My Life in Russia: Fabrizio Fatucci, the famous Italian chef started a business in Russia
Fabrizio Fatucci is one of Italy’s most famous chefs in Russia, where he’s lived for the last 14 years. After working in Moscow and St. Petersburg’s finest restaurants he moved to Sochi to realize his dream of starting a business.
Fabrizio takes us on a guide through his favorite city Sochi, which boasts stunning nature from the mountains to the sea.
We visit Skypark to witness the highest bungee jump in Europe (from one of the world’s longest bridges), the popular Rosa Khutor Ski Resort, and we even jump aboard a Hobie Cat catamaran in the Black Sea and get up close and personal with dolphins!
And what would a visit to Russia be without relaxing in the banya, where Fabrizio shows us the ritual of steaming in the bathrooms before plunging into ice-cold water.

Art and immortality explored in Russia's industrial heartland
(13 Sep 2019) LEAD IN:
Immortality, death and our relationship with technology are the central themes behind one of Russia's major contemporary art exhibitions.
As it's name suggests the Ural Industrial Biennale is set in an old factory complex surrounded by razor wire fences.
STORY-LINE:
These mechanical clocks are part of the art installation Clockwise.
Three hundred and sixty basic metal clocks sit on curved wall imitating the 360-degree curve of the globe.
Each clock shows a different time, each is exactly 4 minutes ahead, or behind the other.
The author of the project Cristina Lucas, explains: Being in the interior of this installation is where you can get the sense of having the thing that... I think it represents better the contemporary time which is the time that is never ending present, where there is no future, no past, all the links are connected to this very moment.
The theme of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennale is Immortality.
The main exhibition is named For a Multitude of Futures: Overcome the Limits of Immortality.
Curator of the Biennale Xiaoyu Weng suggests exploring the topic through the relationship between man and technology and attitudes towards death in different cultures.
She says: There are many different culture that have many different ways of understanding death and celebrating death, and also understanding what does it mean to be a human, to be a human means life and death comes together, as a cycle. So the exhibition is also to propose that we should overcome the limits of immortality.
A possible future is suggested by Danilo Correale in his installation Reverie imagining how society could be without work.
The first question that people always ask, especially in the United States, but also in Italy, it's What do you do? And 'what do you do' defines who you are. I criticise this kind of thing and I really think we reached this point in history where technology, automation could actually liberate us or liberate a certain number of people from very tedious work.
The Biennale explores the heritage of the Ural region, it's Russia's major industrial centre, filled with lots working and obsolete engineering and heavy metal plants.
Alisa Prudnikova, Commissioner of the Biennale, says: Our main difference from all the other biennales around the globe is that we are an industrial biennale.
For us industrialism and factory is not just a place of locating the projects, this is an important philosophy, the whole, as we say now at this project, cosmology, this is such an umbrella under which all biennale statements are made.
For the first time the art installations, performances and visual presentations are shown to public in the interiors of a fully operating factory — the Ural Optic and Mechanical Plant.
Owned by the Russian State Corporation Rostekh, the Ural Optic and Mechanical Plant is a enterprise involved in both civil and military production.
A special entrance was put in place to allow visitors to the floors dedicated to the exhibition, while the rest of the building continues to operate as normal.
General Director of the plant, Anatoly Sludnykh, believes that art and technology are interconnected.
Seventy six artists from 25 countries have works on show here.
The industrial topic is reflected in the art too with some of them were created especially for the Biennale.
This involved talking to current and former employees of the factories, studying archive documents and photographs.
Visitor Ashlynd Wilson is excited too.

Michael and Inessa Garmash Art
Michael & Inessa Garmash...
Michael Garmash was born in 1969 in Lugansk, Ukraine. He began painting at the age of three and by six started his formal education at the Lugansk Youth Creative Center. His works were sent by his teachers to a variety of Exhibitions in Ukraine, Russia, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Michael received first prizes at several juried Exhibitions, including the Lugansk Regional Juried Exhibition-1977 (Best Poster), the Czechoslovakian International Youth Competition-1978, and the Hungarian International Art Competition of Circus Related Art-1978.
In 1987, he graduated valedictorian from the Lugansk State Fine Art College and started teaching there the following year. From 1989 to 1991, he served in the army and in 1992 began studying at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art. Michael graduated from this prestigious school five years later at the head of his class.
During his student years, Michael started exhibiting in France, at galleries in such cities as Paris, St. Etienne, Avignon, Lion and Marcel. Michael also took part in the annual Exhibitions in St. Petersburg, Russia. In addition to painting, Michael has also excelled in the creation of stained-glass windows and received an honorary medal for his work in the Suvorov Military Museum in St. Petersburg.
Inessa Kitaichik was born in 1972 in Lipetsk, Russia. Since early childhood she has excelled in ballet, gymnastics and music. Inessa attended classes in all three disciplines and, after graduating from music and ballet school, entered the Lugansk Fine Art School at age fifteen. At seventeen she was accepted as that year's best undergraduate to the Lugansk State Fine Art School.
AN ART LOVE STORY
During his stint in the army, Michael returned to his former school on a two-week vacation. The last day of his visit he met Inessa at a bus station; the next day Michael didn't return to his division. Inessa woke that day to her image painted all around the city surrounding her house-on the road, on the walls of buildings and the walls of her apartment staircase. Michael had spent the night painting; he was arrested first by the city police, then handed over to the army MP's, but he was not punished. (Even military personnel can sympathize with true love!) One year later, Michael and Inessa returned to the same bus station. Michael hung a bouquet of flowers on the station sign to commemorate the place where they met; the beginning of their at-first-glance love story.
In similar spontaneous fashion, the two began painting together. Several years after their marriage, Michael began a painting of their daughter for a project at school. However, their two-year old found the painting during his absence and painted her own version of the subject. Inessa, not wanting Michael to be upset, fixed the painting, packed it up and gave it to him to submit. Michael handed the painting over for review and was told it was his best work ever. He was surprised to see the new painting and immediately recognized his wife's hand.
Since then, Michael and Inessa have worked together creating paintings, stained-glass windows, mosaics and drawings. They have exhibited in Sweden, France, Russia, Ukraine, Belgium and Finland. They continue working with their daughter Polina as a model and occasionally include themselves in their compositions.

Syria: Russian military artists look for inspiration in the city of Palmyra
A group of Russian artists from the Grekov Studio of Military Artists visited the Syrian city of Palmyra on Monday, hoping to find inspiration in its history.
SOT, Andrei Sibirsky, painter (Russian): It is our job to depict the courage of our soldiers and officers, the reality of combat operations and military life.
SOT, Andrei Sibirsky, painter (Russian): And the important thing is not just our visit, but the fact that later it changes into pictures, pictures that last for centuries.

LOVE STORY DIN LUMEA ARTEI
Michael Garmash s-a nascut in 1969 in Lugansk, Ukraine.
In 1987, a terminat Lugansk State Fine Art College Magna cum Laudae si a inceput sa predea din anul urmator. Din 1989 pana in 1991, a facut armata si in 1992 a inceput sa studieze la St. Petersburg Academy of Art.
In acelasi an a aparut pe prima pagina din revista lunara f citita Soviet Union.
Michael a exppus deasemenea in Expozitii anuale din St. Petersburg, Russia. In afara de pictura, Michael a excelat deasemenea in crearea de vitralii si a primit omedalie onorifica pt munca lui din Suvorov Military Museum in St. Petersburg.
Inessa Kitaichik s-a nascut in 1972 in Lipetsk, Russia. Inca de mica a excelat in balet, gimnastica si muzica.
In scurt timp s-au casatorit.
Cei doi au inceput sa picteze impreuna tot in mod spontan.

Michael & Inessa Garmash
MIKHAIL AND INESSA GARMASH Husband and Wife Team, Romantic Impressionists
It all started in the little town of Lugansk in Ukraine, 1969. An early starter, Mr. Garmash began painting at the age of three. By age six he started his formal education at the Lugansk Youth Creative Center. Recognizing rare, natural talent, his teachers sent his works to a variety of exhibitions in the then Soviet Union.
An award winning artist from the onset, Mr. Garmash received first prizes at several juried exhibitions, including the Lugansk Regional Juried Exhibition—1977 (Best Poster), the Czechoslovakian International Youth Competition—1978, and the Hungarian International Art Competition of Circus Related Art—1978.
After graduating, valedictorian from the Lugansk State Fine Art College in 1987, Mr. Garmash began teaching there the following year. From 1989 to 1991, he served in the army (when he met his wife and partner, Inessa) and in 1992 began studying at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art. Prior to graduating at the top of his prestigious school’s class, Mr. Garmash exhibited in France at galleries in cities such as Paris, St. Etienne, Avignon, Lion and Marcel.
Mr. Garmash also took part in the annual Exhibitions in St. Petersburg, Russia. In addition to painting, he has also excelled in the creation of stained-glass windows and received an honorary medal for his work in the Suvorov Military Museum in St. Petersburg.
Ms. Garmash, born Inessa Kitaichik in 1972 Lipetsk, Russia, has excelled in the arts since early childhood. Proving herself in ballet, gymnastics and music, Ms. Garmash attended classes in all three disciplines and, after graduating from music and ballet school, entered the Lugansk Fine Art School at age fifteen. At seventeen she was accepted as that year's best undergraduate to the Lugansk State Fine Art School.
Today, Mr. and Mrs. Garmash are considered two of the finest Romantic Impressionists of our day. Their incredible talent is only matched by their love and career stories. In similar fashion to the determination of his artwork, Mr. Garmash courted his future wife, after seeing her for but a moment, by painting her image all over her hometown while she slept. She immediately recognized the passion with which this man cared so dearly and married him shortly thereafter.
The Garmashs began their artistic collaboration in much the same way. Several years after their marriage, Mr. Garmash began a painting of their two-year old daughter, Polina, for a project at school. However, Polina found the painting during her father’s absence and decided to embark upon her own artistic career. Ms. Garmash, after seeing what her daughter had done and not wanting her husband to be upset, fixed the painting using her own training, packed it up and gave it to him for submission. Mr. Garmash submitted the painting for review and was praised for completing his best work ever. He was surprised to see the new painting and immediately recognized his wife's hand. They have painted together every since.
