Big Mango from Barbados - Review
I got this mango in Barbados. They told me what it was called, but I can't remember the name. The mango is green and it looks similar to the big mangoes that you can find in big supermarkets in Canada. But when you bite into it, the taste is different.
Most of the common commercial varieties of mangoes that we get in Canada are grown in Mexico. But this mango had a taste that was more reminiscent of the Caribbean varieties of mangoes that are sold in specialty Caribbean supermarkets in Toronto. It tastes a little bit like the small round spice mango from the Caribbean, but without the strong spicy flavour. It tastes a bit like the East Indian mango variety from the Caribbean as well, but it's sweeter. The taste reminds me the most of the sweet Julie mango, but, in addition to sweetness, the Julie has another kind of flavour that I don't really like. This mango doesn't have that other unpleasant flavour.
This big mango also doesn't have the stringyness that you find in a some of the Caribbean mango varieties. Instead, its flesh is all edible, like the commercial varieties sold in Canada. The flesh is soft in texture, delicate, and very juicy- if you bite or cut into it, it will be hard not to spill juice everywhere. Better have some napkins ready.
They told me that the mango is mostly flesh, with a small, flat seed. And they weren't lying. As you can see, the seed is relatively small and flat in comparison to the big size of the mango.
Overall, this is one of the better mangoes I've eaten. I'd give it an 8/10. I had another variety in Barbados that was better (a smaller yellow one, no idea what the name was), and a mango from Thailand was the best variety I've ever tasted.

A hawker centre/coffee shop tucked in the midst of Chinatown. Tried the Asian Delight Laksa from Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa (£4/$8 SGD) and the curry chicken noodles from Ah Heng Chicken Curry Bee Hoon Mee - both are Michelin recommended and absolute must trys!

A very popular place for soya beancurd dessert - it comes with different flavours but I went with the original. This was a delight! I always love eating this in HK but this one is super light, melts in your mouth and wonderfully refreshing during a hot day!

A local hawker centre/coffee shop with several stalls serving local Singaporean food! I tried the fish head curry and prawn paste chicken. Both were spectacular! Was only full of locals here too.

I believe this is open 24 hours and you can drink a 2 litre tea tower! Best place to come to for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and supper! I tried the tissue prata with chocolate and double egg prata with chicken and fish curry on the side :)
