Walking Around the Taipei Expo Park + Taipei Storey House (Taipei, Taiwan)
The Taipei Expo Park / 花博公園 is a multifunctional park in Zhongshan District converted from the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo. The park comprises three typical park areas (Yuanshan, Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Xinsheng) while offering venues for the hosting of various events in the former Flora Expo’s pavilions. Among the iconic Flora Expo displays, still available, on the parks’ premises, mostly featuring perennial flowering/foliage plants and turfs, are the 3-dimensional Green Walls, Flower Walls, “Flora Rainbows”, Special Exhibition Area, Flower Landscape, Rare Flowers & Plants Area, and Fruit Tree Area.

I find the history and relationships Taiwan has had with nations like the United States and Japan absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately due to the development and rapid growth particularly of Taipei and New Taipei City many buildings that were apart of the history of America's years of on island support are gone. The old U.S. Embassy has been replaced by the National Taxation Bureau. The U.S. Taiwan Defence Command is now the location of The Taipei Fine Arts Museum. I sense though that there are still places out there to be discovered and shared.

In Zhongshan District, a vibrant area of Taipei where many luxury hotels are located sits an iconic building of the neighborhood with a past life deep rooted in American history.
When it was first built the former U.S. Ambassador’s residence was originally used as the U.S. Embassy during the Japanese colonial period of Taiwan. At the time of it’s completion in 1926 it was considered one of the most beautiful buildings on the island. The Western design with square floor plan and Grecian columns originally served as an administrative office as well as living quarters for the ambassadors and their families. When the United States established a new embassy after WWII this became the residence of the ambassador.
I liked that this building has been repurposed as a venue for films and a meeting place rather than a museum. I felt sitting in it’s converted atrium and enjoying the surroundings in an unhurried manner had alot more value as an experience then a walk through a building with roped off areas. Not only did I have a great time hanging out where a U.S. President once stayed I had a pretty interesting selection of movies I could choose to watch, from a documentary about an American photographer turned Buddhist monk to a Japanese man living with a bunch of cats.
In 1950 the United States started deploying U.S. military personnel to the island to aid the Republic of China with training, support, and economic relief. Special Western style housing was built for personnel including this almost 14 hectare site in the Yangmingshan area of Taipei City where many houses still remain today.
Some of the houses have been leased from the Bank of Taiwan and are occupied by local politicians, artists, and personnel of the American Institute in Taiwan, the defacto U.S. Embassy in Taipei. But it appears many are cafes.
The most recent building of the U.S. Taiwan Defense Command era to spring back to life is the Yangminghsan U.S. Military Club, now a Cultural and Creative Park with American style restaurants. This was also the home of the Grass Mountain Teen Club for personnel families. The Bank of Taiwan and a local tech company have invested over $3 million dollars in the renovation which includes a vinyl listening room and museum. Yes they passed the taste test and there are some beautiful grounds and a rooftop deck to enjoy the spectacular Yangminghan Park setting.
Getting To The Yangmingshan U.S. Military Housing and Brickyard 33 1/3:Take the Red Line MRT to Shilin, leave Exit 1 and walk to Zhongzheng Rd. Catch Bus #5 to Yangmingshan. The ride will be approximately 20 minutes before you'll get off at the Shanzihou Police Station stop. Walk across the street to Kaixuan Rd. You'll see signs for Brickyard, just follow those and you'll arrive there in about 5 minutes. This is also where you'll see many of the military houses that are either private, cafes, or empty.
Getting To the Former U.S. Amassador's Residence(SPOT Taipei Film House) take the MRT Red Line to Zhongshan Station. Walk West along Nanjing East Road to Zongshan Rd. North. turn left and walk to #18.

In Taipei Main Station Underground Mall, officially known as Taipei City Mall, you can find 1-mile of Taipei shopping places. Extending from Taipei Main Station to Beimen station at 0.5 miles (850m) so if you take a lap through the mall it’s 1-mile (1700m) of cheap shopping in Taipei.

