Five Islands Escape
Five Islands Lighthouse Park overlooks the Bay of Funday along the Glooscap trail in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Five Islands Provincial Park
The Bay of Fundy encompasses a large portion of two Canadian provinces; Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Meanwhile, the north shore of Nova Scotia sees fewer tourists, thus the lack of crowds we noticed at Five Islands Provincial Park.
The park has five islands, all of which are engulfed by water on high tide and surrounded by muddy flats on low tide, a testament to the Bay of Fundy's massive tides. This day, produced tides between 43-52 feet and here you'll see the dramatic events that take place when the tide changes and the stunning red cliffs that are exposed when the tide recedes. Keep in mind, these are the largest tide swings on the planet and they occur four times a day and take roughly 6 hours and 14 minutes to complete the cycle from high to low.
Bass River & Five Islands Lighthouses, Nova Scotia, Canada via DJI drone (#LighthouseProject)
Filmed over two days in Autumn 2015, experience Colchester County's two gorgeous lighthouses: Bass River and Five Islands.
Bass River Lighthouse: Built in 1907 on the point at the western side of the entrance to the Bass River, the light was the easternmost beacon on Cobequid Bay in the Bay of Fundy. Deactivated in 1992 and sold in 1994, a single-story dwelling was built onto the base of the lighthouse.
Five Islands Lighthouse: Built in 1914, the lighthouse has been moved several times to escape land erosion and as a result of a loan default. It was discontinued by the Coast Guard in 1993. The lighthouse made its final move in late 2008 to a fifteen-acre parcel of land in Colchester County.

Tidal Bore & Five Islands Provincial Park, (Free Camping in Nova Scotia) (172)
Lower Truro's tidal bore was interesting and the visitor center staff was very knowledgeable.
If you would like to know the tidal bore schedule, check it out here:
There is a lot of parking and a clean, modern bathroom. The parking lot can accommodate larger RVs. We parked here for a couple of hours and had lunch after watching the wave come in.
Five Islands Provincial Park:
We really enjoyed hiking to Old Wife. It was a quick and easy hike with just a tad of a climb. Be careful though, the rocks are very slippery when wet.
Besides the beautiful view, the hike is pet friendly. If we had more time, we would definitely have explored more of the hikes in this park. You can also camp here or dry camp nearby and make use of their dump station. The dump station cost $6 when we were here.

Five Islands Provincial Park
This park has a spectacular beach, where people come in to dig clams, plus a few hiking trails (which were closed when I was there due to a lack of rain & threats of forest fires). The red rock & granite join at one point making the view of the cliffs aww-inspiring.

Discovering the islands of Five Islands Park
On a whim, I set sail for this beautiful park near Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. I had a tent, an inflatable boat and a plan: I wanted to row to the islands there.

Five Islands’ Landmark Natural Arch Collapses
The province has lost an exquisite landmark. One of the most attractive natural landmarks of Long Island, the sea arch in Minas Basin, Nova Scotia, often referred to as the The Eye has been reduced to rubble after it collapsed overnight on Monday. This video I shot Sunday evening the day before the iconic archway or hole in the rock at Long Island collapsed.I noticed the hole partially blocked by fallen rock so I zoomed in for a closer look. It has appeared in countless photographs taken by tourists and locals alike. I am saddened to see it gone as it was one of my favorite places to visit here in Nova Scotia.
