Leyden Street (1620): The Oldest Street in Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA...built by the Pilgrims
This is a clip of the oldest street in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The street was named Leyden Street in honor of the city in the Netherlands that offered refuge to the Pilgrims while they were persecuted in England. Leyden Street may be the oldest street in one of the original thirteen colonies laid out by colonists and in continuous use since 1620. The Pilgrims built their houses and fort along the street. The First Thanksgiving was likely held nearby in 1620. Plymouth Rock is near the water end of the street and is the alleged point of arrival from the Mayflower.
The clip also shows First Parish Church in Plymouth, MA. Founded by the Piligrims, it is currently a Unitarian Universalist congregation and located near the site of the first fort and cemetery on Burial Hill. It is the oldest church congregation in New England, and the oldest continuous congregation in the United States.

PCN First Parish Church Plymouth Restoration Project
PCN PACTV Community News First Parish Church Plymouth Restoration Project
The First Parish Church in Plymouth is in need of some major repairs. While the stone structure might be nice to look at from the outside, those very stones have not been as protective as they’d hoped during rain, wind and weather. As a result, much of the mortar that holds it together has been knocked loose and has left the facade with several gaps between the stones. It’s also affected the interior. We met with the chairperson of the restoration committee to find out just how much work needs to be done.

Plymouth 400's Illuminate Thanksgiving Event and the One Small Candle Award
Highlights from past Illuminate Thanksgiving events and One Small Candle Award Winners.
Thank you to Plymouth 400 Business Partner PAC TV for producing this highlight reel! Thanks to TheRiot Agency (another Business Partner) for producing the original footage from which much of this video was culled. And, finally, thank you to Denise Macceferri Photography (yet another Plymouth 400 Business Partner!) for many of the stills.
The 5th annual Illuminate Thanksgiving event will take place on the same day as the annual America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
The program begins at 4:30pm at the National Pilgrim Memorial Meetinghouse (formerly First Parish Church). This historic venue is located on Town Square at the top of Leyden Street. Founded in 1620 by the original Pilgrims, it is the oldest church congregation in the United States in continuous operation. The indoor portion of the event will run approximately 45 minutes and be immediately followed by a Procession of Lights down Leyden Street, the original street of Plymouth Colony. The event culminates on the Plymouth Waterfront where a program of gratitude and giving will be presented by many talented young people from around the region. The program features inspirational music by Northern Lights A Capella Chorus from Plymouth North High School and an original song performed by the Plymouth International Chorus. There will be a reading of Bradford’s quote by one of his descendants followed by a candle-lighting ceremony. The winner of the Plymouth 400 essay contest will be announced and the winner will read their response to the question, “Who illuminates your life?”, providing a powerful moment of gratitude and giving.
Finally, the recipient of the One Small Candle Award will be announced. This award honors an individual or organization that, through their actions, has touched the lives of many. It is a reminder that just one thoughtful act can change the lives of many. Plymouth 400 has worked hard year after year to have this portion of the event symbolize the true meaning of Thanksgiving with past recipients including Cellphones For Soldiers, For the Love of Erika, and This Star Won’t Go Out, the latter being the impetus for the film “The Fault In Our Stars”.
New For 2018!
In an effort to welcome as many worldwide participants as possible, Plymouth 400 has partnered with HERE Boston to provide a complete live stream of this year’s Illuminate Thanksgiving event. This unique community-based event will now be available worldwide and real-time via the HERE Boston app, FREE of charge! The app is available for both Apple and Android users. First settlers burying ground newbury massachusetts
and updated video log of the amazing first settlers burying ground of newbury. many of the first settlers are here and this cemetery had alot of surprises. most of the stones are memoriel stones but some actual graves are still present as well as the buriels. the rocks or tall skinny rocks are in fact official graves and buriels because look closely one can see initials chizzled into them with a very hard to see possible date... aka do it yourself graves. as what was done often back in the 17th to the early 19th centry.

A History of Plymouth Congregational Church
Here is a history of Plymouth made by some of our longtime members. It is a great way to see where we have come from as we continue to move forward.
Old Swedes Church joins First State National Park
Built in the late 1600's, the Wilmington church is now officially part of Delaware's long awaited National Park.
Swedish colonists started building the church in 1698 and it was completed a year later. It is the oldest church in the United States that still stands as originally built and is still in use as a house of worship.
When visitors tour these grounds they are linked with that past, said Rev. Patricia Downing, Rector of Trinity Parish which holds services at the church. Old Swedes Church is not a monument to the past only. It is a vibrant living place.
