Fitchburg: Beckwith Hydraulic Elevator @ Fitchburg Public Library
This is an old, somewhat dumpy Beckwith Hydraulic Elevator, at the Fitchburg Public Library, Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
As of 7/24/2010, the City's budget is so tight, the library is only open 3 days a week, and was lucky to have time on a day it was open, to get this.
I started the adventure on the 2'nd floor, because the 1'st floor access was literally right next to the Librarian, so obviously, there would be problems.
The Basement is for Staff Only, yet it is unlocked, and we get to see what's down there, from within the lift.
The thing that gets me about this elevator is, that the floor indicator is what you'd expect in a Monty, but the buttons were the old GAL fixtures. Then again, Beckwith tends to use both. I found that to be odd in this case, being together like this.

Fitchburg Massachusetts 1915 Panoramic Bird's Eye View Map 6340
Panoramic Maps, also known as Bird's Eye View, aerial view, or perspective maps. These were a popular form of art at the turn of the 20th century depicting a city's key points of interest.
Unlike traditional maps, Panoramic maps often highlighted the commercial aspects of a town, while also clearly showing many local residences.
I've had a lot fun looking up places I've been to on these maps -- and I've gotta say - It's amazing just how much things change -- and also how much things stay the same.

Ashby MA Bicentennial Parade October 8th, 1967
This film was digitized from a 16 mm print I found in the Ashby
Library while doing research for the Documentary Concert on the Common. It did not have its own soundtrack. The music that plays along with it, is from a recording of the Ashby Band that played on July 12, 1967.
The recording was provided by Pastor Ken Johnson. He had found 2 reels of tape that I also had digitized. The movie and the music recordings were given back to the library and the Ashby
Historical Society.
Segments of this movie will appear in the documentary Concert on the Common: A History of the Ashby and Townsend Band Concerts
There's a lot of great footage in this film! Some nice old cars and the Ashby Band marching as well.
If you have any old movies or pictures of the Ashby Band Concerts,
please let me know! I'll pay to have them digitized! I can be contacted at production@moviestodiefor.com
Please subscribe to this channel to get future updates on this documentary!
And if you know anyone that appears in the film, mention it in the comments!
Thank you!

Chicopee, MA: Elevator at the Chicopee Public Library
This morning I went to the Chicopee Public Library with College CBDS from Riverside Industries. The elevator is a Thyssen Krupp (formally Dover) hydraulic it has the Dover Impulse fixtures. The elevator was installed in the 2000s when the library was built. Sorry I forgot to mention in the video that the elevator is hydraulic.

Fitchburg: Final Tribute Rides on Jumbo (B&A Traction Elevator) @ Fitchburg City Hall
A mole from within says the building is doomed to be condemned, and knocked down.
In November, the building will be condemned, and evacuated prior to that, as the roof is on the verge of caving in (as seen in the beginning, it's not all too good looking), as well as needing at least $400,000 in fire system improvements. Needless to say, the costs are too great. The roof would cost $100,000 to simply withstand a few inches of snow, about $10,000 now, just to keep it from falling in currently.
With this said, about 2 months before moving out, it was time to take a couple tribute rides on Jumbo, the GIGANTIC B&A Traction Elevator, in City Hall, Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Rides as well as it usually does, hit-and-miss pre-door action, and possibly, the last time it'll ever be ridden for YouTube.
There might be an outside chance a developer may redo the building, but all that's salvageable are the exterior walls. It's been deemed too far gone, historic-wise, after being butchered up severely in 1904, after it had it's first roof collapse.
I don't think a collapse will be catastrophic, but repairs are way too costly. City Hall will have a newly remodeled building to call home, when all is done.
Fitchburg Holds Groundbreaking For New Library
The city of Fitchburg took a step toward in the construction of a major
public building on Monday that some say will be the identity of a
growing community. Jessica Arp reports

Fitchburg: Revisiting Jumbo, the B&A Traction Elevator @ Fitchburg City Hall
This is a revisit of one of my favorites in Fitchburg, Jumbo, the B&A Traction Elevator, in Fitchburg City Hall, Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
As the name implies, it's a gignatic elevator, at least in terms of it's 2,000 pound weight capacity, for it's size. That part =IS= amazing!
This is a piece of art. It's old, a little worn, but it's beautiful. Unmodded (maybe the infared sensors was about it), and in most cases, has a small amount of Pre-Door. It's a Must-Ride for Elevator Geeks in the area.
We even get a glimpse of the mechanicals in the shaft.
NOTE: Had to end in the Basement, because the 1'st floor landing got a bit busy.

Fitchburg: Where the Original Burbank Hospital Once Stood
We look at the field where the original Burbank Hospital once stood, even after the 50's/60's, and 1976 additions were put on. In 1999, plans were to shrink and move services to Leominster Hospital, so the old portion was moved out, and in the early aughts (2000's), ultimately demolished. You can see newer walls that look out of place, where the old buildings met the new.
For the Elevator Geeks that sub, I also point out where an old Otis elevator, with manual doors and scissor-gate was, since there was an elevator-sized pit still in the ground, too shallow to see on camera, evident in-person.
