Flaajokull glacier Iceland - tongue of the Vatnajokull
Glacier Flaajokull ( Fláajökull ) is one of the many branches ( tongues ) of the largest in terms of volume of the glacier in Europe - Vatnajokull. It is located in Vatnajokull National Park, created in 2008, following the merger of parks Skaftafell and Jokulsargljufur. The park is also a caldera volcano Askja and six other active volcanoes. The park covers 12% of the country of which he glacier with a volume of 8100 km2, is about 8%.
According to the Guinness Book of Records glacier Batnajokull broke the record when it comes on the longest line of sight - in good weather conditions is viewed from the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands - Slættaratindur (from a distance of over 550 kilometers).
The glacier Vatnajokull you can get many other languages, but it has just sliding glacier Flaajokull is one of the best places to start climbing. For this place takes off a lot of trekking to the ice caves hidden in the glacier.
For the glacier leads several hiking trails. Turning the ring road No. 1 in a gravel road located between farms Lambhus Cottages and Holmur (both offer accommodation) you will reach the parking lot on the river Holmes. Built in 2014 footbridge over the river allows you to quickly and as easily reach the glacier.
Navigating without a guide on the glacier is extremely dangerous. Finding the cave on your own or hike on the glacier without proper equipment, can be fatal. Best to use the services of one of the many companies offering tours into the glacier.
Glacier Flaajokull plays a key role in shaping the landscape. Over the last century, retreated inland about two kilometers.

Hoffellsjökull Glacier - Landscape Photography in Iceland
Photographing Iceland part 2 - Hoffellsjökull Glacier: When planning our photography trip to Iceland, we aimed to visit a few glaciers with a view to trying some abstract photography. The Vatnajokull ice cap in south east Iceland is the largest of Iceland’s glaciers, covering around 9% of the country, and a number of outlet glaciers spill out from its main ice cap towards the south coast. Hofellsjokull is one of these outlet glaciers, and was only a short drive from where we were staying in Hofn so we decided to head up there one evening to see what we could photograph.

Svinafellsjokull Glacier - Iceland , Flying drone above Vatnajokull park
Glacier Svinafellsjokull can be reached by car or go for a light and pleasant walk among the lupine field stretching purple ribbon. The path starts just behind the hotel Skaftafell Oraerfi.
Svinafellsjokull glacier is very cracked due to the ubiquitous greenhouse effect, at the same time hides many caves. For lovers of climbing an ideal place to explore.
Here Christopger Nolan's with a camera crew filmed a scene for the film Interstellar as a planet potentially habitable. At this point the scene was shot also for the second season of Game of Thrones - recounting the fate of John Snow'a behind the wall.
Many tourists are attracted by the opportunity to see first of all the three languages of the ice in the immediate vicinity. The most popular - Skaftafellsjokull can reach the trail starting right at Skaftefell Visitors Center. The road is well prepared, but it ends with a few dozen meters in front of the glacier, near the lake, which every year due to the retreat of the glacier grows.

Glacier Hike in Iceland
Always looking for the next adventure, I used turning 40 this summer as an excuse to get some friends together and embark on a challenge to beat all challenges as we climbed up/walked on a stunning glacier in Iceland.
What a phenomenal experience and so chilling to hear about the rate of which these glaciers are disappearing.
This was 100% an example of living bigger for all of us, as it was a tough hike with some real scary moments.
I will never forget this trip.

A drone has captured breath-taking footage of a glacier in Iceland.
Italian photographer Stefano Tiozzo, 33, filmed a series of unique aerial images of the Vatnajökull glacier throughout February 2019,.
It is the largest ice cap in Europe by volume and has a large core measuring almost a kilometre (0.6 miles) in thickness.
The glacier also displays several ‘tongues’ - parts where the ice stretches from the core into the Icelandic tundra.

Iceland Ice Cave Hiking With Glacier Trips
Iceland Hiking for Ice Caves with the Estate-Productions crew.
On our trip to Iceland in February of 2016 we met the coolest tour guide in the land: Sindri of Glacier Trips. He was the most laid back guy. He had started his tour company about a year ago so we offered to make him a video of one of his guided trips to the ice cave on the Vatnajokull Glacier (sp?). It was some rough conditions after the rain had caused the few feet of snow on the Glacier to turn to mush, and it took a call to a local farmer to get the old polar bear as Sindri called it out to the hiking spot. I've never seen such aggressive snow driving! In the end it was entirely worth the struggle to get in and out of the Glacier. The ice cave and sunset were breathtaking see for yourself!