Hours: 11AM-9:30PM Daily
Taipei Main Station Underground Mall runs from Taipei Main Station to Beimen Station. It’s accessible from the street level along Zhengzhou Road (26 entrances/exits), Taipei Main Station, Beimen Station and the airport MRT station.
You can access this shopping area in Taipei as early as 8am. The lights aren’t actually on until 9am and most stores open at 11am. Official closing hours are at 9:30pm, but most shops begin to shut down at 8pm.
How do I know this? Because you can find me and a few elderly people walking around this Taipei shopping mall for exercise in the mornings.
If you’re looking to get to Taipei City Mall with a little less chaos, you can enter from the Beimen station side. Just get to the Beimen station and from there follow signs for the Airport MRT. Along the way on your left side, you’ll see several entrances to Taipei City Mall
Getting To The Taipei Underground Mall From Taipei Main Station Terminal
Head underground towards the Taipei High Speed Rail (THSR). Along the way you’ll see a sign for “Taipei City Mall” and follow the signs. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the terminal level.
Don’t be confused by the other malls through.
Getting To The Taipei Station Underground Mall From Beimen Station
The underground mall in Taipei is so big that it spans the length of a subway stop (850 meters). To experience the best of Taiwan shopping, start at Beimen station. It’s less crowded and it will be easier to find the underground mall Taipei.

The History of Memorial Hall
To commemorate the national founding father Dr. Sun Yat-Sen’s and his unparalleled morality, and revolutionary conducts and to promote Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's doctrine, in 1964 the Republic government began drafting the building of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, which would not only served to provide a place of remembrance for all to emulate the national founding father, but would also encompassed the functions of cultural and artistic education, leisurely recreation and academic research.
In 1965, then President Chiang Kai Shek personally presided over the foundation laying ceremonies. The open solicitation of architectural drawings began the following year, and renowned architect Wang Da-hung’s design drawings were chosen, but were later modified to reinforce the exterior with elements of Chinese architecture as instructed by the President Chiang. On May 16, 1972, the main construction was completed, and an inaugural ceremony was staged. The majestic, solemn main structure, set against the Chung Shan Park flanked with green flaw and esthetical plumage, not only rose to become a crown jewel in Taipei’s eastern district but also became a brand-new facet for local arts and culture .
Previously under the jurisdiction of the Taipei Municipal Government, the memorial hall was reorganized under the Ministry of Education in July 1986, and merged with the Chung Shan Hall in Yangmingshan. Its name was also changed from “Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Administration Office” to “National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall”. In 2012 due to the reorganization of the ROC Government, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall came under the Ministry of Culture. When first inaugurated, the memorial hall was primarily used for exhibiting Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary artifacts, as well as hosting some exhibitions and performances. It currently serves as a multi-functional, social educational and cultural center. It houses an internationally renowned national performance hall, expansive elegant and aesthetic exhibition venues that measure several thousands of square feet, a projection room with an innovative setup, lecture hall, the Chung Shan lecture hall, professional library with more than 40,000 books, as well as the tranquil and Emerald Pond exhibition/performance area and Chung Shan Park..
The development and promotion of the memorial hall’s activities and events have focusrd on emulating Mr. Chung Shan’s paramount ideology of “Greater Love”, “The World is for All People”, and “The Purpose of Life Is to Serve Others” to foster greater respect and emulation of the national founding father among the general public. The grand vision of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall has laid an impressive foundation over these years, and excelled during the “Development period” thanks to its enterprising directors and the prospering period, all of which contributed to gimproving the administration of memorial hall with a global and local cultural exchange Furthermore, the hall has moved toward the objectives of practical and prevalent lifetime learning, and professional, practical firmware facilities, in order to integrate the Chung Shan spirit and the traditional culture for reinvigorating and rediscovering the Chinese culture.

