HMS Seahawk Freedom of Helston Parade 2014
Thanks for watching!
I'd love you to comment, 'thumbs-up' and subscribe!
On Wednesday 11th June 2014, Royal Navy personnel from RNAS Culdrose exercised their privilege to march through the streets of Helston with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing and colours flying.
HMS Seahawk was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Helston in 1958.
The tradition of conferring freedom of a Town or City dates from when fortress walls were necessary to protect its inhabitants from outlaw bands and the attacks of feudal lords. Bodies of armed men were refused entry into the town unless the citizens were confident that they meant no harm.
To be granted freedom of a Town or City is the greatest honour that can be bestowed on a unit within the Armed Forces.

Bob emigrated to New Zealand at the age of nine along with his parents, brothers and sisters.
Robert James Bob Fitzsimmons was a British professional boxer who made boxing history as the sport's first three-division world champion. Nicknamed Ruby Robert and The Freckled Wonder, he took pride in his lack of scars. He was known for his pure fighting skills due to dislike of training for fights, which would ultimately cost him at times in his career.

1966: Falmouth, street scenes and a boat trip
Here we see Falmouth as it was over 50 years ago in 1966. The children are on their way to school, running down the steep steps of the town's alleys. There are steam ships in the port. On a boat trip out in the estuary, we see tugs pulling a ship out of port on its way overseas.

George Baker In The Floral Dance (1932)
Full story title reads: And now for a rollicking song from George Baker the well-known Baritone of Radio, Gramophone and Concert renown in The Floral Dance.
M/S of George Baker at the piano. He plays along as he sings The Floral Dance. Various views of him at the piano. He is in a set representing a drawing room. There are a few flowers on display.
Intercut with George is a shot of a marching band leading a parade (possibly a May Day parade). Girls dressed in white dance along. Another dancing group is seen - this time adults. The men wear top hat and tails, the ladies tea dresses and cloche hats. They walk along a pathway and the girls do a twirl. High angle shots of couples and children dancing during their parades.
This may possibly be the Floral Dance of the title which according to the song is a Cornish tradition. Perhaps the dancing sections were filmed in Cornwall.
I like Terry Wogan's version better.
