The amazing Finke Gorge National Park. A gorgeous 21km drive to a very good National Park camping ground. Surrounded by red cliffs as you drive down what is the Finke River this place is definately worth visiting!

After our Madigan Crossing, we had 8 days to spend around Alice Springs before we would return through the Simpson Desert Cross Country on our way back. We decided to pay a Visit to Ayers Rock (Uluru) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) as hadn't seen them. When headed into the MacDonell Ranges towards the Fink Gorge NP to follow the Fink Gorge and River South to East via Boggy Hole. This 4wd only track is one of the few options around that area to get in low range and do some 4w driving as most areas, which are still incredibly beautiful, are very commercialised and can be visited via 2wd. We also paid a visit to the Palm Valley, Hermannsburg and its Historic Precinct, Two Mile Creek Camping area and the Ellery Big Hole join me for this Adventure...

Driving through the track was all off road with some sections in low range as you near the valley, quite a simple drive in. Surrounded by amazing wildlife, the palms along the valley were amazing to see. Camping spot was great with amazing sunset views to finish the day.

Finke Gorge at Sunset
This time worn land is very beautiful to visit. Access is via the river bed over rough roads. 4WD is needed. The Finke River is ancient. Scientists have determined that the Finke is the oldest existing river on Earth - flowing through the same course for 100 million years... The sand in the area is a rich ruby red colour and the rock formations are intriguing.