The Miniatures Museum of Taiwan (袖珍博物館 / 袖珍博物馆) is the first museum to collect miniatures in Asia. The museum was founded on March 28, 1997 by Mr Lin Wen-ren and his wife. It is located in Zhongshan District, Taipei, Taiwan.
Mr. Lin and his wife enjoyed buying little houses and toy cars for their children while traveling for business purposes. While in Netherlands, they discovered miniature art and were deeply attracted. They began buying accessories, furniture, and assembled miniature houses. At the same time, the couple participated in auctions and joined international miniature art associations. They began planning their museum in 1993.
The logo of the museum comes from Rose Mansion, one of the museum's most famed collections. Chosen as one of ten most significant miniature art works of America in twenty-five years, Rose Mansion consumed Dr. Reginald Twigg almost four years to complete. After his elaborate research and study the once famous architecture has been brought back to life as you now see in the museum. The logo represents delicate, real, dream-like, romantic, and historically correct nature of miniature arts.
Miniatures originated within German palaces of the 16th century as tools for teaching aristocratic children, but appreciation for the art form did not pass to other parts of the world until much later during the 19th century. Today, miniature masterpieces are found throughout Europe and North America covering subjects from complete settings to intricate accessories of tableware and wall paintings. Reproductions tend to follow a 1:12 standard scale of accuracy, or half scale at 1:24.
Taiwan's museum is the first to specialize in contemporary miniatures and features two formats: doll house and room box with cut away views. It is ranked second in the world, with a collection of nearly 200 items. Founder Lin Wen-Ren and his wife sourcing each item while traveling in Europe and the United States.

Zhongshan Hall / 中山堂 is a historical building which originally functioned as the Taipei (Taihoku) City Public Auditorium (public hall). It is located at 98 Yanping South Road in the Ximending neighborhood of the Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan. In 1992, it was recognized by the government as a historic site.
As a tribute to mark the ascension of the Japanese Emperor Showa in 1928, the Japanese government in Taiwan dismantled the Qing dynasty government office in Taipeh (Taipei) and began the plan to erect the Taihoku City Public Auditorium (臺北公會堂? Taihoku Kōkaidō). Construction began on November 23, 1932 and completed on November 26, 1936. Ide Kaoru, the main architect serving as Chief Engineer in Taiwan under the Japanese government, used the full cost of 980,000 Yen and 94,500 workers.
The four-story steel structure of the building was designed to be fire-resistant and to withstand severe earthquakes and typhoons. The original building was faced in light green tile to make it less visible to aerial bombers. The windows are adorned with classical designs in a Spanish Islamic style.[1] With 44,179 square feet (4,104.4 m2) for the ground floor, the total area of the City Public Auditorium was 113,750 square feet (10,568 m2), making it the fourth largest city Public Auditorium in Japan at that time. It was smaller than only the City Public Halls of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.
The hall has several auditoriums currently used for arts performances such as chamber and orchestral music, traditional Chinese music, voice/choir, opera, dance, ceremonies, and exhibits.
- Zhongzheng Auditorium: This Grand Meeting Hall was the largest indoor meeting venue at the time, seating over 2,000 people since it was created on December 27, 1936. After World War II, it was the only concert hall in Taipei. Until Zhongshan Hall in Yang-Ming Shan was completed in 1993, the National Assembly leased this hall. It is historic as Chiang Kai-Shek announced he would take office again and held his inaugural ceremony here.
- Guangfu Auditorium - The Grand Ballroom: Guangfu Auditorium is a two-story high rise hall with Islamic design and holds 500 people seated or 1,000 people unseated. This auditorium is historic as on October 25, 1945 it was the venue for the surrender ceremony of the Taiwan District of China warzone. The Japan and Taiwan governments signed the peace treaty here and the surrender of Japan was accepted here as well.
- Fortress Auditorium: In addition to indoor meeting areas, Zhongshan Hall was designed with a spacious plaza for outdoor activities. Speakers can stand on the second floor east balcony when addressing the audience on the plaza. Chiang Kai-Shek made four inaugural speeches here.

