Paragliding Crash Millau / France 24.8.2019 - walked away unharmed!
After about 9 years of flying without any major accident, this was my first accident. However, I walked away unharmed! Just while getting my glider out of the trees, I got one scratch with a little (!) blood.
Given that this crash looked horrible, I can say I had the best of luck. Landed on the protection in the bushes, and I think that saved me. After the landing, I did not even have a single scratch on the skin!
The air was quite calm during the 10 minutes before (was flying since about 20 minutes and started recording about a minute before the crash). I honestly do not know what exactly happened. Unfortunately, you cannot really see the glider nor my hands in the interesting moments.
Best theory so far is that there was a short and very strong downwind on the glider that made it stall. +1 for this theory is that before the calm phase it was very rough in the air, and people having seen me crash said the wind deformed in a way that looked like a stall, and I seem to fall backwards, as it happens when you stall the wing manually.
