3 States at Once: Fenelon Place Elevator
Hey guys! We are in Dubuque, IA and we are traveling by elevator! The Fenelon Place Elevator is considered the shortest and steepest railway. The elevator opened in July 1882. Back then, Dubuque was an hour and a half town. Meaning, people would go home for an hour and a half at noon for lunch. Mr. Graves liked to eat and nap, but it took him 30 minutes to get home and 30 minutes to get back to work. He wanted a quick way to get home, so the Fenelon elevator was born! Although the railway has been constructed many times due to fire, it still exists and it listed on the National Register of Historical Places! Check it out!
Parking: Park at the top, which is residential street parking. You pay at the top to ride the elevator.
Worth a Visit: Sure! It's always fun to visit a location that is listed on the National Register of Historical Places! Oh, and the scenic view is amazing! You get to see 3 states at once, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin! The Fenelon Place Elevator is located at 512 Fenelon Place in Dubuque, IA.