지난 영상은 중산의 맛집, 카페, Art 공원을 다녀온 이야기였어요. 이번 영상은 이후 갔던 타이페이 필름 하우스 SPOT과 중산 카페 거리를 간 이야기에요. 영화를 좋아해 SPOT이 무척 좋았어요. 영화를 좋아하는 분들이라면 대만의 예술 영화 및 문화 공간인 SPOT을 꼭 방문하시길 추천해요. 카페 거리 또한 예뻤고 디자인샵, 카페 등이 많았어요. 예쁜 길이었어요. 가로수길 같은 느낌.
다음 영상엔 국립 타이완 박물관과 중정 기념관에 갔던 이야기를 담을 계획이에요. 소소했던 여행 이야기. 앞으로 여행 이야길 더 담을 예정이에요. 구독과 좋아요 부탁드려요????

Hi????This is a Taiwan travel story. It's the fourth travel vlog.????
The last video was about Zhongshan's local shops, cafes, restaurants and Art Park. This video is about the Taipei Film House SPOT and cafes, design shops on the Zhongshan Cafe Street. I like movies so SPOT was good. If you like movies, I recommend you to visit SPOT which is an arts and culture space in Taipei. The cafe street was pretty, and there were lots of design shops and cafes. I feel like Garosoo-Road in Korea.
On the next day I went to the National Taiwan Museum and the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. So I plan to include them in the next video. Thanks for watching my vlog!???????? Have a good day-!???? I will show you more Taipei travel, so please send me more subscriptions and interests.????

Taipei is the national capital of Taiwan. It is in the northern part of the island in a basin between the Yangming Mountains and the Central Mountains. It is, with 2.6 million inhabitants, the fourth largest administrative area of Taiwan, after New Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung. However, the Greater Taipei metropolitan area, which encompasses the central Taipei City along with the surrounding New Taipei City and Keelung, represents the largest urban cluster in Taiwan with nearly 7 million people.
Taipei City administers twelve districts :
Wanhua (萬華區)
Wanhua is the oldest district of Taipei, home to many historic buildings, such as the Longshan Temple and the Red House Theater. Ximending is the harajuku of Taipei, a shopping neighbourhood centred around teenager fashion, Japanese culture and subcultures.
Datong (大同區)
Datong is one of the oldest inhabited areas in what is now Taipei. It used to be the city's commercial centre, but has lost relevance as the economic centre shifted southeast to Zhongzheng, Daan and Xinyi. It is now most known for Dihua Street with its Japanese colonial and Qing dynasty architecture and Chinese herbal and dry goods shops.
Zhongzheng (中正區)
The political center of Taiwan and the location of the Presidential Office and important government ministries. Its prime tourist attractions is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.
Zhongshan (中山區)
Zhongshan has riverside parks, the Martyrs Shrine, the Fine Arts Museum.
Daan (大安區)
Daan is a modern commercial district. The northern part of Daan is known as Taipei's East District, offering department stores, plenty of fashion boutiques, lounge bars, and atmospheric restaurants and some of the most expensive real estate in the city. The southern part of Daan is home to National Taiwan University and National Taiwan Normal University.
Xinyi (信義區)
Xinyi is the modern financial district of Taipei and home to the Taipei 101, the World Trade Center and the International Convention Center. It is the newest part of the city with many shopping malls.
Songshan (松山區)
Many firms and financial institutions in this neighbourhood, which is directly north of the East District. Raohe Street Night Market is one of the oldest of Taipei's famous street markets.
Beitou (北投區)
This district is famous for hot springs and the Yangmingshan National Park.
Shilin (士林區)
A traditional area of the city that is known for its excellent museums, including the world famous National Palace Museum. Shilin is also home to one of Taipei's largest nightmarket and the expat enclave of Tianmu.
Neihu (內湖區)
Located in the north-east of the city, Neihu is a hub of IT industry in Taipei, home to many large shopping centers, and a great place for hiking and 'templing'. A mouth-watering juxtaposition of local Taiwanese culture and modern shopping malls and restraunts. A definite must-visit, Neihu is largely a secret to the tourist world, unfortunately.
Nangang (南港區)
Neighboring Neihu, this district is known for its IT industrial complexes and is also home to one of Taiwan's leading academic institution - Academia Sinica.
Wenshan (文山區)
This district comprises the two traditional districts of Muzha and Jingmei. It is in the south of the city and associated with its many tea plantations and also for being the location of Taipei Zoo.
