Bird Feeding In Boquete, Panama
Boquete, Panama is a bird lovers paradise. One way to have Boquete's birds flocking to you, is to slice open a brightly colored fruit. Watch the video to view a demonstration.
Boquete: The Valley of Flowers and Eternal Spring
The town of Boquete, nestled in a valley in the Province of Chiriqui, has a perfect, spring-like climate year round. This historically agricultural community has had a new wave of foreign immigrants in recent years; people drawn by the climate, the people, lifestyle, cost and quality of life. Boquete is 38 km. from Chiriqui's capital of David, a peasant day trip from the Caribbean Coast and 40 km from the Pacific Coast. There are daily flights from Panama City to David and back to Panama City. Activities in Boquete often revolve around nature. This area is know as the land of coffee and flowers. Birding, hiking, cycling, fishing, river-rafting, horse-back riding, jogging, gardening, can all be enjoyed here year round.Bilingual medical services are available in Boquete as well as in David's two private hospitals. Costs of health care are considerably lower than in the U.S. and, if needed, one can usually see a specialist within days of a referral. Medical insurance, if desired, may be obtained via international insurance carriers or locally at reasonable rates. Recent developments have rendered Panama as a country full of great opportunities.
In a summer night a light, cold drizzle that locals call bajareque reminds us that we are in Boquete, a valley of serenity, beauty and harmony. No wonder why it was chosen as one of the top three places to retire in the world. Known as the Valley of the Flowers and the Eternal Spring, it is located in the highlands of the province of Chiriqui in Panama covering about 350 square miles ofexotic and colorful flora and fauna. Smiling faces everywhere with blond or black hair, green or brown eyes, Viking or Spanish names...Boquete´s population of around 15,000 people shows us very clearly its multicultural roots. Founded in April 11, 1911 by Europeans, Americans, and Native descendents, this charming town is surrounded by exuberant spots that stimulate our senses to discover secret paths, sing the sound of a waterfall, or make extreme decisions...hike the Baru Volcano, drink a strong coffee awarded worldwide, and stay here forever...! On the sheer mountains that surround the valley live the Gnobe Bugles , the indigenous ethnic group, also known as Guaymies. This beauty and charm is the inspiration for the Fair of the Flowers & the Coffee to celebrate Boquete's unique charm and name it the Garden of the Americas.
Here is the land of one of the best coffee produced in the world. You can smell the aroma of coffee everywhere...and it is a must to taste its different flavours while you enjoy a Coffee Tour...Maybe you are more extreme...What about river rafting in Chiriqui River (a category 4). Boquete is this and much more...
Panama's highest peak and only volcano at 3,478 meters offers sweeping ocean views and spectacular cloud forests from its summit. Nearest Tourist Attractions: Pre-Hispanic Indian petroglifos , Thermal Waters, Chiriqui River, Caldera-Gualaca Route , In Boquete (around 12 km from the project) Los Quetzales Trail, Baru Volcano National Park, River Rafting, Canopy, Bird watching, Coffee Tours, Flowers and Coffee Fair, Orchids Fair, Commercial and Banking Center.

Finca la Mula - Part 1
This 13 minute video shows the coffee farm that I started in 2006 in the province of Chiriqui, Panama mear the town of Portrerillos and not too far from the beautiful town of Boquete.
Finca La Mula, located on the slopes of the majestic vulcano Volcan Baru lies at 1700 to 1800 meters and is planted with about 8,000 Geisha coffee trees. The development and planting was done with the fantastic help of my friend Graciano Cruz and a team of fifteen Ngöbe Bugle indigenous coffee workers who worked for at least six weeks to carry in the trees and plant these ladies on the slopes of Finca La Mula.

Caldera Hot Springs, and Petroglyphs Panama
Gary and I went for another ride today that took us to some cool petroglyphs, and nice hot springs. It was a really nice day of riding, it never poured rain while we were on the bikes, but there were a few light showers to keep us cool.
The rain came down pretty hard while we were at the hot springs, but the cool water falling from the sky really made the hot springs more enjoyable. It rains a lot in the Boquete area and we decided that visiting the hot springs on a rainy day is the perfect activity.
I've always been a bit interested in ancient people. We spent some time wandering around the large stone with carvings in it making guesses as to what each one might represent. Part of me thinks it may have been just some kids screwing around with a rock and the pictures don't mean anything.

