Whitby and Robinhoods Bay Great Britain
Whitby is altijd belangrijk gebleven.
Een ander boek dat in Whitby speelt is Michel Faber's The Hundred and Ninety Nine Steps.
Whitby is a village in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. The town has 13,740 inhabitants. The place is known for a number of highlights in the history and literature. Thus, the Explorer James Cook connected to Whitby. There is also a statue of him in the city. Whitby has been around for very long. In the Anglo-Saxon time (around 657) was already a settlement. It was in those years a knowledge centre. The first examples of written English literature. The poet Cædmon is connected to Whitby Abbey. Whitby is always important. The remains of Whitby Abbey and St. Mary's Church bear witness to the greatness from the Anglo-Saxon period to the beginning of the 20th century. A major source of income in the 19th and 20th centuries was fishing, especially the whaling. In the literature is Bram Stoker's Dracula in Whitby for famous work. Whitby was the port of arrival for the count
The time of whaling is a thing of the past. There is still a fishing fleet which fish and crab catches in the North Sea. Furthermore, Whitby having tourists. As coastal, it is loved by English families for a holiday or a day out: strolling along the port and coast, the beach, the Dracula Museum and of course the walk (staircase with 199 steps) to the Abbey. In the shops in the city are selling local products: the deep black Whitby Jet-processed in jewelry; nicely formatted crabs, fresh fish and of course various local artists in Whitby established the port is (literally) the heart of the city: the River Esk divides the city in two. Both banks are connected by an old swing bridge that only very limited can be opened for shipping. Only from one hour before to one hour after high tide, there is plenty of water to ships to pass through.

Places to see in ( Hawes - UK )
Places to see in ( Hawes - UK )
Hawes is a small market town and civil parish in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, that was granted its market charter in 1699. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Hawes is located at the head of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, the River Ure runs to the north of the town and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The parish of Hawes also includes the neighbouring hamlet of Gayle. It is 31.2 miles (50.2 km) west of the county town of Northallerton. The Wensleydale Creamery is a major producer of Wensleydale cheese.
The village once had a railway station that was the terminus of the Hawes branch of the Midland Railway and an end-on terminus of the line from Northallerton from its opening in 1878 to its closure in April 1954. British Railways kept the line to Garsdale Junction open for passengers until 1959. The Wensleydale Railway Association has plans to rebuild the railway from Northallerton (from its current western terminus at Redmire) to Garsdale including re-opening the station in the village.
The parish of Hawes covers the large areas of moorland on Dodd Fell, Snays Fell, Stags Fell and Widdale Fell and includes the River Ure tributaries of Widdale Beck and Gayle Beck. The latter flows through the town of Hawes. There are many abandoned lead mines, quarries and limekilns in the parish indicating its industrial past. A short distance form the town on Gayle Beck are the Aysgill Force waterfalls. The highest point in the parish is Great Knoutberry Hill at 2,205 feet (672 m). The parish extends as far north as Hellgill Bridge along a narrow strip either side of the Ure.
The civil parish of Hawes also includes the neighbouring hamlets of Gayle, Appersett and Burtersett. The A684 road from Sedbergh to Osmotherley passes through the town and the B6255 begins at the western edge of the town and links it to Ingleton.
The main attraction is the Wensleydale Creamery Centre which was established by former workers of the original Hawes Dairy in 1992. It produces the eponymous cheese to traditional recipes following those first done by French monks in the 12th century. The centre has won many prestigious cheese awards, including Supreme Champion for its Wensleydale Blue in 2012. The cheeses produced by the Creamery are undergoing the final stages of an application for Protected Food Name Status.
Other local tourist attractions include the Dales Countryside Museum, based in the old Hawes railway station of the Wensleydale Railway, nearby Hardraw Force waterfall, and the Buttertubs Pass which links Wensleydale to Swaledale. Hawes has a regular market, as well as many shops, pubs and tearooms. Hawes is a centre for walking (hiking) the countryside and the Pennine Way passes through here. There is a youth hostel located on Lancaster Terrace at the western end of the town.
( Hawes - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Hawes . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Hawes - UK

Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Whitby Harbour
Places to see in ( Yorkshire - UK ) Whitby Harbour
Whitby is a seaside town in Yorkshire, northern England, split by the River Esk. On the East Cliff, overlooking the North Sea, the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for “Dracula”. Nearby is the Church of St. Mary, reached by 199 steps. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum, in the house where Cook once lived, displays paintings and maps. West of town is West Cliff Beach, lined with beach huts.
The port of Whitby has been a safe haven for passing ships since the 1600s offering shelter on a rather rugged coastline. The estuary of the River Esk,as it leads to Ruswarp, was the perfect location for shipping and shipbuilding. Shipbuilding in earnest started in the 17th century mainly through the coal trade and later by the allum trade. By the latter half of the 18th century there were 11 shipyards along the estuary.
The Swing Bridge, as we know it was opened in July 1909 and has just celebrated its 100th anniversary. There has been a crossing between the east and west sides of the town at this point since 1351, when Edward III granted his bailiffs authority to collect tolls to maintain it. In 1629, the wooden bridge was replaced by a structure which as well as a crossing, allowed ships to pass under by means of moving various ropes and pulleys, in order to reach the upper harbour. This again was replaced in 1766, by a drawbridge system.
On the east side of the town there are two piers, within the harbour. Tate Hill Pier (formerly Burgess Pier) and the Fish Pier, which is the home of the RNLI lifeboat. The first lifeboat station established in 1802, was on the west side, one of only a handful around the country. In 1915 a replacement boathouse was built on the east side to house the motor lifeboat, and in 2007 the present boathouse was completed. Across the harbour on the west side, the first lifeboat station closed in 1934, and is now the Old Lifeboat Museum.
Whitby has two amateur rowing clubs, the Whitby Fishermans Amateur Rowing Club, situated near the Fish Pier and Whitby Friendship Amateur Rowing Club at New Way Ghaut. Many fishing boats and pleasure fishing boats are docked in the inner harbour. As well as full-time fishing vessels, there are numerous party fishing craft taking both 2-3 day trips, as well as a day, and half day fishing trips. Higher upriver is Whitby Marina, where many visiting yachts, locally owned yachts and motor vessels are berthed.

WHITBY | A walk around the streets of Whitby ????
WHITBY | A walk around the streets of Whitby
We take a walk through the streets of the North Yorkshire seaside town of WHITBY, famous for it's Abbey, it's Harbour and it's shopping.
Whitby is famous for many things: it's a traditional seaside resort with Blue Flag beaches, and has some of the best fish and chips around. But there's so much more to discover here...
Fish and chips and ice cream; history and culture; vampires and Goths: it’s all on offer at Whitby, one of the North East coast’s best-loved seaside towns.
With Blue Flag beaches and many attractions, including the world-famous steam North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Whitby is the perfect base for a family holiday. But it doesn’t end there. Whitby wallows in history, including fishing, the jet industry (did you know that it’s still the best place in the world to find the gleaming black gemstone so beloved by the Victorians?), Captain Cook (who was born nearby, and whose famous ship the Endeavour was Whitby-built) and whaling. And its literary connections – Bram Stoker’s famous Dracula features the town, with the vampire first coming ashore here from Transylvania in the guise of a black dog – have inspired the world famous Goth Festival, which now takes place twice a year, in the spring and around Hallowe’en
