Escape to the Country - East Midlands ...
The East Midlands is one of nine official regions of England at the first level of NUTS for statistical purposes. The eastern part of the Midlands, it consists of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire (except North and North East Lincolnshire), Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.
The region has an area of 15,627 km2 (6,034 sq mi), and was home to over 4.5 million people in 2011. There are five principal urban centres, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham; and a number of next tier centres including Boston, Chesterfield, Corby, Grantham, Hinckley, Kettering, Loughborough, Mansfield, Newark and Wellingborough. The region's relative proximity to London and its connectivity on the national motorway and trunk road networks help the East Midlands thrive as an economic hub. The region's principal airport is East Midlands Airport located between Derby, Loughborough and Nottingham.
Regional financial funding decisions for the East Midlands are taken by East Midlands Councils, based in Melton Mowbray. East Midlands Councils is not an elected body; it is made up of representatives of local government in the region.
The East Midlands Development Agency was headquartered next to the BBC's East Midlands office in Nottingham, and made financial decisions regarding economic development in the region.
However, since the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition government launched their austerity programme following the 2010 general election, regional bodies such as those held by the Regional Development Agencies have been devolved to smaller groups now on a County level. As a region today, there is no overriding body with significant financial or planning powers for the East Midlands.
Escape to the Country is a British daytime television reality property-buying/real estate programme, created by Talkback Thames, which premieres on network BBC One, produced by John Comerford and is repeated on BBC Two.

Places to see in ( Dunster - UK )
Places to see in ( Dunster - UK )
Dunster is a village, civil parish and former manor within the English county of Somerset, today just within the north-eastern boundary of the Exmoor National Park. It lies on the Bristol Channel coast 2.5 miles (4 km) south-southeast of Minehead and 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Taunton.
Iron Age hillforts testify to occupation of the area for thousands of years. The village grew up around Dunster Castle which was built on the Tor by the Norman warrior William I de Moyon (d. post 1090) shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Castle is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. From that time it was the caput of the Feudal barony of Dunster. The Castle was remodelled on several occasions by the Luttrell family who were lords of the manor from the 14th to 20th centuries. The benedictine Dunster Priory was established in about 1100. The Priory Church of St George, dovecote and tithe barn are all relics from the Priory.
The village became a centre for wool and cloth production and trade, of which the Yarn Market, built by George Luttrell (d.1629), is a relic. There existed formerly a harbour, known as Dunster Haven, at the mouth of the River Avill, yet today the coast having receded is now about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) from the village and no sign of the harbour can be seen on the low lying marshes between the village and the coast. Dunster has a range of heritage sites and cultural attractions which combine with the castle to make it a popular tourist destination with many visitors arriving on the West Somerset Railway, a heritage railway running from Minehad to Bishops Lydeard. The village lies on the route of the Macmillan Way West, Somerset Way and Celtic Way Exmoor Option.
Dunster is mentioned as a manor and Dunster Castle as belonging to William I de Moyon (alias de Moion, also de Mohun) in the 1086 Domesday Book. After the Norman conquest of England in the 11th century, he constructed a timber castle on the site as part of the pacification of Somerset. A stone shell keep was built on the motte by the start of the 12th century, and the castle survived a siege during the early years of the Anarchy. At the end of the 14th century the de Mohuns sold the castle to the Luttrell family, who continued to occupy the property until the late 20th century.
Dunster Castle was positioned on a steep, 200-foot (61 m) high hill. Geologically, the hill is an outcrop of Hangman Grits, a type of red sandstone. During the early medieval period the sea reached the base of the hill, close to the mouth of the River Avill, offering a natural defence and making the village an inland port. Nearby is the Dunster Park and Heathlands Site of Special Scientific Interest noted for nationally important lowland dry heath, dry lowland acid grassland, wood-pasture with veteran trees and ancient semi-natural oak woodland habitats.
Dunster, in Exmoor National Park, has many listed buildings including 200 Grade II, two Grade I and two Grade II*. The 17th century Yarn Market is a market cross which was probably built in 1609 by the Luttrell family who were the local lords of the manor to maintain the importance of the village as a market, particularly for wool and cloth. Nearby was an older cross known as the Butter Cross which was constructed in the late 14th or early 15th century and once stood in the High Street.
