The name signifies place to the west from the Gaelic Siar meaning west , probably in relation to St Andrews. Robert Fleming Gourlay was born March 22, 1778 in Craigrothie in the Parish of Ceres. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of St. Andrews and studied agriculture at the University of Edinburgh. In 1817, his wife inherited some land in the Niagara District of Upper Canada and he travelled there via New York City, expecting to return by the Fall. He returned to England and published A General Introduction to a Statistical Account of Upper Canada in 1822. In 1856, he returned to his property in Canada and ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Oxford in Canada West. He returned to Edinburgh, Scotland, and died there in 1863.

The A91 meet the A914 just east of Dairsie, then runs through a fairly rural farming area The road then meets the A919 from Leuchars at a roundabout on the west bank of the River Eden at Guardbridge. The road then continues for a few miles then goes along North Street into the university town of St Andrews.

Kelty, Scottish Gaelic: Cailtidh, is a former coal mining village in the heart of the old mining heartlands of Fife. A settlement was established here by 1600, when Keltey appeared as a village on the line of the stagecoach road between Edinburgh, via the ferry, and Perth. Kelty is situated on the Fife and Perthshire boundary, next to the main Edinburgh to Perth road, the M90 motorway, and as a result of this has seen a large number of houses built primarily for commuters to Edinburgh over the past five years. To the East of Kelty is Loch Ore and, beyond, the villages of Ballingry and Lochore, while a little over a mile and a half to the South East is Cowdenbeath.

St Andrew's Day Drive To Cupar Fife Scotland

He was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He died in 1887 and is buried in the Eastern Cemetery at St Andrews.

Drive From Cupar Fife To Perth Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland video of a drive on the A913 road from Cupar, Fife, through Newburgh and Abernethy on ancestry visit to Perth, Perthshire. The road starts off in the West of Cupar on the A91. It runs north west through hilly countryside to a staggered crossroads with the A92, then continues west through rural Fife to Lindores Loch. The road now runs north round the edge of the Pentland Hills into Newburgh on the banks of the Tay, although the road remains inland. Heading west once more it goes through Abernethy and Aberargie, ending on a roundabout on where it meets the A912 to Perth
December Late Afternoon Drive Over Tay Road Bridge To Dundee Scotland
Tour Scotland December video of a late afternoon drive North on the A92 road across the Tay Road Bridge which spans the Firth of Tay from Newport-on-Tay in Fife to Dundee in Tayside. The bridge was designed by William Fairhurst and construction began in March 1963 with the infilling of West Graving Dock, King William Dock and Earl Grey docks in Dundee. The construction was undertaken by Duncan Logan Construction Ltd. Controversially, construction required the demolition of Dundee's Royal Arch where Queen Victoria had entered the city on a royal visit. Rubble from the Victoria arch was used as foundations for the on-ramp. The completed bridge was officially opened by the Queen Mother on 18 August 1966.

Hopetoun Monument Mount Hill rises from the rolling farmland about three miles north west of Cupar in North East Fife, Scotland. On its summit stands the 29-metre (95 ft) high Hopetoun Monument, which is visible for many miles around.
The Hopetoun Monument was erected by the people of Cupar in 1826 in memory of the British soldier John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun (1765–1823).The monument takes the form of a giant Roman Doric column, and is protected as a category B listed building. The inscription on the monument reads:
