RAF Metheringham Airfield Drive Around
Drive around the former RAF Metheringham Airfield.
RAF Metheringham was an active airfield in Lincolnshire, England during World War II. Home to RAF 106 Squadron and helped defend Great Britain against Nazi Germany during the war. Home to a number of Avro Lancaster Bombers, the airfield was also home to RAF 110 Squadron until they moved to RAF Waddington. Lincolnshire was popular with the Royal Air Force as it is a quite flat county.
There is also a visitors centre and museum which includes buildings used by the RAF while RAF Metheringham was active. Since a lot of the land has been returned to local farmers and some other buildings re-purposed for other local businesses, it is nice to see buildings that tell the story of what happened here during World War II.
I would recommend paying a visit for yourself. The roads featured in this video are publicly accessible and staff at the visitors centre and museum would also recommend it, especially as the road that leads up between the opening in the trees is part of the airfields main runway.
The website for the visitors centre is: metheringhamairfieldmuseum.co.uk
Address is: The Visitor Centre, Westmoor Farm, Martin Moor, Metheringham, Lincolnshire, LN4 3WF
Thanks for watching my video, it was a fun day out.
