European Tour 2019 - France by Camper Van
Touring Europe in our newly converted Mercedes Sprinter Camper Van. Living in the van full time and our first few nights in France. We took the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe which was a 4-hour crossing, then drove south-west to Rugles and stayed in a lovely Aire adjacent to a riverside park and old watermill.
Rugles, France
Stayed in Rugles for two nights while we got acquainted with how everything worked in the van and packed everything away.
We then drove west towards La Rochelle and because motorhomes are not allowed in the town centre car parks we camped nearby in a beautiful country park at Aigrefeuille D'Aunis.
Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis, France
This is a really nice spot to camp, set in trees by a lake area with fishing, clean toilet facilities, grey water and toilet waste disposal.
Highly recommend this picturesque place to stay even though it is a bit remote from the town and shops.
The beach that we parked next to for lunch in the video was at Chatelaillon-Plage and there is parking next to the beach and marina. Location.
Then a short trip further south down the west coast to a lovely beach resort called St Georges De Didonne right next to the lighthouse where we stayed in the port motorhome car park.
There are 4 motorhome parks in the town and this is the first one we had to pay €10 per night but worth it for the location and scenic promenade walk. The town centre Aire has water and waste facilities.
Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, France

Yucab Reef - Drift Drive, Cozumel, Mexico 2019
This is the second dive for the day.The Yucab reef was a welcomed easier dive after the Santa Rosa Wall. The strong currents (particularly strong on this day) make it fun as you to just drift by. At only 15m down it is an entry level dive and good exposure to drift diving. We used Beyond Diving who operate direct boat trips from Playa Del Carmen. Cozumel in Mexico is a spot no diver should miss.

Fécamp is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Haute-Normandie region in northern France. Fécamp is situated in the valley of the Valmont river, at the heart of the Pays de Caux, on the Albaster Coast. It is around 35 km northeast of Le Havre, and around 60 km northwest of Rouen.
According to its late medieval founding legend, the trunk of a fig tree (ficus) carrying the Precious Blood of Christ collected by Joseph of Arimathea was washed ashore on the riverbank at Fécamp in the 1st century. Immediately, a fountain of holy blood gushed from the site; the relic attracted many medieval pilgrims, enhancing the reputation of the city. The monks' legend justified the artificial etymology of the name to Fici-campus, the camp of the fig tree. Fécamp, however, is mentioned in 875 as Fiscannum and in 990 as Fiscannus and as late as 1496 which stem from the Germanic root fisc (English fish) with an unknown suffix. It used to be the name of the Valmont River.
he history of Fécamp has always revolved around the fishing industry and its harbour (first mentioned in the 11th century). The reputation of the salt-herrings of Fécamp was established as early as the 10th century, that of smoked herrings from the 13th century. An association of whale fishermen was created in the 11th century. Fishing for cod started commercially in the 16th century, under the impetus of Nicolas Selles, an early shipping magnate. Throughout the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century, Fécamp had an important role as the chief fishing port in France for cod and cod-related fish. This was the case up until the 1970s, when Canada stopped all access to their fishing grounds. First practiced by three-masted sailing ships, Atlantic fishing trips could last more than six months, the time taken to fill the hold with cod, which were salted to preserve them.

Susan Grace Galassi: Home Port: Dieppe and Cologne in The Frick Collection
The grand-scale port scenes of Dieppe and Cologne that J. M. W. Turner painted in the mid-1820s are generally recognized as a turning point in his career. Combining on-site observation with inspiration from past masters and literary sources, Turner shocked the public and critics alike with the canvases’ brilliant golden light when he exhibited them at the Royal Academy in 1825 and 1826, respectively. This lecture explores how these two masterworks offer a clear statement of the direction Turner was taking landscape painting as the most original artist of his time.

