Kiritanpo Nabe Recipe (Chicken Hot Pot with Pounded Rice in Akita Prefecture) | Cooking with Dog
Kiritanpo Nabe is a local hot pot dish in Akita Prefecture. The Kiritanpo soaked in the broth is really delicious!
How to Make Kiritanpo Nabe
(serves 2)
- Chicken Broth -
6 Chicken Wings
600ml Water (2.54 cups)
3 tbsp Sake
1 tsp Chicken Stock Powder
Green part of a Long Green Onion
20g Ginger Root, crushed
Soy Sauce, 10% of the broth
Mirin, 10% of the broth
200g Chicken Thigh, cut into bite-size pieces (7.1 oz)
15cm Burdock Root (5.9)
50g Maitake Mushrooms (1.8 oz)
50g Shimeji Mushrooms (1.8 oz)
50g Enoki Mushrooms (1.8 oz)
White part of a Long Green Onion, sliced diagonally
½ bundle of Seri, a type of Japanese parsley or substitute: Watercress, cut into 5cm/2 pieces
80g Shirataki Noodles, parboiled (2.8 oz)
2 pieces of Kiritanpo
3 pieces of Damako-mochi
Shichimi Chili Powder, optional

Akita snow trip - we went to Serra da Estrela by Yuki the Akita Inu
On 3rd of April we did a snow trip to Serra da Estrela (Star Mountains). This is the first time that she feels the snow and plays on it ;)

Japan's Ice Village
We're traveling to about half of Japan's prefectures this year thanks to Odigo! You can follow our trips and plan your own on their website:
Daily vlogs of our trips and overall prefecture tours are uploaded to their channel:
This is the Ice Village at Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan in central Hokkaido ( It takes quite a bit of traveling to get there, but once you're in the city the local buses will pick you from the train stations and take you to the lake for free during the ice village season! (Make sure to talk to the hotel front desk to get a free ticket for the bus on the return ride!) The village is free to walk through but all the activities (drinks, ice carving, snowmobile, staying the night in an igloo, onsen, etc) cost money! The drinks were 500 yen each (~$5), and getting it in an ice glass was an additional 500 yen. Supposedly they may have dog sledding at some point, too!?
We were a little early because they hadn't finished building the chapel or the igloos yet, but it was still really cool to see the ice cafe! You can also eat lunch at a restaurant in the hotel, although Jun and I didn't enjoy our meal very much (ymmv).
We haven't added all our Hokkaido destinations to their website yet, but once we do we'll make our Hokkaido trip and share it!

Is it truth that Akitas do not play fetch? Or is just a myth? Well, I hope that this video, they say Akitas don´t play fetch, proves that this statement is wrong :) The Akita inu breed do play fetch!

Test d'un Akita Inu réactif envers ses congénères
Ce jeune mâle de 16 mois est réactif envers ses congénères (surtout les mâles) quand il est en laisse.
Il est donc mis en présence de ma chienne, qui m'aide a évaluer les capacités sociales des chiens. Pour cela, il faut:
1) un environnement sécurisé mais pas confiné
2) pas de chien tenu en laisse qui est un déclencheur d'agressions
3) des longes fines pour intervenir en cas de pépin
4) éventuellement des muselières selon les cas
5) Une chienne stable et qui communique bien
6) des maitres qui vous font confiance et n'interviennent pas.
Au final, cet Akita est plutot joueur et demandeur, même s'il est un peu rustre dans sa communication... mais bon.. c'est un ado!!
Travail a poursuivre avec d'autres chiens, mâles cette fois. La castration est discutée: l' agression intraspécifiques entre mâles est une bonne indication, surtout si les troubles évoluent depuis peu de temps.
