WENDY TOOGOOD ARTWORKS 1985 - 2010
This slideshow/movie covers some twenty-five years of Wendy Toogood's work, from about 1985 through 2010. It includes some of the earlier large scale cloth-construction works (these are up to 5 x 7 feet) as well as drawings, Artist Trading Cards, the large work entitled Connecting (made up of a number of smaller units) and her most recent textile work Nakusp Narratives.
The movie opens with her exhibition entitled Narratives at Kootenay Gallery of Art, Castlegar, BC, June 12 to July 26, 2009 --- this is an overview of her work from about 1985 to 2009. I have included titles in the movie to indicate which gallery is being viewed at a particular time. Connecting is first shown in the Kootenay Gallery and then in the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (at the Alberta College of Art & Design) in Calgary --- this included some shots of Wendy installing the work at the IKG (and just before that a couple of shots of her in her former studio in Calgary).
Next we see Nakusp Narratives in the group exhibition Gemeinsame Sache (Common Cause) at the Kasseler Kunstverein in the Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, March, 2009 --- Wendy was able to travel there and install the work and attend the opening.
Then we see Nakusp Narratives at the Stride Gallery in Calgary, installation shots and quite a few more details. Then three shots of Wendy in her new studio here in Nakusp which is immediately followed by a shot, with some details, of a large commission by Wendy in the Edmonton City Hall. Then one of her drawings (8.5 x 11 inches) immediately followed by images of some ATCs quickly covering the years 1998 to 2010.
The soundtrack music is Djarabi from the African Guitar Summit by the African Guitar Summit. This was not the first tune I picked for the soundtrack but the first one was blocked for copyright reasons, but I love this tune.

Holiday Train
Starting in 1999, CP runs a Holiday Train along its main line during the months of November and December. The Holiday Train celebrates the holiday season and collects donations for community food banks and hunger issues. The Holiday Train also provides publicity for CP and a few of its customers. Each train has a box car stage for entertainers who are travelling along with the train.
The train is a freight train, but also pulls vintage passenger cars which are used as lodging/transportation for the crew and entertainers. Only entertainers and CP employees are allowed to board the train aside from a coach car that takes employees and their families from one stop to the next. All donations collected in a community remain in that community for distribution.
There are two Holiday Trains that cover 150 stops in Canada and the United States Northeast and Midwest. Each train is roughly 1,000 feet (300 m) in length with brightly decorated railway cars, including a modified box car that has been turned into a travelling stage for performers. They are each decorated with hundred of thousands of LED Christmas lights. In 2013 to celebrate the program's 15th year, three signature events were held in Hamilton, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta, and Cottage Grove, Minnesota, to further raise awareness for hunger issues.

The trains feature different entertainers each year; in 2016, one train featured Dallas Smith and the Odds, while the other featured Colin James and Kelly Prescott. After its 20th anniversary tour in 2018, which hosted Terri Clark, Sam Roberts Band, The Trews and Willy Porter, the tour reported to have raised more than CA$15.8 million and collected more than 4.5 million pounds (2,000 t) of food since 1999.

On Wednesday, November 28th, 2018 I had the opportunity to hop North across the border and venture into Canada to see the 20th Anniversary of the CP Holiday from Finch to Perth Ontario. Such a wonderful experience to see this Magical train and for my first time in Canada just made for one memorable time. Of course, I am a fan of Terri Clark and the CP Holiday train so it just made sense for me to go and see it one of those possibly once in a lifetime events. Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and thanks to all involved doing this train donating to the food banks of all the local towns along the way.
IT’S BACK! CP 9803 at Utopia (08APR2016)
Canadian Pacific 9803, UP 2538, CP 8894 (Train 118 - Edmonton to Toronto) crossing the BCRY diamond at Utopia heading for the main at Baxter to meet CP 113 and CP 247. THE DIAMOND IS BACK! At mile 58 of the Canadian Pacific Mactier subdivision and mile 75 of the former Canadian National Meaford subdivision is the Utopia diamond and BCRY rail yard. The Barrie-Collingwood Railway (BCRY) is a short-line railway operation involving a partnership between the City of Barrie, Town of Collingwood, current shippers, CP Rail and the railway operator Cando Contracting Ltd. Collingwood withdrew from the partnership in 2011 and recently the diamond was partially dismantled leaving the 1855 built line unofficially abandoned. Fortunately for BCRY, their services for storing some newly built DOT 117 tankers were needed.
CP 118 was featuring a Union Pacific locomotive and an interesting art covered autorack at 2:12.
