Fireweed Community Market Whitehorse
In summer the Fireweed Community Market is a weekly feature of Whitehorse in the Yukon. Filmed 21 Aug 2014.
Whitehorse Farmers Market
The Whitehorse Farmers Market provides an opportunity to buy fresh produce directly from the farmer. Operated by the combined Whitehorse Rotary groups, the money raised from the gold coin donation on entry, the stall-holder fees, and the BBQ goes to support a range of community projects in the local area.
The market is held on the second Sunday of every month from 8am to 1pm, at 379 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading.
A big thank you to the suppliers and visitors featured in the video.

Alaska 2018 - 9 [Whitehorse to Pine Lake in Haines Junction]
We finally left Whitehorse and moved down the road to Pine Lake in Haines Junction moving a bit closer to Alaska. See the blog post for this video here:
What else happened in Whitehorse?
Alpine Organic Bakery (
Alpine Bakery was amazing! Everything in the case was by default vegan. If it had eggs or dairy in it, they marked it on the tag. Many of the items were made of whole grains with little or no added oils or processed sugars. It was exciting to try some baked goods. They also have really good coffee.
Midnight Sun Coffee (
A cute coffee shop with pretty good coffee. No vegan baked goods. They even have a sign that says no vegan or gluten-free baked goods. Gee, thanks?
Fireweed Farmer’s Market (
Every Thursday there’s a farmer’s market in town. When we went it was mostly food and craft vendors. There was only one vendor with vegetables and they only had micro greens and radishes. But we were here really early in the season. There was also a local kombucha vendor and it was pretty good.
The drive to Pine Lake was rainy and nasty. We didn’t see any animals! But as we came upon the Kluane range the mountains were so beautiful!
Animal tally bet
We have a bet going with The Motorhome Experiment. Whoever sees the most animals gets to have dinner on the losing couple. We have not been doing so well lately so we’ll see how it goes.
Pine Lake Government Camp (
Pine Lake is another campground with no services. The sites are all well-maintained and have picnic tables. This park also offers free firewood. There are only vault toilets.
There’s an interpretive trail along the lake, mostly on a boardwalk. The views are quite beautiful especially if you walk to the end where you can see the Kluane range. Many different birds come to the lake. We saw some ducks but that was about it. Cover up or use bug spray because there are mosquitos down by the water.
Gas check
We paid CAD $1.449 / liter this fill-up in Whitehorse. The gas station next to the Walmart has a dump, potable water, and a dumpster for trash. They don’t seem to have a problem with people using them even if they don’t buy gas. We did buy gas and topped off the propane.
This video was shot on an iPhone X ( and edited with iMovie.

Where People Make a Difference: Goat Farm in Amsterdam! See the World With SPAR
The video I made for the 'Where people make the difference' task in the SPAR competition to be a travel reporter!
It's not the best quality, I am definitely not the world's best editor, but I managed to get a few interviews with some of the people who own the local farmers markets on the Goat farm in Amsterdamse Bos. The food as well as the atmosphere here is incredible - helping to make a difference to the environment, community and nature. Yaaaay.

Sweet Stone Clover Honey!
Lack of rain had the fruit trees blossoming early creating a dearth that lasted about a week. The next thing that started was the little white stone clover that hardly gets more than a few inches high. That is when this honey came in a furious manner.