Other notable buildings include the Nunnery, Dunster Watermill, Dovecote and the Priory barn, which belonged to Dunster Priory. Dunster Working Watermill (also known as Castle Mill) is a restored 18th century watermill, situated on the River Avill, close to Gallox Bridge, in the grounds of Dunster Castle. It is a Grade II* listed building. Conygar Tower is a folly used as a landmark for shipping. It is at the top of Conygar Hill and overlooks the village. It is a circular, 3 storey tower built of red sandstone, situated on a hill overlooking the village. Dunster Doll Museum houses a collection of more than 800 dolls from around the world.
Dunster railway station is on the West Somerset Heritage Railway, though the station is over a mile from the village. The station was opened on 16 July 1874 by the Minehead Railway. Road access is via the A39 and A369. The nearest international airports would be those at Exeter or Bristol.
( Dunster - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Dunster . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Dunster - UK

Escape to the Country - Scottish Borders - 2018 - 2019
Escape to the Country - Scottish Borders ...
The Scottish Borders is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. It borders the City of Edinburgh, Dumfries and Galloway, East Lothian, Midlothian, South Lanarkshire, West Lothian and, to the south-west, south and east, the English counties of Cumbria and Northumberland. The administrative centre of the area is Newtown St Boswells.
The term Scottish Borders is also used to designate the areas of southern Scotland and northern England that bound the Anglo-Scottish border.
The term Borders also has a wider meaning, referring to all of the counties adjoining the English border, also including Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbrightshire — as well as Northumberland, Cumberland and Westmorland in England.
Roxburghshire and Berwickshire historically bore the brunt of the conflicts with England, both during declared wars such as the Wars of Scottish Independence, and armed raids which took place in the times of the Border Reivers. Thus, across the region are to be seen the ruins of many castles, abbeys and even towns.
The council area was created in 1975, by merging the historic counties of Berwickshire, Peeblesshire, Roxburghshire, and Selkirkshire and part of Midlothian, as a two-tier region with the districts of Berwickshire, Ettrick and Lauderdale, Roxburgh, and Tweeddale within it. In 1996 the region became a unitary authority area and the districts were wound up. The region was created with the name Borders. Following the election of a shadow area council in 1995 the name was changed to Scottish Borders with effect from 1996.
Although there is evidence of some Scottish Gaelic in the origins of place names such as Innerleithen (confluence of the Leithen), Kilbucho and Longformacus, which contain identifiably Goidelic rather than Brythonic Celtic elements and are an indication of at least a Gaelic-speaking elite in the area, the main languages in the area since the 5th century appear to have been Brythonic (in the west) and Old English (in the east), the latter of which developed into its modern forms of English and Scots.

Why shoot foxes?
The British red fox is widespread across the whole of mainland Britain and Ireland. The best estimate of the current British fox population is 240,000 adults in spring, to which a production of 425,000 cubs is added annually. The fox has no natural predator and for the population to remain stable, 425,000 foxes must therefore die each year.
Fox numbers need to be managed and controlled to prevent the predation of lambs, piglets reared outdoors, free range and domestic poultry. Foxes can also have a significant impact on vulnerable species of ground nesting birds such as black grouse, partridge, lapwing and curlew (Bealey, Green, Robson, Taylor & Winspear, 1999).
In order to protect such species while they are breeding, conservators and gamekeepers aim to control fox numbers, particularly from late winter to early summer. Foxes are also controlled around pheasant and partridge rearing and release pens in late summer and autumn. Overall, the direct cost to UK agriculture from fox predation has been estimated at £12 million annually (UK Government figures)

8 Strange Abandoned Recreational Places
From the controversial Splendid China Park, to the water park in the middle of the desert, these are 8 Strange Abandoned Recreational Places !
HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat !
8.Consonno
LOCATION - Consonno, Italy
7.Nara Dreamland
LOCATION - NARA, JAPAN
6.American Adventure Theme Park
LOCATION - DERBYSHIRE, ENGLAND
5.Splendid China
LOCATION - ORLANDO, FLORIDA
At its core, the park was a collection of miniature replicas of famous Chinese buildings and locations. They even had the Great Wall of China. It just wasn’t so great, or in China… but whatever that's not the point.
It opened in 1993, and in the beginning it featured a lot of talented Chinese actors and performers… who immediately ran away from the park and claimed asylum in the United States… Seriously, never thought that a small park in Florida would be the site of so much controversy !
Splendid China closed down in 2003, and news from the area state that a Margaritaville is being built at the location.
4.Atlantis Marine Park
LOCATION - AUSTRALIA
This obscure little place was constructed in 1981, and it featured seven bottlenose dolphins as its main attraction. Oh and of course, the big statue of Neptune that has passed the test of time.
