FAW. History
On July 13, 1956, under the guidance of the China's Central Committee and with assistance from the former Soviet Union, construction of China's first automotive production base was completed. Known at that time as First Automotive Works (FAW) and now as First Automotive Group Corporation, this sprawling car and truck manufacturer headquartered in Changchun, China firmly launched the country into the automotive age.
Changchun the Detroit of China
Charles Chaw, producer of 6 episodes Inside China Next Powerhouse, presents the opportunities of Northeastern China. In this Part 1 of fourth episode: Changchun, this city is the provincial capital of Jilin Province, which is a traditional agriculture belt, famous for its bountiful harvests of corn. Changchun, literally means a long period of spring. Changchun however is more famous for its automobile industry. More than any other Chinese city, Changchun's fate is closely tied to its automobile industry. Some 70% of the city's industrial output is tied to this industry. Changchun is aptly known as the Detroit of China.
First Automotive Works, or FAW Group, is the backbone of Changchun's automobile industry. It is also China's largest automobile manufacturer. Three years after it was founded with the help from the Soviet Union, in 1956. The company rolled out its first product, the truck branded as Jiefang, or liberation. The Jiefang truck was also the first vehicle made entirely in China and proved that Chinas could make its own vehicles. Soon, FAW expanded into passenger cars, and the Hongqi, used exclusively as the sedan for the country's leaders, became the flagship model. With the prestige accorded to it, the Hongqi was the pride of FAW, and FAW, the pride of China. Under the central planning economic system, the city was designated as the key automobile production base. The Hongqi brand heralded Changchun's status as China's automobile city.
Unmanned Driving: China on track to take global leadership
The self-driving vehicle is often dubbed the wheeled mobile robot, with a computer inside it working as an intelligent pilot and sensors detecting the environment. Experts predict that China will lead in this technology as domestic tech giants such as Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent have already stepped into the field, along with car companies such as the First Automobile Group of Changchun and the Shanghai Automobile Group. Meanwhile, major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Shenzhen have issued rules on unmanned driving and pushed for road tests for the technology.

Automotive industry in China
The automotive industry in China has been the largest in the world measured by automobile unit production since 2008. Since 2009 annual production of automobiles in China exceeds that of the European Union or that of the United States and Japan combined.
Indigenous brands that do not cooperate with a multinational also exist but may be less popular. These include: Beijing Automotive Group, Brilliance Automotive, BYD, Dongfeng Motor, FAW Group, SAIC Motor, Chang'an, Geely, Chery, Jianghuai, Great Wall, and Guangzhou Automobile Group. While most of the cars manufactured in China are sold within China, exports reached 814,300 units in 2011. China's home market provides its automakers a solid base and Chinese economic planners hope to build globally competitive auto companies.

Audi TT Production
Györ, the Hungarian city on the Danube, is an ideal location for the manufacturing of high-tech engines and cars. Its merits lie not merely in the high availability of skilled workers and highly qualified university graduates.
AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft., a fully owned subsidiary of AUDI AG, builds over 1.9 million engines there each year, and assembles the Audi TT model range and the A3 Cabriolet, among other vehicles, in tandem with the Ingolstadt plant. Audi Hungaria is the principal engine supplier of the Audi and Volkswagen Groups, one of Hungary's highest revenue enterprises and also one of the country's biggest exporters.
ENGINE MANUFACTURING - Engine production (pre-series) started as long ago as the end of 1993. The engine production plant in Györ, Hungary, was inaugurated in October 1994. With this move, Audi not only safeguarded its international competitiveness, it also created a strategic base in Hungary that is gaining increasingly in importance. Györ now produces almost the entire range of Audi engines. Some 400 different versions of basic engines are built there: four, six, eight, ten and twelve-cylinder engines featuring both TDITDISynonymous with muscular torque delivery and outstanding efficiency: TDI. Today, TDI engines are sporty, smooth and economical.TDI and FSIFSIGetting more out of every drop of petrol.FSI technology. The ten millionth engine was completed there in June 2005. Volume production of the new four-cylinder common rail engines started in October 2007.
VEHICLE ASSEMBLY - Assembly of the Audi TT models at Györ commenced in April 1998. The first second-generation Audi TT Coupé left the Audi Hungaria production line in April 2006, and was followed by the first TT Roadster of the same generation in that November. The bodyshells, which have already been painted in Germany, are brought by train from Ingolstadt to Györ, where they are delivered to the assembly hall. By the end of 2007, 382,445 Audi TT Coupé and TT Roadster cars as well as 216 of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet had been assembled in partnership with the Ingolstadt plant. Audi has systematically realised a new, process-oriented production concept at the plant -- with short distances and fast, direct flows, from the delivery of parts to the transportation of the assembled cars.

Volkswagen shortened to VW, is a German automaker founded on 28 May 1937 by the German Labour Front, a Nazi labour union, and headquartered in Wolfsburg. It is the flagship marque of the Volkswagen Group, the largest automaker by worldwide sales in 2016 and 2017. The group's biggest market is in China, which delivers 40% of its sales and profits.
Volkswagen translates to people's car in German. The company's current international advertising slogan is just Volkswagen, referencing the name's meaning.
Volkswagen AG, known internationally as the Volkswagen Group, is a German multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany and indirectly majority owned by the Austrian Porsche-Piëch family. It designs, manufactures and distributes passenger and commercial vehicles, motorcycles, engines, and turbomachinery and offers related services including financing, leasing and fleet management. In 2016, it was the world's largest automaker by sales, overtaking Toyota and keeping this title in 2017 and 2018, selling 10.8 million vehicles. It has maintained the largest market share in Europe for over two decades. It ranked seventh in the 2018 Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest companies. Volkswagen Group sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and the flagship Volkswagen marques; motorcycles under the Ducati brand; and TRATON (commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses) under the marques MAN, Scania, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It is divided into two primary divisions, the Automotive Division and the Financial Services Division, and as of 2008 had approximately 342 subsidiary companies. Volkswagen also has two major joint-ventures in China (FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen). The company has operations in approximately 150 countries and operates 100 production facilities across 27 countries.
Volkswagen was founded in 1937, to manufacture the car which would become known as the Beetle. The company's production grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s, and in 1965 it acquired Auto Union, which subsequently produced the first post-war Audi models. Volkswagen launched a new generation of front-wheel drive vehicles in the 1970s, including the Passat, Polo and Golf; the latter became its bestseller. Volkswagen acquired a controlling stake in SEAT in 1986, making it the first non-German marque of the company, and acquired control of Škoda in 1994, of Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti in 1998, Scania in 2008 and of Ducati, MAN and Porsche in 2012. The company's operations in China have grown rapidly in the past decade with the country becoming its largest market. In June 2018, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses which comprises the MAN, Scania, and RIO truck brands are renamed to TRATON AG but the marques will not change, said by Andreas Renschler.

China is expected to also drive demand in the automotive market, with close to 35 million expected vehicle sales in 2020. That is a lot of vehicles, so let’s talk about the biggest car companies in China.

The Hongqi Limousine series were the first domestically-produced passenger Chinese vehicles from the company First Automobile Works. 현
Korea′s biggest automaker, Hyundai Motor, is expanding its operations in China,... the world′s biggest car market.
Construction officially kicked off at the fourth Hyundai plant on Friday, and the plant is expected to open next year, and sell more than 2-hundred-thousand cars every year.
Kwon Soa has this report.
The Hyundai Motor Company aims to make a bigger impact in the world′s biggest auto market.
Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun spoke at Friday′s ground breaking ceremony and emphasized key phrases, ′Hyundai speed′ and ′Hyundai miracle′.
″We are going to push ahead with sustainable development on multiple fronts, including upgrades to the auto industry and economy of both countries.″
The new factory is located in the city of Changzhou, in the northern Chinese province of Hebei.
Hyundai Motor Company occupies a market share of 8-point-8 percent in Beijing, and 8-point-2 in Heibei Province.
Contruction at the roughly 2 million square meter site is expected to be completed by 2016.
The company then plans to produce around 200-thousand vehicles a year and eventually increasing to 300-thousand annually by the end of 2018.
That projection includes mass production of compact cars tailored for the local market.
A fifth plant is also expected to break ground this summer in the mega-city of Chongqing.
Hyundai Motor Company′s focus on the Chinese market comes amid fierce global competition.
Demand is steadily rising, and currently stands at around 26 million units this year, surpassing the 30-million mark in three years and hitting nearly 35 million by 2020.
Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors, currently has a market share of around 10 percent in China, ranking third behind Volkswagen and General Motors.
