Peterborough - England
Peterborough is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, England, with a population of 202,110 in 2017. Historically part of Northamptonshire, it is 122 km north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea 48 km to the north-east. The railway station is an important stop on the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh.
The local topography is flat, and in some places the land lies below sea level, for example in parts of the Fens to the east of Peterborough. Human settlement in the area began before the Bronze Age, as can be seen at the Flag Fen archaeological site to the east of the current city centre, also with evidence of Roman occupation. The Anglo-Saxon period saw the establishment of a monastery, Medeshamstede, which later became Peterborough Cathedral.
The population grew rapidly after the railways arrived in the 19th century, and Peterborough became an industrial centre, particularly known for its brick manufacture. After the Second World War, growth was limited until designation as a New Town in the 1960s. Housing and population are expanding and a £1 billion regeneration of the city centre and immediately surrounding area is under way. Industrial employment has fallen since then, a significant proportion of new jobs being in financial services and distribution.

The story so far...
Stone age people way of life Flag Fen
The discoveries of Flag Fen in Peterborough UK show us that stone age people lived there for millenia. This is a glimpse into what their world would have looked like in 6,000 years ago.
See how the local people lived back then. A short tour of this interesting field school and important archaeological site where many fascinating artifacts have been discovered and neolithic (stone age) buildings have been reconstructed.
Re enactors made the place come back to life to show us the stone age peoples way of life.
Stone age people lived in Flag Fen all those years ago just outside of present day Peterborough in Middle England UK.
You may be surprised at just how colourful their clothing was and the technology they had to make such clothing. They ate a wide variety of food and drink that they had access too.
The Fens (swampy marshes) were teaming with fish and ells and they would have made good use of this resource.
The boats at the end of the video were found buried in the oxygen depleted mud at Must Farm and have been carbon dated which shows that they are over 250 years older than previously thought. About 4,500 years.
The boats are in great condition considering their great age.