It seems like they didn’t plan for everything though, dolphins are active creatures, and there were 3 dolphin calves born in 1988. Due to regulations, the park had to build a much bigger enclosure for the dolphins. Unfortunately, there was not enough money to do so, the park went bankrupt, the dolphins were released into the wild, and Neptune got vandalised. The End.
3.Rock-A-Hoola Waterpark
LOCATION - Newberry Springs, California
If you have ever made the boring 4 hour desert drive between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, chances are, you have seen the remnants of the Rock- A - Hoola water park. It was constructed in the early 1960’s and by 1990, it was forgotten by most, and abandoned. That is until 1998, when it was reopened by new owners, hoping for a different outcome.
In 1999, it hosted the Electric Daisy Carnival, and by late 2000, the park had amassed over 3 million dollars in debt, plus a 4.4 million dollar insurance payout for an employee injury. Needless to say, the company filed for a Chapter 11, and the park was permanently shut down…
Except, for you know, all the cool stuff that has happened there since, including filming commercials, music videos, and having major paintball fights.
2.Flintstones Bedrock City
LOCATION - WILLIAMS, ARIZONA
Do you love the Flinstones? Do you love websites straight outta the 90’s ? Do you love abandoned theme parks? THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU MY FRIEND.
Not to be confused with the Bedrock City in South Dakota, this place is located in Williams, Arizona. It also not completely abandoned, the owner of the property still lives on the site, but is unable to do any upkeep.
They did try to sell the park for $2 million but, sadly, no one wanted to Make Bedrock City Great Again.
Honorable Mentions
Before we jump into #1, here are some honorable mentions, and of course, a little subscriber appreciation, thanks for the awesome support !
First we have the most famous abandoned place in the World, Pripyat, and the desolate amusement park within. It sure makes for a great photo location, apart from the general feeling of despair and sadness.
There is also the not so famous Boblo Island ! It is located on the Detroit River, and it closed down in 1993. There are not that many pictures of the place, and almost all of the rides were sold off to other parks.
Next up, The Six Flags New Orleans, a victim of the vicious Hurricane Katrina, this park has been used in a few hollywood productions, I go into much more detail in the 10 Restricted Abandoned Places video, check it out !
By the way, any Mr. Robot fans around here? Did you ever wonder if the FSociety Headquarters was a real place, or just a film set? Well it’s a little bit of both, the outside scenes were filmed in front of the Eldorado Bumper Cars & Arcade on Coney Island, for inside scenes, the production used Silvercup Studios, also based in NY.
1.Birnbeck Pier
LOCATION - North Somerset, England
Finally, we have the Birnbeck Pier, once a staple of the Bristol Channel, the Birnbeck Pier was opened on June 5, 1867. Making this the oldest location in this video.
Since then, the pier has been plagued by heavy damage from storms, and change of owners.
It was finally closed for safety reasons in 1994. It lay in disrepair until 2006 when it was sold to Urban Splash, a company specializing in fixing up abandoned buildings. Unfortunately, even they were not able to bring the Pier back to its former glory, the site is becoming more dangerous for urban explorers every year, with the latest collapse happening in Dec 2015.
Church of St John the Baptist, Glastonbury, Somerset UK
The present church replaced an earlier one. Though documentary evidence for St Johns survives only from the later 12th century, other evidence tends to suggest that a church existed on this site at a significantly earlier date.[3] According to legend, the original church was built by Saint Dunstan in the tenth century.[4] Recent excavations in the nave have revealed the foundations of a large central tower that possibly dated from Saxon times, and a later Norman nave arcade on the same plan as the existing one. A central tower survived until the 15th Century, but is believed to have collapsed, at which time the church was rebuilt.[5] In the north aisle, 12th century fabric survives in the former Saint Katherine's Chapel.[6]...
Europe:
Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It comprises the westernmost part of Eurasia. Europe is generally considered as separated from Asia by the watershed divides of the Ural and Caucasus Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian and Black Seas, and the waterways of the Turkish Straits.[5] Yet the non-oceanic boundary between Europe and Asia—a concept dating back to classical antiquity—is arbitrary and amounts to a historical and social construct. The primarily physiographic term continent as applied to Europe also incorporates cultural and political elements whose discontinuities are not always reflected by the continent's current overland boundary with Asia.
Canada:
Canada (/ˈkænədə/; French: [kanadɑ]) is a country which is located in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area, and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's southern border with the United States is the world's longest bi-national land border. The majority of the country has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southern areas are warm in summer. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains. It is highly urbanized with 82 percent of the 35.15 million people concentrated in large and medium-sized cities, many near the southern border. Its capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.
