Norway / Noorwegen: Flåm Railway - Flåmsbana
The Flåm Railway, which passes through the beautiful, narrow Flåm valley, is regarded as a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering. The only thing lacking when the railway line between Oslo and Bergen was opened in 1909, was a branch line to the Sognefjord. In order to assure a transport route to the fjord, work was begun on the Flåm Railway in 1923. It was to take 20 years to complete.

Flam, Norwegian Fjords Cruise
Visit to Flam June 5, 2013 at a Vision of the Seas Cruise from Copenhagen.
Flam is a village at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord.
The village is located in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway.
The village is located along the E16 highway, about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southwest of Aurlandsvangen, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of Undredal, and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) east of Gudvangen (through the Gudvanga Tunnel).
The village of Flåm is a popular tourist destination and has been so since the late 19th century. It currently receives almost 450,000 visitors a year. Most come to enjoy the scenic 20-kilometre (12 mi) Flam railway (Norwegian: Flamsbana) between Flam and Myrdal, one of the steepest railway tracks at 1 in 18 (not counting rack railways) in the world. There are also a few spirals.
A former rail station building in Flam now houses a museum dedicated to the Flam railway.
The harbour of Flam receives some 131 cruise ships per year.
The Rallarvegen road between Flam and Finse is popular with bicycle tourists. See also my video from Flam Railway Ride

Flåmsbana / Flam Railway - Amazing Norwegian Mountain Railway
The Flåm Railway is regarded as a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering. The railway between Flåm and Myrdal is one of the world's steepest railway lines on normal gauge. The gradient is 55/1000 on almost 80% of the line, i.e. a gradient of one in eighteen. The twisting tunnels that spiral in and out of the mountain are manifestations of the most daring and skilful engineering in Norwegian railway history.
An afternoon at Flåm
A busy afternoon at Flåm in Norway on 16th June 2015. A cruise ship is in port and tourists are milling about the station, the shops and the railway museum. NSB Class 18 Bo-Bo 15kv electric locos are in charge of train services on the Flåm Railway to Myrdal. The sun is out but there's a chilly breeze from the north.
Berekvam Station - Flam Railway, Norway
Berekvam Railway Station has the only section of double track on the Flam Railway (Flamsbana) and all trains pass here.

Lom, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway
Footage from a visit earlier this summer to the town Lom in Gudbrandsdalen in central Norway. We were lucky weather-wise. :-) One of the things you see in the video is Lom stave church, but I'm sorry to say only the outside ... they don't allow photography or video inside. So I filmed a few postcards with pictures from the interior, to make up for it. :-)

The video is from the period when we where two guys that built up Flaam Railway Museum. We started Flaam Railway Museum / Flaam Model Railway Centre in 1994 - back then everything old was leaving and few were interested in history. This video, along with those already published, were sold as souvenirs in the museum shop. I sold the museum in 2015 to Aurland Ressursutvikling / Flaam Development.
The tour takes you from winter at Myrdal to springtime in Flaam. Have a pleasant trip.

Part of old narrow gauge Urskog - Høland railway, the Teritten (from latin Tertier, 3rd level, line) is run by enthusiasts & preservers every sunday in summer. Video shot 20020709. Though not an Arctic Train, Tertitten is worthy of a proper video. More video, photographs, maps at
