**** ABOUT THIS VIDEO *****
Two nights backpacking (and tarp camping) the Fiery Gizzard Trail at South Cumberland State Park in Tennessee. Season: Fall, with the leaves turning. Dates: Novembe 1 - 3, 2015. I started from the Foster Falls trailhead, hiked to the other end at Tracy City (taking the Dog Hole Trail detour), then hiked the entire trail in the other direction (Tracy City to Foster Falls) the next day. I tried to get some video of all the best features of the trail, which Backpacker Magazine has listed as one of the country's best autumn hikes. Seen on the video: Foster Falls, Anderson Falls, Sycamore Falls, many other unnamed falls, Laurel Gorge and Laurel Gorge Overlook, Raven Point, Werner Overlook, Black Canyon, Chimney Rock, the Fruit Bowl, Small Wild campsite, CCC Campsite, Fiery Gizzard sink, and more. Music in the video: Scott Gratton (The First), The Builders and the Butchers (We All Know the Way), and The Red Thread (All In).

EXPERIENCE one of the Nation's BEST HIKES | Fiery Gizzard Trail | Skoolie Couple
Hola Amigees!
Today we take you to Tracy City, Tennessee for what is considered to be one of the BEST hikes in Tennessee and one of the TOP 25 hikes in the entire country. Fiery Gizzard Trail. This is a trail that is very near and dear to Chase's heart. In College he hiked here often with friends. As we show you in the video even the first few miles of this 24.6 mile roundtrip loop are rewarded by views so beautiful that they seem fake.
We're dropping to 1 video per week for through August starting with this one. Chase accepted a new remote job and will be training in downtown Nashville until the end of August which is going to be pretty difficult to squeeze two videos a week in during that time.
We'll be incorporating a few live streams into the rhythm in lieu of a missing video every so often, but then we'll be back to our regularly schedule posting on Thursday & Sunday.
Life is good.
See you later friends!

Backpacking the Fiery Gizzard Trail
Flatbill and myself go out on an overnight backpacking trip to Tracy City, TN for the famous Fiery Gizzard Trail. Ranked by Backpacker Magazine as one of the top 25 backpacking trails in the US and #6 for fall foliage.
Here is a link with great information about the Fiery Gizzard Trail:
Fiery Gizzard Hike | South Cumberland State Park, Tennessee
One of the most scenic, and strenuous, day hikes we've ever done east of the Mississippi. Considered one of America's top 25 hikes according to Backpacker Magazine, the Fiery Gizzard Trail will test your endurance, as the first 5 miles in the gorge takes you through rock shelters and across streams, into boulder fields that will also test your route finding skills, and finally a brutal 500' climb out of the gorge. A small price to pay for multiple waterfalls, and views from Raven's Point across the gorge. The full loop hike is roughly 10.7 miles, and took us 8 hours to complete (including all breaks.) Located in the Fiery Gizzard Recreation Area of South Cumberland State Park, Tracy City, Tennessee.

The All-New Fiery Gizzard Trail with Jaxx Drinkwater and friends
In this video, I hike the Fiery Gizzard Trail in southeastern Tennessee with Jaxx Drinkwater and others.
The five of us took the Dog Hole detour plus a side trip to Raven Point. My focus on the hike (and in the video) was on the new areas of trail that have just recently been opened.
The Fiery Gizzard Trail is located in South Cumberland State Park near Sewanee, TN. Over the past 18 months, about two miles of the trail were re-routed to go around some private property. More than 125 volunteers spent more than 10,000 hours working with the park's rangers to built this new trail.
Thanks to Jaxx Drinkwater and the others I met on this hike:
Ftroop, Roche, Emcee, Hanginout, and Grapenut. It was a great group and great fun!
Be sure to check out Jaxx's YouTube channel (link in the video) and subscribe if you haven't. On his own channel, Jaxx will have his own video that covers this hike, which continued for Jaxx in Savage Gulf.
A note on my footwear: I hiked the trail in my Luna Mono Gordo 2.0 sandals. I've put about 300 trail miles on these sandals, and wanted to see how they would perform on a steep, rocky trail. Verdict: no blisters, no falls, and no complaints (with the caveat: not for everyone!).

Fiery Gizzard - End to End to End
Starting at the Grundy Forest parking lot, we head out along the Fiery Gizzard trail to experience the new reroute (new to us). Camp is site number 2 at Small Wilds. On day two we head out via the Dog Hole Trail.
Humidity was high, but the temps were nice. Dropped to around 65 F at night. Went without the hammock this time and opted for the Borah big bivy. Had a much better sleep and was able to carry less.
Base weight was 6.6 pounds. Total weight was right at 12 pounds.
Check out Stop-N-Go's video of the trip for an entirely different take:

Foster Falls Hike in Tracy City, Tennessee | Fiery Gizzard Trail
The Fiery Gizzard Trail in South Cumberland State Park in Sequatchie, Tennessee is one of the top trails in America. I had hiked the opposite entry into the Fiery Gizzard trail earlier in the year and, unfortunately due to it getting dark, did not finish the whole trail to see Foster Falls. The Foster Falls 1.6 mile loop trail had been on my radar since. It was a warm fall day and I felt it to be perfect time to check out what I had missed.

Fiery Gizzard/Foster Falls Hike - music: JEFF PEARCE
January 7th, 2017 - It was a very cold 15 degree day on the Fiery Gizzard trail but we stayed warm. This hike will take you on the upper rim over Foster Falls to a few beautiful overlooks and down into the Laurel Gorge and back up. Then, loop back by heading down to the climber's access area.

Hiking the Fiery Gizzard Trail
The Fiery Gizzard Trail features cascading streams, numerous waterfalls, panoramic overlooks, extremely rocky gorges, gentle slopes and lush woodlands. This trail is one of the most diverse and beautiful in the state and has been ranked as one of the top twenty-five backpacking trails in the U. S. by Backpacker magazine.
The Fiery Gizzard Trail, April 2017
Last weekend, 9 of us met up to hike the Fiery Gizzard trail along the South Cumberland Plateau in TN. The trail is a 12.5 mile long end-to-end trail. We chose to begin on the Grundy Forest side and finish at Foster Falls. I didn't know much about the trail beforehand, but let me tell you, this is a beautiful trail! Streams and waterfalls galore, cliff edges with views looking out over the gorges... rock hopping and wooded paths... this trail is definitely worth a hike if you never have before. As you can see from the video, we all really enjoyed it!
Also, never mind that the title says March... we did this hike oil April 1 & 2... lol!
Thanks to Jeff from JBens Blog for organizing this hike. Check out his site here:
