Tidal Bore & Five Islands Provincial Park, (Free Camping in Nova Scotia) (172)
Lower Truro's tidal bore was interesting and the visitor center staff was very knowledgeable.
If you would like to know the tidal bore schedule, check it out here:
There is a lot of parking and a clean, modern bathroom. The parking lot can accommodate larger RVs. We parked here for a couple of hours and had lunch after watching the wave come in.
Five Islands Provincial Park:
We really enjoyed hiking to Old Wife. It was a quick and easy hike with just a tad of a climb. Be careful though, the rocks are very slippery when wet.
Besides the beautiful view, the hike is pet friendly. If we had more time, we would definitely have explored more of the hikes in this park. You can also camp here or dry camp nearby and make use of their dump station. The dump station cost $6 when we were here.

Five Islands Provincial Park
The Bay of Fundy encompasses a large portion of two Canadian provinces; Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Meanwhile, the north shore of Nova Scotia sees fewer tourists, thus the lack of crowds we noticed at Five Islands Provincial Park.
The park has five islands, all of which are engulfed by water on high tide and surrounded by muddy flats on low tide, a testament to the Bay of Fundy's massive tides. This day, produced tides between 43-52 feet and here you'll see the dramatic events that take place when the tide changes and the stunning red cliffs that are exposed when the tide recedes. Keep in mind, these are the largest tide swings on the planet and they occur four times a day and take roughly 6 hours and 14 minutes to complete the cycle from high to low.

Five Islands Provincial Park - 2011 Geocaching
Spent a few hours at five islands provincial park in nova scotia to place the geocache for the 2nd series of geocaches within the park system.
The park is also host to the launch event on jun 18 2011. There are a few other caches in the area, so the day should be a good one for the community who haven't been to this area of nova scotia before.
The trails are nice, but some area are overgrown and numerous fallen tress lay across the trail. This isn't a big concern, but in the majority of trails within provincial control, you don't usually see this.
Trail markers are not totally clear, in fact we got lost and followed an old trail that eventually ended at the main service road, but was overgrown and clearly not used anymore. We followed this trail since it was the wider and seemed to be the most used than the actual trail.
Keep your pets on leash here. The park hugs along the cliffs and it is dangerous for pets to venture out.

Five Islands Provincial Park
This park has a spectacular beach, where people come in to dig clams, plus a few hiking trails (which were closed when I was there due to a lack of rain & threats of forest fires). The red rock & granite join at one point making the view of the cliffs aww-inspiring.

Moose Island at Five Islands Provincial Park, NS
Scott and I attempted to cross to Moose Island to camp overnight. We missed the lowest tides by about a week due to bad weather The water was too deep for our liking especially since we had no experience making the crossing or where to do it. After speaking to the campers coming back from the island we found out you can easily get across at the lowest tides or even at this tide level if you know where to go and don't mind getting wet.

Five Islands on Two Wheels
Nope not Hawaii. I Took the Versys for a mid August jaunt through the Five islands Provincial Park. More so for the paved access road leading in then any other reason.Located about 20 km outside Parrsboro NS with shoreline overlooking the Bay of Fundy it's surprisingly popular in the summer months.

Five Islands’ Landmark Natural Arch Collapses
The province has lost an exquisite landmark. One of the most attractive natural landmarks of Long Island, the sea arch in Minas Basin, Nova Scotia, often referred to as the The Eye has been reduced to rubble after it collapsed overnight on Monday. This video I shot Sunday evening the day before the iconic archway or hole in the rock at Long Island collapsed.I noticed the hole partially blocked by fallen rock so I zoomed in for a closer look. It has appeared in countless photographs taken by tourists and locals alike. I am saddened to see it gone as it was one of my favorite places to visit here in Nova Scotia. See article below for more info:

A fun day adventure at Five Islands Provincial Park in NS. We had a great time exploring the ocean floor. You can walk to the island but be careful of the tide coming in...Mud flats are dirty...big shock I know.

Hiking at the Hidden Falls in Five Islands, Nova Scotia
Tara had a tip to try and find the illustrious Hidden Falls on the Glooscap Trail. Meeting up with her trail guide, Tara discovers some of Five Islands hidden gems that are only known by the locals. They take in the nature and wildlife while coming across amazing landscape, waterfalls and rock formations.
With no maps in hand, Tara learns quickly that she can just hop in a car and drive to truly escape to the beauty of the east coast.
