Ride from Guangzhou to Heyuan, Guangdong China on modified Honda CB-1/CB600 Hornet
My friend having recently accepted a position in Heyuan, Guangdong, China, I decided to take a ride there. The bike is a modified CB-1 with a detuned CBR600 engine and have a quick look at the city, about 200km from Guangzhou where I live. The day started out cold and windy but the weather improved along the way. Right off the bat we were held up by a huge convoy of military vehicles and trucks, but as soon as traffic was allowed to resume we caught up with it and rode alongside it. Before venturing into Heyuan downtown we took a fantastic, stunningly beautiful detour into the Xinfengjiang Reservoir area located just a few minutes from downtown Heyuan, home of the largest lake in Guangdong Province, which also supplies power to a large portion of this region as well. Somewhat rambling commentary throughout. Also, I'm aware the camera angle is low. I forgot to change it after switching from riding my more upright supermoto to the CB.
Filmed using a Drift HD Ghost.
The Greening of China? (a History Talk podcast)
As the world considers how to respond to climate change, China has emerged as the great paradox. With its fast-growing economy, China has become the leading producer of CO2 (though not on a per-capita basis). Simultaneously, it has become the world's leading producer of green and renewable energy. In this episode of History Talk, hosts Jessica Blissit and Brenna Miller talk to three experts—David Pietz, Betsy Brunner, and Ruth Mostern—about the problems facing China today, the short and long-term history of China’s relationship to the environment, and what global role China might play in the coming years in confronting climate change.