2013 St Malo onboard Swan 51 Northern Chief. (retired) John Loden Reports.
We sailed the Cowes - St Malo race onboard 'Northern Child', a Swan 51. We made a promising start out of the Solent but eventually the wind died off the Dorset coast to such a degree that we possibly would not reach St Malo until the end of the weekend - and some crew had planes to catch on Monday morning from Heathrow. So we retired. But take a look at the good footage in the Solent including shots of a couple of the 'Big Boys' passing us Cowes Dinard St Malo Race An Offshore Classic first raced in 1906, starting in Cowes and heading 175 miles southwest across the Channel to Dinard & St Malo, France, a Fastnet Qualifier.

What Floats Your Boat: Designing, Building, and Driving Wartime Vessels
During World War II, boats and ships were designed for a specific purpose, whether to aid in landing thousands of troops on faraway beaches, or to launch air attacks in the middle of vast seas and oceans.
Captions are available in English and Spanish. Spanish captions are made possible through generous support from Pan-American Life Insurance Group.
Learn about the importance of boat design firsthand from Museum boat builders, hard at work restoring PT-305. Built in New Orleans, PT-305 served in the Mediterranean during WWII. After 70+ years of wear-and-tear, it’s now the job of the boat building team to repair and restore PT-305 to her wartime condition.
Next, discover what it’s like being in the driver’s seat of a Higgins boat from World War II veteran Johnny DiFatta. With their unique design, Higgins boats were used in every major amphibious landing of the war, delivering soldiers and supplies during beach invasions. Mr. DiFatta shares stories about his experiences behind the wheel of this critical landing craft in the Pacific Theater

New Brunswick
New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick; pronounced: [nu.vo.bʁœn.swik], Quebec French pronunciation: [nu.vo.bʁɔn.zwɪk] ( )) is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces and is the only province in the Canadian federation that is constitutionally bilingual (English–French). It was created as a result of the partitioning of the British Colony of Nova Scotia in 1784. Fredericton is the capital and Saint John is the most populous city. Greater Moncton (Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview) forms the province's largest census metropolitan area. In the 2011 nation wide census, Statistics Canada estimated the provincial population to have been 751,171. The majority of the population is English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (33%), chiefly of Acadian origin.

Ho Chi Minh
Hồ Chí Minh (Northern Vietnamese pronunciation : [ho̞˧˩ t͡ɕi˧˥ mɪŋ˧] ( ), Southern Vietnamese pronunciation : [ho̞˧˩ t͡ɕɪj˧ mɪ̈n˧] ( ); 19 May 1890 – 2 September 1969), born Nguyễn Sinh Côn, or Nguyễn Sinh Cung, also known as Nguyễn Tất Thành and Nguyễn Ái Quốc, was a Vietnamese Communist revolutionary leader who was prime minister (1945–1955) and president (1945–1969) of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam). He was a key figure in the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, as well as the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and the Việt Cộng (NLF or VC) during the Vietnam War.
He led the Việt Minh independence movement from 1941 onward, establishing the Communist-ruled Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeating the French Union in 1954 at the battle of Điện Biên Phủ. He officially stepped down from power in 1965 due to health problems, but remained a highly visible figurehead and inspiration for those Vietnamese fighting for his cause—a united, communist Vietnam—until his death. After the war, Saigon, the former capital of the Republic of Vietnam, was renamed Hồ Chí Minh City; however, the name Saigon is still very widely used.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
The Maritime history of the United Kingdom involves events including shipping, ports, navigation, and seamen, as well as marine sciences, exploration, trade, and maritime themes in the arts from the creation of the kingdom of Great Britain as a united, sovereign state, on 1 May 1707 in accordance with the Treaty of Union, signed on 22 July 1706. Until the advent of air transport and the creation of the Channel Tunnel, marine transport was the only way of reaching the British Isles. For this reason, maritime trade and naval power have always had great importance.
Prior to the Acts of Union, 1707, the maritime history of the British Isles was largely dominated by that of England. (See Maritime history of England for more details.)
