Te Anau and Milford Sound | Day Trip | New Zealand (HD)
Te Anau is a town on the South Island of New Zealand (172 KM from Queenstown). It’s known as a gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Te Anau Caves feature a limestone grotto of Glowworms and an underground waterfall (Real Journeys run 1 hour tour to Glow-warm cave).
Milford Sound is an inlet (sound) in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island (285 KM from Queenstown and 118 KM from Te Anau). The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is very beautiful. Eglington Valley, Mirror Lake, The Divide, Monkey Creek, Homer Tunnel are few of the attractions on the way to Milford Sound. Beautiful mountain ranges with glacier at the peak are both side of the road.
The beauty of Milford Sound doesn’t have any word. This is my little afford to showcase the trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound via Te Anau.

-- About this video --
Today we are finally leaving Te Anau and taking the Milford Sound road to Milford Sound. We’re taking a whole day to do this because there are so many awesome things to do on the Milford Road along the way!
We hit State Highway 94, the Milford Road between Te Anau and Milford Sound. First stop for us is the Eglinton Valley – a 2km wide valley with unreal scenery. There’s plenty of space to park up safely and embrace! Next, we stop at the Mirror Lakes, a short walk to a super reflective lake.
There are many safe viewing areas and lookouts to pull up to along the Milford Sound Road to see the Hollyford Valley and array of waterfalls on a rainy day like today.
Next we stop at the famous Homer Tunnel carved right through the granite of the Darren Mountains. It took around 20 years to build and is the start of our descent into Milford Sound. We arrive in an amazing valley of glacier-carved mountains and Fiordland National Park forest. This has to be one of the best roads in New Zealand.
Tonight we are staying in one of the only accommodation in Milford Sound, The Milford Sound Loge.
So what do you think of the Road to Milford Sound? Do you think it’s worth taking your time on? LUK in the comments!

Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound, that is the question... // Trip to Fiordland, New Zealand
Jump to 11:48 to hear my conclusion and tips on both Sounds! Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound in Fiordland National Park are both unbelievably gorgeous but if you only have time/money to visit only one, then there was one clear winner in my mind.
If you want to have the perfect Milford Sound experience, then I recommend cruise with the coach service from Queenstown/Te Anau They have small groups and personal approach! Our coach driver from Fiordland Tours was just the best :)
Our Doubtful Sound tour provider was Real Journeys Adventures ( they were good, too. They are the cheapest but be warned - the buses, boats and groups are big so it can feel quite crowded.
WHY IS IT CALLED SOUND?
Both Doubtful and Milford Sound are actually a fjords and it's wrongly named because the first Europeans discovering New Zealand who named them didn't know really the difference between a sound and a fjord (well, neither did I...). A sound is a result of the sea’s invasion on a river valley to form an extended inlet characterized by sloping valley hillsides which sink to current sea level and deeper under water. A fjord is a narrow steep-sided valley filled with seawater. It is formed by a glacier which washes away the bedrock of an area as it tumbles down. Smarter every day, eh! ????

Kayaking in Milford Sound – New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – Backpacker Guide New Zealand
Day 148: Today we are kayaking in Milford Sound with Rosco’s Milford Kayaks! Join us to see what it’s like to kayak in Milford Sound as we do an early morning kayaking tour in Milford Sound. It’s part of our 365 Days: 365 Activities!

-- About this video --
Yesterday, you saw us cruise in Milford Sound. Now today, see what it’s like to kayak in Milford Sound! It’s the more active and adventurous way to explore Milford Sound!
We head down to the Roscos Milford Kayaks base where we get kitted out with thermals and hats for the Morning Glory kayaking tour. It’s the early morning kayaking tour in Milford Sound. It’s also one of the more adventurous tours with a lot of paddling as we are going to be covering a lot of water today.
He hit the water in a double kayak and paddle toward our first sight, Sinbad Gully. We are told heaps of information about the geology and history of Milford Sound by our knowledgably Milford Sound kayaking guide.
After kayaking along the edge of Milford Sound and right underneath it’s mountains, we cross Milford Sound to aim for Stirling Falls. We even kayak under Stirling Falls only to be swept away by the force of the 151m waterfall. Next, we arrive at a seal colony where we get closer to the seas than even before in our kayaks.
The Morning Glory Tour with Rosco’s Milford Sound Kayaks usually takes kayakers out to the end of Milford Sound, but because the weather is looking bad, the tour is cut short and we are picked up by water taxi halfway through Milford Sound.
So what do you think of a kayak tour in Milford Sound. Is this the way you would see Milford Sound? LUK in the comments.