La Montana y el Valle Coffee Estate Inn
Visit La Montana y el Valle Coffee Estate Inn in Boquete, Panama. We spent five days there birding, eating, hiking and learning about coffee. Jane and Barry are amazing hosts and great chefs. The inn, views, coffee and meals were fabulous. Check them out at You won't regret it.
Birds of Panama
A collection of some of the 978 species of birds that inhabit the Isthmus of Panama. These photos have been taken from 2005 to 2012 by me using several photo equipment throughout the years, but here lately with a Nikon D300 and Sigma 150-500mm Zoom Lens. If you want to see some of these and much more of my other photos please visit my port at:
Panama bird with an unusual call
An unidentified bird in El Valle, Panama with an unusual call (no chirp or tweet, more of a gurgling sound). poor quality video due to no image stabilization at a long distance. I hope someone can identify the type of bird. It comes to the same tree as high as it can get every night at sunset facing east.
World's BEST coffee? Panama City / VLOG 076
Arrived in Panama City for a few days. More of stop off as the flight was cheaper to Panama City than direct to Columbia.
We saw some of the sights but I first had to try the proclaimed, worlds best coffee. Its called Geisha Coffee and is grown near Panama City.
It was nice coffee but I wouldn't exactly say it was the worlds best coffee. You know how much I love coffee but I still think Ozone in London serves up the best one.
Either way it was nice to visit Panama City and experience Geisha coffee. The old town, Casco Veijo and its beautiful architecture.

New Species: Canada Warbler Flits Past Panama Fruit Feeder Cam – Oct. 18, 2018
This Canada Warbler's pit stop on a branch behind the feeder platform marks another new species for the Panama Fruit Feeder cam. As their name implies, these tiny wood-warblers mostly breed in boreal Canada and the northeastern U.S., but in late summer and fall, they embark on long distance migrations south to the overwintering grounds in northern South America.
Watch LIVE 24/7 with highlights and viewing resources at
The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is a collaboration between the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Canopy Family.
*******************************
About the Site
The Panama Fruit Feeder Cam is located on the grounds of the Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antón, Panama. This site is just over 2,000 ft above sea level in the low mountains of Cerro Gaital, with a mild springtime climate year-round. A small stream called Rio Guayabo runs past the feeders in the background, and the lush landscaping of the Canopy Lodge grounds grade into the forested slopes around them. The feeding table is around 40 feet from the main lodge, and is one of several feeders provisioned throughout the day so that guests to the lodge are greeted to spectacular views of many of the common birds found in this ecosystem.
About the Canopy Lodge
The Canopy Lodge is a full service lodge specializing in nature tourism with a focus on birds. It is about 60 miles west of Panama City in the picturesque village of El Valle de Antón, right in the center of the gigantic crater of an extinct volcano. This is the largest inhabited crater in the Western Hemisphere and second only to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It is surrounded by the Cerro Gaital Natural Monument.
Canopy Lodge is one of a series of three ecotourism ventures developed by the Canopy Family. The first, Canopy Tower, involved transforming a former U.S. radar station overlooking the Panama Canal in Soberanía National Park into a unique birding lodge embedded in the canopy of the surrounding forest. Their newest property, Canopy Camp, offers a taste of some of the wildest lowland rainforest in Panama in the Darién region.

The La Amistad International Park, or in Spanish Parque Internacional La Amistad, formerly the La Amistad National Park, is an Transboundary Protected Area in Latin America, management of which is shared between Costa Rica (Caribbean La Amistad and Pacific La Amistad Conservation Areas) and Panama, following a recommendation by UNESCO after the park's inclusion in the World Heritage Site list.

It covers 401,000 ha of tropical forest and is the largest nature reserve in Central America and together with a 15 km buffer zone it represents a major biodiversity resource at a regional (ca 20% of the regions species diversity) and global level.
