete Fen Rivers Way
The Fen Rivers Way is a 50 mile long distance trail beginning in the city centre of Cambridge and follows the River Cam and Great Ouse to the coastal town of Kings Lynn. There are numerous highlights along the path including the two rivers mentioned and the historic city of Ely and its breathtaking Cathedral.
The route is well served by the rail link to London so the route can be completed in sections much easier than other trails.

FEN RIVERS WAY
50 MILES CAMBRIDGE TO KING'S LYNN 22/10/15 AND 6/11/15 - 7/11/15. I did this long distance path solo, first as a day walk (Cambridge to Ely), and then Ely to King's Lynn in Norfolk as a 2 day walk with a wild camp overnight in a poncho tarp and bivvy bag. The rain and wind on the last 2 days was constant, as the pictures probably show, I even had to hitch hike one part where I got completely lost! It was a brilliant multiple day walk, one of my most memorable, and one of the first where I used an ultralight kit set up.

Cambridge’s boating community face fees rise
Cambridge’s live aboard boating community say their way of life will be put under threat if the council’s proposed changes to river moorings go ahead. The council are consulting on plans that could see mooring fees increase and end the long-held practice of boats tying up on the Riverside wall.

The Train that Floats in the Sky
A new film about Cambridgeshire’s remarkable high-speed hovertrain experiment of the 1960s and ‘70s.
This film has been produced with filmmaker Nick Edwards through the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, University of Cambridge in partnership with Peterborough’s Railworld, as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund grant-aided Ouse Washes Landscape Partnership.
The origins of applying a hovering principle to high-speed ground transport were conceived in the early 1960s, and ‘propelled’ in 1967 by government allocation of £5.25 million through which Tracked Hovercraft Ltd was formed. With the company’s offices and laboratories based in Cambridge, the construction of a full scale test track – a gigantic monorail – was begun in 1969 along the Old Bedford River between the fenland villages of Earith and Sutton Gault.
This grand Utopian experiment aimed towards the fastest commuter transport in the world, but ended in 1973. The film explores the local and physical legacy of the project, and what might have occurred had it succeeded.
