This short but interesting walk on the edge of the town of Banff loops through forest at the eastern edge of the Vermillion Lakes marshland. The trail runs beside the meandering waters of Echo and Forty Mile Creeks and loops through a spruce forest carpeted with bunchberry and a green cloud of horsetails.

The hike to Elbow Lake is a wonderful, family-friendly hike in the Highwood Area. It’s also the perfect first backpack trip, as Elbow Lake is so close to the trailhead. We do this hike every year with our family.
The hike to Elbow Lake is a classic family hike, with great scenery for limited effort. There is also Elbow Lake Backcountry Campground, and for many families this is the first backpacking trip they do as a family.
From the Elbow Pass Parking lot, take the signed path that heads out from the parking lot. You’ll follow this wide path for about 1.0km. At the 1.0km mark, you’ll find yourself in a wide-open cirque with views all around you. On your right, you can see a peak from the Mount Rae massif: its shape reminiscent of a breaking wave.

Watch this hike video for help planning your Rawson Lake hike, one of our best family day hikes on the Kananaskis Trail in Banff National Park, Alberta. Enjoy the spectacular views of Rawson Lake while learning about the hike elevation, distance, time to complete, difficulty, and other important details to help your family plan the perfect day hike in the majestic Canadian Rockies.
Excerpt from our Rawson Lake hike description on 10Adventures.com
The hike to Rawson Lake is one of the most popular in the Kananaskis Lakes area. It’s a pleasant path through the forest up to Rawson Lake, but the hike around the side of Rawson Lake is what is truly spectacular.
From the Upper Kananaskis Parking lot, walk down to Upper Kananaskis Lake where you find a wide path. Go left on this path and follow it while it follows the lakeshore. The views along this part of the walk are spectacular, and many tourists come just to look at the stunning Upper Kananaskis Lake.
After approximately 20 minutes you cross over Sarrail Creek on a wooden bridge, just afterwards is a signed turn-off to the left for Rawson Lake. The sign lists the distance to Rawson Lake as 2.7km. The path to Rawson Lake goes steadily uphill through a subalpine forest. This part of the hike to Rawson Lake is described anywhere from an easy hike to ‘actually quite difficult’. It all depends if you are a seasoned hiker or just starting out. Everybody agrees that hiking up the switchbacks to Rawson Lake is worth it though, so don’t give up!

Biking Stoney Squaw in Banff National Park
Stoney Squaw in Banff National Park. Upper stoney squaw is a brutal climb but you're rewarded with nice scenery and a super fun, techy descent with loam, roots, rocks, and rich green moss. Lower stoney squaw is less technical, allowing you to let off the brakes more and enjoy some high speeds.
This is pretty popular hiking trail during peak summer season. Possibly best left for weekday evenings or off peak season.

Mountain Biking in Banff, Canada - Topp Notch Trail
A day off the snow in Banff allowed for an awesome mountain bike experience on one of Banff's more difficult trails, Topp Notch. I hired a bike for a couple of hours and did a loop. I tried to capture the best of it in a little over 2 mins (the whole loop took me around 15 mins).
