Bulstrode Celebration 2016
Forty-nine years, One historic mansion, Thousands of lives changed forever. Bulstrode Park in Buckinghamshire has beautiful grounds and a fascinating history, but these are more than matched by its spiritual heritage. For five decades Bulstrode served as the UK headquarters of the Christian Mission Agency, WEC International. It was a home for the UK staff; a training centre for those preparing for cross-cultural mission work; a base for key ministries blessing the wider Body of Christ; a place of retreat for WEC members and countless others; a vibrant centre for world missions and much more. How does it work?
Acupuncture likely works by stimulating the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) to release chemicals called neurotransmitters and hormones such as endorphins, our body's natural pain relieving hormones, thereby enhancing the immune system and regulating various body functions.
Acupuncture provides a fast effective route to pain relief, through the use of fine needles inserted into trigger points in muscles. The needles penetrate deep into knots of muscles, to relieve tension and increase blood flow to the region. They can hit stubborn knots with precision, even when the source of pain seems to be buried so deep as to be inaccessible to massage. Relaxing these trigger points can release long held pain. Because of their exact anatomical location on nerve pathways, they can also reach the roots of referred pain in, for example, whiplash or tension headaches.
Acupuncture is not the treatment - it is only part of the treatment and is commonly used as an adjunct to osteopathy to ensure maximum healing potential.
I offer Acupuncture in Amersham, Chesham, Beaconsfield and Chalfont St Peter Clinics

What to expect in a medical acupuncture appointment
Medical acupuncture is practised alongside osteopathy at the practice although can be used as a standalone treatment (please do call to discuss your case). You will be assessed by your practitioner who may decide that acupuncture would be beneficial for you, or you may request to be treated using acupuncture.
After taking your medical history and examining you, fine sterile needles are inserted through the skin and left in position. Sometimes they may be turned gently to enhance their effect. The number of needles varies according to the situation, but may be only two or three.
Is it hygienic?
Yes, only sterile, single-use, disposable needles will be used.
Is it safe?
In the right hands, acupuncture is very safe. Minor side effects can include small bruises, or discomfort in the area needled. Sometimes people can feel drowsy or faint after a treatment. More serious side effects occur in fewer than 1 in 10,000 treatments.
Of the few reported cases of serious complications, almost all were caused by non-sterile needles (causing viral infections), or poor technique in positioning the needles. As qualified practitioners we understand the risk factors. We only ever use single-use, sterile disposable needles, and we practice safe needling techniques as taught by the British Medical Acupuncture Society. We also ask about your general health before we start, to make sure there’s nothing in your medical history that might cause a problem.
We need to know if you carry any blood borne viruses (such as HIV, Hepatitis B or C), if you have any heart valve defects, if you have had a strong reaction to acupuncture in the past, or if you have a pacemaker or any other electrical implant.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
More often than not acupuncture is almost completely painless. The needles used for acupuncture are very fine indeed, with a diameter as small as 0.2mm- almost like a hair. The needles are sterilised and never used more than once so they remain incredibly sharp- hence almost no pain as they pass through the skin. In experienced hands, acupuncture is extremely safe.
What if I don’t like needles?
Then our osteopaths will use alternatives such as acupressure or trigger point massage. This may not produce as much or as quick an improvement as with intramuscular acupuncture but these are still very effective techniques.
What to expect in a medical acupuncture appointment
Medical acupuncture is normally practised alongside osteopathy but in some cases can be used in a stand alone treatment (please call the clinic to discuss your case) .
The number of needles varies according to the situation, but may

London Underground
The London Underground is a public metro system serving a large part of Greater London and parts of the counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. The system serves 270 stations and has 402 kilometres of track, 55% of which is above ground. The network incorporates the world's first underground railway, the Metropolitan Railway, which opened in 1863 and is now part of the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines; and the first line to operate underground electric traction trains, the City & South London Railway in 1890, now part of the Northern line. The network has expanded to 11 lines, and in 2012/13 carried over 1 billion passengers.

Air School (1950)
Heston, Middlesex.
Various good shots show air stewardesses in training at the BOAC Air School. The instructors use the body of an aeroplane to teach the girls in the appropriate surroundings.
Trainee air hostesses look inside the aeroplane kitchen to see a girls learning how to arrange food nicely on plates and cut tomatoes and fruit into flowers and baskets (rather different from today's tv-dinner food on airlines).
The women then go into the main part of the plane and are shown to their seats and looked after by other trainees. They put blankets on the laps of passengers and one girl is shown how to hold a tray high to avoid colliding with a passing passenger in the gangway.

