St. Nicholas' Church and Museum | NIGULISTE | Tallinn
St. Nicholas' Church (Niguliste kirik) is a medieval former church in Tallinn, Estonia. It was dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron of the fishermen and sailors. Originally built in the 13th century, it was partially destroyed in Soviet Bombing of Tallinn in World War II. It has since been restored and today houses a branch of the Art Museum of Estonia, focusing mainly on ecclesiastical art from the Middle Ages onward. The former church is also used as a concert hall.
Most famous of the artworks in the museum is perhaps a Danse Macabre by the Lübeck master Bernt Notke, which depicts the transience of life, the skeletal figures of Death taking along the mighty as well as the feeble ones. Danse Macabre or The Dance of Death was a popular medieval motif in art. Only the initial fragment of the original 30 metres wide painting (accomplished at the end of the 15th century) has been preserved and is currently displayed in St Nicholas' Church.
The museum contains several other notable late Gothic and early Northern Renaissance works of art. The former High Altar of St Nicholas' Church was made between 1478–1481 in the workshop of Hermen Rode, a master painter from Lübeck. Paintings on the outer flanks of this double-winged altar depict the life of Saint Nicholas, the central part and the unfolded wings expose over thirty wooden sculptures forming the so-called gallery of saints.
The museum also contains a special silver chamber with the silver treasures of guilds, craft corporations and the Brotherhood of Blackheads.

Testing of Danube waters in Croatia after sludge spill, fishermen
(8 Oct 2010)
STORYLINE
The mighty River Danube was apparently absorbing the toxic red sludge spill from Hungary with little immediate harm, officials reported on Friday.
The red sludge entered the Danube on Thursday and was moving downstream by Friday toward Hungary's immediate neighbours, Croatia, Serbia and Romania, amid fears that it will kill off the river's fish and plant life.
Officials from Croatia were testing the river every few hours, hoping that the river's huge water volume would blunt the impact of the red sludge spill.
Revising even higher earlier estimates, Hungarian government officials said the reservoir break last Monday dumped 600-thousand to 700-thousand cubic meters (158 million to 184 million gallons) of sludge onto three villages.
At the Croatian village of Batina, the first country after the Danube leaves Hungary, experts were taking water samples which they will repeat daily for the next week.
Zdenko Foric, a local fisherman said he hadn't noticed any changes in the river water so far.
The colour of the water hasn't changed, he said. There is no change in the behaviour of the fish. We will see in a day or two.
Experts are expecting contamination levels to peak over the weekend.
South of Hungary, the 1,775-mile (2,850-kilometre) long Danube flows through Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Moldova before emptying into the Black Sea.

===============
Dugometražni dokumentarni film Mihajla Obrenova 'Kontakt', koji kroz priču o andergraund rok sceni Novog Sada govori o sudbini rokenrola u Srbiji,. Usvom vremeplovu, Obrenov prolazi kroz razne faze postojanja ove živopisne i vrlo snažne scene, od 1989. godine do danas. Uz pomoć više od 140 sagovornika, gledalac će se na duhovit i dinamičan način upoznati sa istorijom i geografijom alternativnog muzičkog Novog Sada – njegovim ključnim ličnostima, bendovima, supkulturnim grupama, bivšim i sadašnjim klubovima, radio i TV emisijama, bitnim koncertima, festivalima, fanzinima, ekscesima i maštovitim uradi-sam tehnikama za pravljenje instrumenata koje su primenjivali pankeri usled materijalne oskudice. U pozadini se provlače motivi iz političke, ekonomske i kulturne istorije Srbije s kraja XX i početka XXI veka koji su se neminovno odrazili na rok scenu Novog Sada: krvavi raspad Jugoslavije, sankcije i nestašice, emigriranje rokenrol publike, promena kulturnog identiteta gradova, socijalno raslojavanje, pojava droge na ulicama, bombardovanje, gašenje rokenrolu naklonjenih medija, emisija i klubova, atomizacija i pasivizacija javne sfere, selidba socijalne interakcije na internet, zamiranje uticaja rokenrola. - Jovan Ristić (PopBoks)
