Schleswig-Holstein battery, Museum of Coastal Defense, Hel, Pomerania, Poland, Europe
Museum of Coastal Defense Association Friends of Hel is a museum located in Hel, opened in spring 2006, its regulations were approved by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski February 27, 2009. The Museum was created on the initiative of the Military Monuments section of the Friends of Hel Association - thanks to the help and support of the Mayor of Hel and the municipality of Hel. MCD exhibits its exhibits at several renovated facilities of the former German coastal artillery battery Schleswig Holstein and at the self-reliant end of the stand 4 of the pre-war battery for them. Heliodora Laskowski. In 1940 a battery of three 406 mm caliber guns was installed in Hel, which were made for the German H battleships planned before the outbreak of the German war and named Schleswig Holstein. It works, after firing shots were transferred from Hel to France, as a battery Lindemann. The 406 mm caliber is the largest in the world ever installed in stationary batteries. This caliber works were also used, among others. on the American battleships type Iowa. There were larger calibers, but these were Japanese battleships, railways, tracked crawlers, or experimental vehicles. There are more than 15 permanent exhibitions in the interiors of the museum, as well as numerous exhibits related to the military history of the fortified area of Hel, celebrated by 32 days of defense in 1939, and the history of the Polish Navy. The first of the buildings is a multi-storey fire-control tower, with an elevated view point. The second object is the fire station # 2 (this consists of three fire stations) under a 406 mm caliber gun. The one-level, ground fire station consists of a barrack section for 88 seamen, a gigantic fire department and an ammunition section containing four handheld magazines - two ammunition magazines and two propellant stores. On November 11, 2006, on the occasion of Independence Day, the management board of the Coastal Defense Museum adopted a resolution to give the Coast Guard Museum the name of Commander Zbigniew Przybyszewski, heroic defender of Hel, executed innocently in 1952, as a result of a rigged trial in front of the Stalinist military court. In 2008 the Coastal Defense Museum in Hel opened a permanent exhibition devoted to captives. Karol Olgierd Borchardt and played with his pietism his apartment called the seventh heaven. In 2013, MOW received the sixth, the last of the 406 mm Schleswig-Holstein batteries in use. In one of the ammunition stores of this battery opened in 2013 a new section of the MOW called the Helicopter Railway Museum. n January 1, 2017, Helki Museum, Defense Workshop, Museum of Coastal Defense, Museum of Railways, and Helmets Museum were established on the basis of the Museum of Coast Guard. whip. H. Laskowski. The museum is located just in front of Hel's horns near the railway crossing (car parks for motorists are located on the provincial road 216).

POLAND WWII Museum of the Second World War CHILDREN'S Exhibit Time Travel {Budget Travel Gdansk}
Budget Travel Poland #8
At the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk, Poland, it is attempted to answer the question: How do you teach war to children?
An uneasy question to be sure, though one which needs to be answered. Inside Poland's national WWII museum, the children's exhibit, Time Travel is a permanent four-room display. Designed to show the physical effects of war over a prolonged period, guests begin in a school and then proceed through the same living room of one house at three times when, by the end of World War Two, the house is barely recognizable.
Matt receives a private tour to learn how and why this children's exhibit is an effective teaching tool of history.

Kashubia- Part 3/4 (EXPLORING HEL)
Brian returns to his family's homeland, this time to explore the colorful region of Kashubia. Located in central Pomerania this fascinating region, seldom visited by foreigners, has developed its own unique language and culture, different from the rest of Poland. A culture it is now struggling to preserve. Join Brian as he experiences the history, food, wilderness and traditions of this forgotten corner of Europe.
Brian's journey continues to the popular holiday town of Hel. During the Communist era, Hel was nothing more than a small fishing village. These days, it has grown to become one of Poland's most popular tourist destinations. Brian times his visit in order to avoid the large crowds and get a true sense of the town. After exploring the quaint city streets, Brian visits a seal sanctuary before exploring the surrounding beaches and forests, where he stumbles upon some relics from World War II.

SMS Konig, battleship, Scapa Flow
SMS Konig, was the lead dreadnought of the Konig-class of 4 battleships constructed by Germany in the lead up to WWI. As the latest evolution of the battleship concept, they were the newest and toughest dreadnoughts, and as such were placed in the vanguard of the Imperial German Navy High Seas Fleet at engagements such as the Battle of Jutland in 1916 where they traded heavy blows with the battleships of the British Grand Fleet.
At the end of WWI, as a condition of the November 1918 Armistice , 74 of the finest German ships were to be interned at Scapa Flow. Seven months later, as it appeared that the Armistice was in danger of breaking down and the hostilities recommence, with its guns disarmed and manned only by skeleton crews, the entire fleet was scuttled on a pre-arranged coded order on 21 June 1919 in the greatest single act of maritime suicide the world has eve seen.
Today, three Konig's lie on the bottom of Scapa Flow in 38-45msw. This video shows some of the Konig, a massive 25,000-ton dreadnought that is 575 feet long.