BLACKCAPS Make Dream Come True for Cricket Loving Twins
On Saturday 30 January 2016, nine year old twin brothers Ashvin and Arvinth Sathiyaseelan from Flat Bush, Manukau had a special surprise when they attended a Blackcaps training session.
The brothers have Type Three Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neurological condition which causes weakness and muscle wasting and the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation has supported them to help them achieve their sporting dreams. The powerchair users are cricket mad but were unable to play their beloved sport until they connected with the Foundation.
The brothers received a Halberg Activity Fund grant for a support person to keep the boys on their feet during training sessions and games at their local cricket club. The support enabled them to fully experience their favourite game for the first time. Mother Dharshi says being part of the cricket club was just an awesome experience and they enjoyed every moment and were full of energy and also took home some Player of the Day and Coaches' Awards.
Last year the brothers also attended the Saint Kentigern Halberg Junior Disability Sports Day in November, trying out table top cricket - an adapted version of cricket for physically disabled young people.
The annual Halberg Awards have a dual purpose - honouring the country’s athletes and teams for the achievements in 2015 and the major fundraising event for the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation. The Foundation was formed in 1963 by Olympic running champion Sir Murray Halberg, with the aim of bringing New Zealand sports people together to raise funds for the benefit of disabled children. Sir Murray rallied around his friends and resurrected the then defunct ‘Sportsman of the Year’ Awards as a fundraising dinner for the Foundation. 53 years on the Foundation's work has enabled thousands of disabled New Zealanders the opportunity to participate in sport and access the health, social and emotional benefits that sport provides.
This year the Blackcaps are finalists in several categories for the 53rd Halberg Awards including the Microsoft Surface Team of the Year. Kane Williamson is up for the High Performance Sport New Zealand Sportsman of the Year and Grant Elliott and Ross Taylor have both been shortlisted for the Radio Sport Sporting Moment of the Year.
The Blackcaps invited Ashvin and Arvinth to join them for a training session on Saturday, the boys got to see them warming up for the big game, practicing in the nets and they even had a game of table top cricket with Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson. The highlight of the day was Kane Williamson giving them each a pair of his batting gloves.

The London Underground (also known simply as the Underground, or by its nickname the Tube) is a public rapid transit system serving London, England and some parts of the adjacent counties of Buckinghamshire, Essex and Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. The Underground has its origins in the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first underground passenger railway. Opened in January 1863, it is now part of the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines; the first line to operate underground electric traction trains, the City & South London Railway in 1890, is now part of the Northern line. The network has expanded to 11 lines, and in 2017/18 carried 1.357 billion passengers, making it the world's 11th busiest metro system. The 11 lines collectively handle up to 5 million passengers a day.The system's first tunnels were built just below the surface, using the cut-and-cover method; later, smaller, roughly circular tunnels—which gave rise to its nickname, the Tube—were dug through at a deeper level. The system has 270 stations and 250 miles (400 km) of track. Despite its name, only 45% of the system is underground in tunnels, with much of the network in the outer environs of London being on the surface. In addition, the Underground does not cover most southern parts of Greater London, with fewer than 10% of the stations located south of the River Thames. The early tube lines, originally owned by several private companies, were brought together under the UndergrounD brand in the early 20th century and eventually merged along with the sub-surface lines and bus services in 1933 to form London Transport under the control of the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB). The current operator, London Underground Limited (LUL), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Transport for London (TfL), the statutory corporation responsible for the transport network in Greater London. As of 2015, 92% of operational expenditure is covered by passenger fares. The Travelcard ticket was introduced in 1983 and Oyster, a contactless ticketing system, in ...

SUMMARY
=======
Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. It is one of the plastic arts. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving (the removal of material) and modelling (the addition of material, as clay), in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials but, since Modernism, there has been an almost complete freedom of materials and process. A wide variety of materials may be worked by removal such as carving, assembled by welding or modelling, or molded or cast.
Sculpture in stone survives far better than works of art in perishable materials, and often represents the majority of the surviving works (other than pottery) from ancient cultures, though conversely traditions of sculpture in wood may have vanished almost entirely. However, most ancient sculpture was brightly painted, and this has been lost.Sculpture has been central in religious devotion in many cultures, and until recent centuries large sculptures, too expensive for private individuals to create, were usually an expression of religion or politics. Those cultures whose sculptures have survived in quantities include the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, India and China, as well as many in Central and South America and Africa.
The Western tradition of sculpture began in ancient Greece, and Greece is widely seen as producing great masterpieces in the classical period. During the Middle Ages, Gothic sculpture represented the agonies and passions of the Christian faith. The revival of classical models in the Renaissance produced famous sculptures such as Michelangelo's David. Modernist sculpture moved away from traditional processes and the emphasis on the depiction of the human body, with the making of constructed sculpture, and the presentation of found objects as finished art works.

SUMMARY
=======
John Forbes Kerry (born December 11, 1943) is an American politician who served as the 68th United States Secretary of State from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a United States Senator from Massachusetts from 1985 until 2013. He was the Democratic nominee in the 2004 presidential election, losing to Republican incumbent George W. Bush.
Kerry was born in Aurora, Colorado and attended boarding school in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He graduated from Yale University in 1966 with a major in political science. Kerry enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1966, and between 1968 and 1969, he served an abbreviated four-month tour of duty in South Vietnam as officer-in-charge (OIC) of a Swift Boat. For that service, he was awarded combat medals that include the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal and three Purple Heart Medals. Securing an early return to the United States, Kerry joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War organization in which he served as a nationally recognized spokesman and as an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War. He appeared in the Fulbright Hearings before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs where he deemed United States war policy in Vietnam to be the cause of war crimes.
After receiving a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, Kerry worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Massachusetts. He served as Lieutenant Governor under Michael Dukakis from 1983 to 1985 and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984 and was sworn in the following January. On the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he led a series of hearings from 1987 to 1989 which were a precursor to the Iran–Contra affair. Kerry was reelected to additional terms in 1990, 1996, 2002 and 2008. On October 11, 2002, Kerry voted to authorize the President to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, but warned that the administration should exhaust its diplomatic avenues before launching war.In his 2004 presidential campaign, Kerry criticized George W. Bush for the Iraq War. He and his running mate, U.S. Senator from North Carolina John Edwards, lost the election, finishing 35 electoral votes behind Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Kerry returned to the Senate, becoming Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship in 2007 and then of the Foreign Relations Committee in 2009. In January 2013, Kerry was nominated by President Barack Obama to succeed outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and then confirmed by the U.S. Senate, assuming the office on February 1, 2013. Kerry retained the position until the end of Obama's second term on January 20, 2017.