-- About this video --
This is it, we are finally leaving Queenstown and heading for the Southland region. Our first stop and base for the next few days is Te Anau – the gateway to the Fiordland National Park.
When we arrive in Te Anau, we check in at the Real Journeys office and board our cruise to the Te Anau Glow Worm Caves. There, we board the boat and cruise out to the western shores of Lake Te Anau and the Te Anau Caves. The Te Anau Glowworm Caves are one of the best things to do in Te Anau.
Inside the Real Journeys building at the caves, we get a quick presentation on the lifecycle of the glowworms before heading in small groups into the caves.
A walkway leads through the Te Anau Glowworm Caves to waterfalls, trout pools and close-up encounters with glow worms. Then we reach a small boat for an opportunity to float right underneath a whole ceiling of glowworms. Right here is one of the best places to see glow worms in New Zealand.
After seeing the New Zealand glowworms, we make our way back out of the caves and into the forest of the Fiordland National Park where we learn more about the bird native species.
So what do you think of the Glowworms in Te Anau? Would you see the Te Anau Glowworms in New Zealand? LUK in the comments!

Te Anau - Milford Sound Highway : Road to the Milford Sound New Zealand
I decided to base myself in the little town of Te Anau. The gateway to the Fiordland National Park of South Island New Zealand. Perhaps the highlight of a trip to New Zealand is visiting the Milford Sound. A fiord valley which opens out to the Tasman sea. The road leading to the sound is called the Te Anau-Milford Sound Highway and is perhaps amongst the scenic road I have ever had the chance to be on. It was raining really hard today, and this part of New Zealand gets plenty of rain due to its location. Some people would prefer to visit Milford Sound on a sunny day. But I would rather it rain like it did and see a million waterfalls cascading down the mountain sides. Truly spectacular. I decided to join a day trip tour group with Jucy Cruize, they provided round-trip transportation to Milford Sound from Te Anau, a 1 hour boat cruise, and a small lunch meal. The driver was really informative as he drove the small shuttle bus and gave really great commentaries about the history and the surrounding area. music by Setu-Firestorm

A tour of Milford Sound and Fiordland! // video by Herb
Here is an awesome tour that I went during my visit to New Zealand! The tour, operated by Awesome NZ starts in Queenstown, with a midway stop at Te Anau, then a few lookout stops at the Eglinton Valley, Mirror Lakes, Pop's View lookout, the Chasm, before our cruise aboard Jucy Maiden of Milford with panoramic views from the cockpit and the top open deck. The weather wasn't the best, but the unique geography of Milford Sound stood out well.
On the return trip, the driver played on the coach entertainment system the film The World's Fastest Indian, featuring Invercargill racer Burt Munro and the unique Indian motorcycle.

Helicopter tour of Doubtful Sound in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park
Here are the highlights from our helicopter tour from Te Anau to Doubtful Sound and surrounding areas of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. Audio is Myth by Beach House.
MILFORD SOUND NEW ZEALAND │SPECTACULAR BOAT TOUR
Welcome to Milford Sound New Zealand with its iconic Mitre Peak.
We stayed overnight in Te Anau and left early in the morning to drive the one and a half hour journey to Milford Sound. It pays to get there early as, not only is the scenery more spectacular but you can get an early cruise without the crowds.
Milford Sound is a fiord in the Fiordland National Park in South Western New Zealand's South Island. It is absolutely awe inspiring and a definite must see when visiting New Zealand.
The fiord includes many inlets nestled amoung towering mountans and pristine forest. It is spoilt for choice when it comes to spectacular waterfalls which all empty into the fiord. There are also fur seal colonies, dolphins, penguins and many other sea birds.
When visiting, you have many options to experience Milford Sound, including cruises, overnight cruises, helicopter flights, or just plain hiking.
Whatever you do, take your time to explore and absorb this magical place.
