2019-04 BLACKPOOL DAY 2 - FLEETWOOD AND THE MARKET | TRAVEL AND EVENTS
Today, filmed on the DJI Osmo Pocket (affiliate link below), we took the tram to Fleetwood where we always visit the market. This time, after the market, we walked back into town, where Christine had seen various travel shops, then went back into Blackpool to the HoundsHill Shopping Centre for a late lunch. We walked up Central Pier and took a tram to Starr Gate, coming back to South Pier to walk that too. Then we went to The Albert and The Lion for dinner - extremely noisy!! Good test for my hearing aids in crowds! I measure 106dB in the matching app on my phone!

Fleetwood Winter Ferry.
The Fleetwood Wyre Ferry Service has been in operation since 1941, taking passengers over the Wyre Esturary to the small village of Knott End On Sea. The service is now operated by Wyre Marine Services. Also in the video are views of Fleetwood and the new Blackpool trams that arrived in Fleetwood during 2012. The town once had one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK, employing over 9,000 workers, with trawlers working as far as the the Iceland fishing grounds with men staying at sea for weeks on end.
To day the docks are mostly full of pleasure craft along with a shopping centre, now called Freeport. Visit the towns Museum (Closed winter) in Queens Terrace opposite the River Wyre a short walk from the Fleetwood Ferry.there you will find a wonderful display of the towns past.history as a Fishing and Ferry port. also visit the Fleetwood Market just round the corner from the Museum.( open all year) .The old Fleetwood Railway Station used to be close to the Ferry in Queens Terrace (.Check opening times at Wyre Council website.) Information as at Jan 2013.
Fleetwood Seafront - The Esplanade
The seafront at The Esplanade at Fleetwood is the most pretty spot. It's the old Victorian area of town where our ancestors built the North Euston Hotel, the Lighthouses and many of their buildings which first created the seaside town of Fleetwood. Have a look at the promenade and across the sea towards Heysham, the Lakes and closer by at the other side of the River Wyre, Knott End.
Drive along Fleetwood Seafront from Sea Cadets to the Museum
Fleetwood seafront is a changing coastline - come for a drive from the Sea Cadets base not far from Rossall Point past the boating lakes, the Mount and Marine Hall.
One of Fleetwood's oldest building, the North Euston Hotel, stands proud opposite the Lower Lighthouse, and beyond that is the RNLI lifeboat station and seafront cafes and amusements - next to the tram lines which connect the Port to Cleveleys and Blackpool.
A little further along the coast road you pass even more period buildings to arrive at our final destination on this clip of Fleetwood Museum - originally built as the Customs House in the early 1800's.
