Places to see in ( Inveraray - UK )
Places to see in ( Inveraray - UK )
Inveraray; is a town in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is on the western shore of Loch Fyne, near its head, and on the A83 road. It is a former royal burgh, the traditional county town of Argyll, and ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll.
In 1744 the third Duke of Argyll decided to demolish the existing castle and start from scratch with a new building. The castle was 40 years in construction, and the work was largely supervised by the Adam family, still renowned to this day as gifted architects and designers. The end product was not a castle in the traditional sense, but a classic Georgian mansion house on a grand scale, Inveraray Castle.
Over the years the castle has played host to numerous luminaries; Queen Victoria visited it in 1874, and the Royal connection was further cemented when her daughter, Princess Louise, married the heir to the Campbell chieftainship, the Marquess of Lorne, in 1871, illustrating the elevated position of the Argyll family in the social pecking order of the times.
In 1747 William Adam had drawn up plans for the creation of a new Inveraray. By 1770 little had been done, and the fifth Duke set about rebuilding the town in its present form. Some of the work on the rebuilt Inveraray was done by John Adam. The Inveraray Inn (formerly known as the New Inn, Great Inn, Argyll Arms Hotel and Argyll Hotel) on Front Street being his, as well as the Town House. Much of the rest of the town, including the church, was designed and built by the celebrated Edinburgh-born architect Robert Mylne (1733-1811) between 1772 and 1800.[10] The end product was an attractive town which included houses for estate workers, a woollen mill, and a pier to exploit herring fishing, which was to mushroom in later years to play a major role in the town's economy. The finished product is one of the best examples of an 18th-century new town in Scotland, and the vast majority of the properties in the centre of Inveraray are considered worthy of protection because of the town's architectural significance.
In addition to the castle, the Georgian Inveraray Jail in the burgh is now a museum. Other attractions include the Argyll Folk Museum at Auchindrain. The Celtic Inveraray Cross can also been seen in the town. The iron sailing ship Arctic Penguin is moored at the pier, along with the Clyde puffers VIC 72, Vital Spark. The Bell Tower dominates the town, and contains the second-heaviest ring of ten bells in the world. The bell tower is open to the public, and the bells are rung regularly. In autumn 2014, PBS premiered a series, Great Estates of Scotland. Inveraray was featured in one episode, as was the present Duke of Argyll, head of the Campbell clan.

SCOTTISH ROAD TRIP BEGINS ????Exploring Fife — Inchcolm Island & Culross | Scotland Vlog
We're spending the next 4 days exploring the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland - this place is AMAZING to road trip ❤️ Today we travel on the Maid of the Forth ferry for a cruise over to Inchcolm Island to check out the Abbey, then travel to Culross to scope out some famous spots and enjoy dinner.
If you haven't noticed by now, we absolutely love Scotland. The people are so welcoming, the food is delicious, the experiences are varied and the landscapes are breathtaking. The Kingodm of Fife offers all that and more - so here we are for the next 4 days to check it out!
Fife is a stunning coastal region in Scotland, we've seen some of the best little fishing towns and villages. Culross is one of those villages we knew we had to check out - cobblestoned streets, history, great food and movie set material.
First stop for the day though was the Maid of the Forth ferry for a cruise around the Firth of Forth as we make our way over to Inchcolm Island. The Abbey was impressive and things go interesting during seagull nesting season.
Be sure to subscribe to keep an eye out for our next Scotland vlogs as we travel more of Fife.

Driving up to the Scottish Highlands + Exploring Inveraray
We arrived in Inveraray, Scotland! We drove up on a sunny autumn morning, sat by Loch Fyne and then popped into the George Hotel for some seafood and chips!
Inveraray is a brilliant first stop for any trip into the Scottish Highlands! Can't recommend it enough! I do not recommend the hotel that we stayed in though - but it did the trick for one night!

Scenic fishing towns and villages can be found scattered throughout Highland’s vast coastline. Here the fishing industry continues to be a way of life for many and is a vital source of employment in what is considered some of the most remote land in Western Europe.
From small inshore creel boats landing shellfish daily to the large trawlers and seine netters venturing the North Sea and Atlantic to bring back their catch for market, Highland is highly regarded for producing fresh, high quality fish and shellfish both caught and farmed. World renowned scallops & langoustine are amongst a wide variety of species landed providing a range from everyday affordable to luxury treat.

Lochgilphead is a town and former burgh in Argyll and Bute, West of Scotland, with a population of around 2,300 people. It is the administrative centre of Argyll and Bute. The village lies at the end of Loch Gilp (a branch of Loch Fyne) and lies on the banks of the Crinan Canal. Lochgilphead sits on the A83 road, with Ardrishaig 2 miles to the south and Inveraray 24 miles to the north-east; Oban lies 37 miles north on the A816.
The council is based at Kilmory Castle, around which is located a woodland park and an Iron Age fort. The Forestry Commission also have an office there. Lochgilphead's facilities include a swimming pool, sports centre, fishing tackle shop, three banks, supermarket, two petrol stations, three homewear and hardware shops Renault dealership, a community hospital run by the local GPs, psychiatric hospital, 9-hole golf course, bowling club, a hydrotherapy pool, a regional landfill site at Dunchologan and Lochgilphead High School. The town is home to shinty team Kilmory Camanachd and football team, Lochgilphead Red Star.
As a planned settlement, Lochgilphead was created in 1790, shortly after the completion of a road from Inveraray to Campbeltown. After the completion of the Crinan Canal in 1801, the town became more important as a link across the Kintyre peninsula. The town was linked to Oban, when a road was completed in 1830. In 1831 a pier was built, helping to link Lochgilphead with Glasgow and other major towns. In 1975 Lochgilphead was chosen as the administrative headquarters of the Argyll and Bute District Council as part of local government reorganisation, due to its central location. In the nearby Kilmartin Glen is a large number of Neolithic remains, including cup and ring marks.
In July 1982, Lochgilphead competed against teams from Perth and Oban in the then highly popular BBC Television It's a Knockout, presented by Stuart Hall. The town's team won their round and later competed in the international version of the series, 'Jeux Sans Frontieres', which was recorded in Switzerland.
The town annually hosts the Dalriada Provincial Mod each September. The event is a Gaelic festival organised by the local branch of An Comunn Gàidhealach. Lochgilphead hosts The Mid-Argyll Agricultural Show, which is a major event held annually on the second Saturday in August.

Fishing in Scotland video and photo collection
Fishing in Scotland. A collection of photos and short videos of pike, salmon, sea trout, sea species, brown trout and rainbow trout fishing in Scotland, as well as Scottish scenery, my guests and lunches!
There are lots of fly fishing trips in Scotland, and lure fishing too.
We will design a fishing trip in Scotland to fit your desires.
We have recently negotiated access to a prime salmon river, fishinguide's secret river. After 11 trips there last year we haven't had a single blank.
If you have struggled to catch on the famous Scottish rivers like the Tay, Tweed, Dee or Spey, come to Argyll and have a go at a much more manageable river, with far better fishing-hours-to-fish-caught statistics.
One of the great things about Argyll is that it's like Scotland in miniature, it's got the coastal splendour of Sutherland, the highland peaks, amazing islands, and more rivers and lochs than you could easily count. Let's not forget the delicious seafood for which Loch Fyne has gained an enviable reputation.
Your trip to Argyll features a comfortable stay in a beautiful B&B or hotel, fantastic food in our excellent restaurants, views that will have you coming back for more, fishing to get your heart racing and friendly company to top it all off.
The vast majority of the footage and photos are from the beautiful region of Argyll in Scotland. Argyll is where fishinguide and her sister company fishingtripscotland.com are based.
Using Inveraray as our starting point we run fishing trips for Atlantic Salmon, Sea Trout, Pike, Brown Trout, Pollock, Perch, Rainbow Trout, Mackerel, Ferox Trout, Coal Fish and other saltwater species. We also run trips to other regions to fish for Trophy Trout in Orkney, Grayling in Dumfries and Perthshire, Softmouth Trout in Bosnia, Marble Trout in Bosnia, endemic Grayling in Montenegro and Big Game Fishing for Tuna in Croatia.
If you'd like to connect with Fishinguide then check out our social media sites
facebook.com/fishinguidecouk
twitter.com/fishinguideuk
We also offer fly casting instruction as well as a variety of guided fly fishing trips not only in Scotland but also to Bosnia for Softmouth and Marble trout, Montenegro for the indigenous Grayling and Huchen and Croatia for big game fishing in the salt.

Dunrobin Castle
Here is a small video we had the pleasure off shooting at the castle.
Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. Dunrobin Castle is also one of Britain's oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the early 1300s, home to the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland.
The Castle, which resembles a French château with its towering conical spires, has seen the architectural influences of Sir Charles Barry, who designed London’s Houses of Parliament, and Scotland’s own Sir Robert Lorimer. The Castle was used as a naval hospital during the First World War and as a boys’ boarding school from 1965 to 1972.
Dunrobin Castle is on the east coast of the Northern Highlands overlooking the Moray Firth, just north of the villages of Golspie and Dornoch (famous for its cathedral and Royal Dornoch Golf Club).
Dunrobin Castle is open annually from 1st April to 15th October.
